Anacron Drops 2 Stevie Wonder “Tribute” Records

0

Last year Anacron was busy on Dubcnn with a whole host of new projects and some great new music!

During the year he dropped records including  So West Coast (Anacron’s Facelifted RMX) featuring MDA & Z-Man over a DJ Quik instrumental, as well as Twilight Zone (Anacron’s Facelifted RMX) with Kokane.

In October Anacron was back with a new single – an official cover that saw him tackle The Virgins breakout hit “Rich Girls” as well as taking it back to the old-school by including a B-Side called  “Schwing” – which he then remixed with a Who’s Who (reference to Anacron’s classic 2001 underground album intended) of America’s current indie rap scene; boasting appearances by Oakland’s Tajai of Souls of Mischief / Hieroglyphics, Chicago’s Qwazaar of Typical Cats, Brooklyn’s Illspokinn of Freestyle Mondays NYC, and St. Louis’ Firewater Redstarr of Ridah Movement.

Earlier this month Anacron dropped a couple of records in honor of Stevie Wonder’s birthday last week. The two Stevie-inspired songs include a downtempo ballad built around “If It’s Magic”, and an uptempo rap built around “Fingertips Part 1”.

Fresh from the studio, “Magick” is a sultry ode to the mysterious power behind true love, built from scratch around an element of Stevie Wonder’s “If It’s Magic”. Anacron flexes his his musician’s muscles on every aspect of the ballad, from vocals to instrumentation and programming to engineering. This track is for the lover in you, but heavy enough on the bass for a Sunday cruise up the avenue.

True-Blue AnaManiacs may recognize “Fingerwar” from more than a couple of instances. Occasionally used as an intro for Anacron’s live concert performances, the track melds his epic “War” verse (from the 2006 album AtypicalCD) with Stevie Wonder’s classic recording, “Fingertips Part 1.” When infused, the result is a high-energy smasher with complex rapid-fire lyricism and a pulsing drum loop – perfect for even the most critical underground rap listener.
