The second single from Warren G’s latest album “In The Mid-Night Hour” features long time friend and collaborator Nate Dogg, the track is called “I Need A Light” and in its first two days of release on MySpace.com it racked up 28,000 plays and rocketed to #44 on the Billboard charts.
The track is one of the smoothest on the new album and is perfectly accompanied by the tones of Nate Dogg, speaking on the song Warren G commented: “ﾑI Need a Lightﾒ is a song to sit back and listen to if you are stressinﾒ over something. Listen to the hook and it makes you feel good. As far as the lyrics in the song, Iﾒm talking about growing up in Long Beach, some of the s*#! I went through, everything from what I saw as a kid up until now. We got to do it.”
Nate Dogg also took time to break down his thoughts on the record: “This song is deep ﾑcuz all of our other songs are about regulating on someone or having fun, talking ﾑbout the game. Itﾒs about when you are going through s*#!, you got people who smoke just to relax themselves. Like, I need a light man, there is so much going on in my life that I just need to relax. Or dammit, go get me a bottle or something ﾑcuz I need a drink. Thereﾒs just so much stress going off, let me relax myself. Thatﾒs where I was going with the song. Thatﾒs where itﾒs at.”
The music video for “I Need A Light” takes on a late 1940’s post second world war period feel with contemporary flair and is the brainchild of director Paul Hunter; he explains the concept: “The overall tone of the video shows the classic side of Warren ﾖ how he built his empire from the streets of Long Beach and expanded it to the world. He is showing everyone that we can have a good time, look good and dress well. Itﾒs all about class and treating people right. Itﾒs really about the classy style of hip-hop.”
