Another week has passed, and it's about time for this week's Weekend Audio feature on dubcnn! We've got a couple gems for ya'll this week, ranging from Bishop Lamont and LL Cool J's upcoming projects to Problem's new artist Hood Rich and Canadian producers Haze Ent who connected with TQ, Crooked I and B-Legit amongst others for a collabo.

The first joint of the day is a Bishop Lamont solo track off Bishop's "The Confessional" mixtape with DJ Whoo Kid dropping any minute. Tha Bizness laced Bishop with a banger, download "Get Off My D-ck" below:

The track is called "Money, Cash, Cars", check it out below:

Let's get to a potential album track off LL Cool J's upcoming long player "Exit 13". A new track has leaked, this time on a more mellow tip, featuring Trey Songz called "Girl If I". This is another Tha Bizness production, Dow Jones & J-Hen have really been getting it in 2008!

news J-Ro At Cultura Urbana Festival And Unleashes His New Single - May 31, 2008 By : Yash

J-Ro of The Liks just contacted Dubcnn so we could let the fans know that he will be performing at Europe's biggest Hip-Hop festival in Madrid, Spain. J-Ro goes on stage tonight at 23:30 infront of over 20 000 fans.

Yesterday thousands of fans enjoyed performances by Talib Kweli and EPMD. The Game was also supposed to perform but he couldn't make it, so J-Ro will be headlining the festival; performing all of his old hits as well as new bangers from his upcoming album. You can also catch Immortal Teqnique as the opening act.

That's not all J-Ro wanted us to premiere his first single "Gravity" from his upcoming album. Please believe that it's a huge banger and we are proud to bring you this exclusive world premiere.

In the song J-Ro sets the record straight regarding his move to Europe from Cali and has a few words for the haters. "Everybody wanna know why I moved overseas, everybody wanna know if I'm still making cheese, everybody wanna know if I'm still with The Liks, everybody wanna know if I got alot of chicks..well fool do I eat did I learn another language, how is the weather? is living there dangerous?....." he raps over a up tempo piano beat which can best be described as a Dr Dre production but in reality is produced by a European producer.

Make sure you download the song below and bang it in your rides this summer:

J-Ro - Gravity

If you live in Spain please support Hip-Hop by attending the festival and don't forget to add J-Ro on myspace by clicking here.

news N*E*R*D release "Seeing Sounds" June 10th - May 30, 2008 By : JustinL

N*E*R*D* is set to release Seeing Sounds, their third album on June 10th, 2008. You already know the story of the Neptunes, Grammy Award winning producers and songwriters Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, but the N*E*R*D* trio consists of Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo, and longtime friend and creative wunderkind, Shae Haley. The album is a blistering mash-up of booming hip-hop beats and rollercoastering rock riffs, rumbling crunk rhythms and scintillating soul music. Whereas their first album, In Search Of..., was an imaginative, exploration of identities, and their second album, Fly Or Die, sought out the range of genres and sounds that have influenced the group, Seeing Sounds grinds everything together, evoking a sound that is un-tethered by preconceptions and convention. It is also an album that amplifies the style and attitudes that have made Pharrell, Chad and Shae transcendent cultural icons.

"The Neptunes is what we do, but N*E*R*D* is who we are. It's our life," says Pharrell. The three of them together combine for uninhibited explorations of sounds, emotions and truth, adhering to no agenda, subscribing to no rules. N*E*R*D* is the way they live their life, the way they see the world.

Before we get to the good news (an in-depth dubcnn interview with Xzibit), I have some very sad news to break first. For those who didn't know, Xzibit became a father for the second time 11 days ago. His son, Xavier Kingston Joiner, was born prematurly and his lungs weren't strong enough to handle the oxygen. Xavier just passed away earlier this morning (May 26th) at 3:30 AM.

The dubcnn staff would like to express our condolences and send our prayers to Xzibit and his family. I cannot imagine what the man must be going through right now. Keep your head up X.

Shortly before this happened, dubcnn had the great opportunity to sit down with Mr. X to the Z for an in-depth 3-Part interview we like to call "The Life & Times Of Xzibit". In Part 1, we discuss his childhood, why he became a rapper, how he hooked up with the Likwit Crew, the L.A. scene of the early 90's and what it was like when he came out with "Paparazzi".

We then talk about 2Pac, Xzibit's path until he met Dr. Dre, the experience of being on the Up In Smoke tour, the "Restless" album and the dominance of the West Coast during that period in time. Read or listen to this exclusive interview below:

Be on the look out for Part 2 of this interview, where we talk about Snoop Dogg's beef with X, his career after Restless, "Pimp My Ride", forming and leaving Strong Arm Steady and much more.

Let's start it off with a San Quinn single, off Quinn's long awaited solo album "From A Boy To A Man", which is set to drop in August through SMC Records. Quinn has been one of the leading voices of the Bay Area for years and delivers a heater once again with his new single "They're All Waiting On Me":

San Quinn - They're All Waiting On Me

Next is a new single by Self Scientific, the Hip-Hop duo consisting of Aftermath's super producer DJ Khalil and Los Angeles rhymer Chace Infinite. news New Exclusives From 40 Glocc & Zoo Life Ent [Audio] - May 23, 2008 By : Nima

We're right back at you with some new music from 40 Glocc and his Zoo Life Ent crew. While his summer single "Strip Down" is buzzing, he's making sure to feed the streets with some underground sh-t, and it's controversial as always.

We've got a new freestyle called "Get It Right", where 40 Glocc raps over Mike Jones' "My 6-4" beat and adresses West Coast artists. "I'm talkin' about all the niggas that's running around and flooding ya'll site [dubcnn] with they bullshit music and not makin' moves no where else", he says about the track.

He also specifically adresses artists from the Inland Empire (I.E.). "And to the niggas runnin' around saying I.E.: if they knew the history, they'd know it's a gangbang term and unless you a real one and have put in work around "the I.E.", you should keep it out ya mouth. Because when real niggas from the I.E. run into you, you're going to have to explain yourself thoroughly. So I'm letting everybody know before they mistake I.E. for these clown ass non affiliated rap cats, trying to make a career acting like they represent to the fullest. Get out the I.E. lane, because you liable to get hit in traffic."

Download "Get It Right" below:

40 Glocc - Get It Right (Freestyle)

We also have a "Zoo Life Freestyle" for ya'll showcasing 40 Glocc's Zoo Life Ent family: Tip Toe (Low Lifes), Village Boo and Yacc are featured on the track alongside 40, download it below:

news Damizza Runs For "West Coast President" - May 22, 2008 By : Eddie Gurrola

This June, multi-platinum rapper/producer Damizza will make a grand entrance back into the game with a new compilation presented by DJ Ill Will entitled "The West Coast President: Government In Exile." The swagger-filled project will be stuffed to excess with feel-good, star-studded records, exhibiting a collection of Damizza's biggest hits with the likes of Westside Connection, Kurupt, & Fat Joe, as well as never-before-heard music & mixes featuring Mariah Carey, Nate Dogg, & Fabolous.

Brand new collaborations with current protégés Guilty & "Jedi" Jared Moore will be sprinkled in to give the fans a taste of what they can expect from Damizza's Baby Ree Records in the future. "I wanted to give the people a nice compilation for the summertime that they can vibe to," says Damizza. "I'm really excited to team up with Ill Will, because he has a great sense of how to push records out here on the West Coast."

Best known for his work with younger artists like Hot Dollar, Ray J, & Jay Rock, DJ Ill Will shares Mizza's enthusiasm about this mixtape. “The foundation of the mixtape game, in my eyes, is usually based on promoting the younger artists and creating an outlet for them. What’s appealing about this project to me is that we’re reaching back into the vault & reminding people about the legendary accomplishments that Damizza has made, but we’re incorporating brand new music as well to keep it fresh for longtime fans.”

"If you're not familiar with Damizza's work as an artist or his involvement in the music industry, this project will serve as a great introduction," states executive producer Eddie Gurrola. "Damizza has been a part of most of the major projects in hip-hop since he's been in this business, but he's kept a low profile because he's just so humble about it all."

"The West Coast President: Government In Exile" will be released for free download online this June.

news Exclusive Interview With D12 (The Swifty Mc Vay Feature) - May 19, 2008 By : Rud

Continuing his recent interviews including the Nappy Roots feature and last weeks Todd DiMartino (MTL Records) interview, Jonathan Hay is back today with a brand new interview.

When life suddenly sideswipes us with a heavy blow of unfortunate tragedy, we find ourselves re-evaluating our strength, our endurance. Though we know that there is a season for everything – a time to laugh and a time to mourn – it is the perception that hard emotional times never end that make the pain so unmanageable.

It is in these times, however, that some see the mission as a chance for redemption and others as a chance for escape. It is in these times that soldiers are produced.

Only two short years ago, the members of D12 found themselves on the receiving end of tragedy’s clenched fist, losing both a family member and a friend when Proof was brutally murdered in a Detroit nightclub. The momentum of the blow sent them into a season of hibernation, but as a rap collective who has learned to live their life under the gun, they have regained their strength and are back to reclaim their power.

Swifty McVay explains to Dubcnn how the group has since mended old wounds and united forces with some heavy hometown Detroit emcees, such as Royce Da 5’9”, to deliberate a mixtape that will generate the first show since the death of Proof. Though their pieces may never again add up to a dozen, the Detroit Twelve dust themselves off and return bruised -- but never broken -- showing proof their worth as soldiers. Make way for the Return of the Dirty Dozen.

Exclusive Inteview With D12 (The Swifty Mc Vay Feature) (May 2008)

Drop your feedback on this feature over on our forums now and ensure you check out the weekly blog from Jonathan Hay entitled Haywire.

news The Cool Kids - The Bake Sale - May 19, 2008 By : JustinL

In the packed confines of clubs around their hometown of Chicago and throughout the world The Cool Kids' irresistible, hooky rhymes and club cramming beats seamlessly bridge the old and new schools of hip hop while assuring them a sure-fire path to world-wide attention. In their short amount of time as a duo The Cool Kids have been featured in Rolling Stone, XXL, The Source, Spin, Paper Magazine, CBS News, The New Yorker, The Fader, and on the cover of The Urb - all without a single release to their name!

Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks met on MySpace in 2005 while Chuck was attending Illinois Art Institute in Chicago and Mikey was still in High School. In August 2006, under a year from their formation, the duo began performing at venues and parties around the city. They grabbed the attention of breakout DJs Flosstradamus, who were responsible for a much-hyped monthly dance night at the Town Hall Pub in Chicago. They invited The Cool Kids to appear and word of their energizing performances spread quickly. In March 2007 The Cool Kids joined Flosstradamus and other Chicago artists for a show at SXSW. Following this performance and an appearance at the WMC in Miami with A-Trak, The Cool Kids began grabbing the attention of national media.

After hosting reviews of several of their mp3s, Pitchfork offered The Cool Kids a coveted spot at the 2007 Pitchfork Festival, where they shared the stage with De La Soul and Clipse. Impressed by their talents, DJ Benzi gave the duo space in a track entitled "Getting It" where the two decidedly hold their own pitted against Lil Wayne, one of the most inventive, competitive, and successful MCs in the world. Their songs "Mikey Rocks" and "88" have been featured in the HBO series Entourage and the game NBA Live08, respectively. The video for the debut single "Black Mags." was featured on MTVu's Freshman Five. They concluded 2007 with a 30-day, sold out tour with M.I.A., bringing their tally of performances to over 150 for that year.

Early on The Cool Kids established their own "Creating Art for Kids Everywhere" recordings - the label under which the duo have written, record, and produced all their own music. Initially, the duo planned to release their own album on C.A.K.E. in July 2007. Due to such tremendous success in such a short period of time the release date was pushed back. "We thought we'd only need to press up a thousand CDs at best," said Mikey. "But when we started getting messages from Sweden, Iceland, France and Germany we knew this may be bigger than we can handle at this stage." Last October The Cool Kids signed a deal with Chocolate Industries. The highly anticipated debut EP "The Bake Sale" is expected early Spring 2008 on C.A.K.E. / Chocolate Industries.

news The Game Drops "911 Is A Joke" Video! - May 13, 2008 By : Nima

As announced when we first dropped The Game's latest street smash "911 Is A Joke", his dedication to Sean Bell, The Game also shot a video to the song. Taydoe directed the grimy video, which authentically captures the feeling of the track.

In the video, Game along with Clyde Carson and The CMC have their faces painted in white, reminiscent of the classic "Dead Presidents" movie. This is that rawness, I know ya'll loved the track, now go ahead and check out the "911 Is A Joke" video below:

The Game - 911 Is A Joke (Video)

Incase you missed the track when we dropped it, you can also download it on the video page. The hype for Game's upcoming album "L.A.X." is building, and with this street video and his upcoming official video to "Game's Pain" with Keyshia Cole, Game should be set for another successful LP. We'll keep you in the loop!

news Giant Panda - Electric Laser - May 13, 2008 By : JustinL

Giant Panda has returned! Giant Panda's debut album, Fly School Reunion, dropped in 2005 and was received by unsuspecting ears that caught the raw sounds bursting forth. With their sophomore effort however, Giant Panda has evidently "graduated". Electric Laser is the name of the game and GP plays it well. The production, foremost, is in many ways its predecessor, and yet it isn't. The drums still bang, with snares and kicks dominating the forefront of a large portion of the production. However, the melodies, chops, and loops aren't "traditionally" jazzy or funky (that's not to say they don't have that type of quality, so to speak).

Rather, thick, electro-fused samples are laced deep in the cuts of this record providing a much more futuristic but very present musical landscape. A track such as "Justin Case" is a nice introduction to newcomers (just in case you didn't know) but also an introduction to the style of the album to already established fans of Giant Panda.

The writing on the album is what makes this album standout more prominently for those already acquainted to Giant Panda. Humor (see "CinemaX" and "Do the Robot in Cyberspace") and more serious notes (see "AIM" and "Let It Go") are found all throughout the album, showing a different side of the Panda's fur. Like a caged animal, Giant Panda can rage with speaker pumpin tracks such as "Speakers Pop" and "Speakers Funk". The album was also recorded and mixed on analog tape, giving it extra warmth and harmonic punch. Overall Electric Laser is a step forward for Giant Panda, but still honors it's true school mentality for their original fans.

1. Laser Beam (Scotty's Theme)
2. Justin Case
3. Ready to Fly
4. Speakers Pop
5. AIM
6. Laser Ray
7. Precise Calculator
8. Same Old $#!+
9. CinemaX
10. Pops
11. Let It Go
12. Do The Robot in Cyberspace
13. Speakers Funk

Please go out and support “Electric Laser” which comes out on Tres Records on May 20, 2008. For more information, please visit http://www.myspace.com/giantpanda.

Additionally, Tres Records has also released C.R.A.C. “The Piece Talks” which is in stores now.

news Suge Knight Involved In Hollywood Altercation - May 12, 2008 By : Rud

Dubcnn is not usually a place for gossip and sensationalism, but this piece of news right here we just had to bring you. It looks like Suge Knight was involved in an altercation last night at Shag's club in Hollywood, which ended with him getting laid out on the ground.

TMZ.com reported that Suge had gotten into an argument with a guy apparently over some money issues, when Suge and his people jumped the man. Later on, a car pulled up and Suge was struck with a pole-like object in the back of the head. He was later taken to the hospital where he refused to cooperate with the police.

Next up is a joint off Bay Area rapper Errevelent's album "The Redefinition". We've been dropping tracks from his album for the past few months, and if you're not convinced enough to pick up his album yet, this track right here should change your mind. Errelevent linked up with one of the most talented up and coming rappers, the Primo co-signed Termanology. They knocked out a track called "The Formula", which you can download below:

Last week, we brought you a new Krondon solo track, along with a new Strong Arm Steady freestyle called "Tha Gang". We've recieved another new Strong Arm Steady track this week, this time it's a collaboration with Spliff Star called "Drugs & Money".

This is for those of you who like that drug talk, check it out below:

And last but not least, we have a track by a new female singer that Daz Dillinger has been working with. She goes by the name of Melody Mona Lisa, and we have recieved her single "N Ur Bed", which features Daz himself on a verse. This is a cool feel good summer track, nothing that's going to change your life but definitely worth a couple spins, Daz comes off on his verse. Check it out below:

news Throwback Feature - Mac Mall Interview From 1996 - May 3, 2008 By : Nima

Dubcnn will occasionally offer glimpses into the past with exclusive unreleased interviews from years gone by. Some will be from our extensive "vaults" of material and others will be from published writers - in this case Adisa Banjoko, the author of "Lyrical Swords" Vol. 1 & 2, who's also behind the recent article on Sean Bell which we featured [click here].

In 1996, the Bay Area's Mac Mall was just getting ready to drop "Untouchable". Young Lay had recently been shot, his early mentor DJ Cease was killed in an unrelated incident and life was tough.

But Mall, at 19 years old spoke like an OG about leaving Young Black Brother, about how stressful the streets can be and how the east/west beef ain't that real. Check out the below feature from over a decade ago:

The first verse is dedicated to Spice 1, the second verse to Too Short and in the third verse Nelly impersonates E-40. The chorus is a typical Hyphy hook, and the beat is sure to get the party cracking. Naturally, dubcnn has the song available for you to check out, get it below:

Some of you may have noticed I've been M.I.A. the past week, that's because I recently had surgery done on my back and I've been tied to the bed. I'm slowly but surely getting back into the mix of things and wanted to start it off with an audio update with some of the latest that we have recieved this past week.

Problem, who recently signed a major deal with Universal Republic, released a huge remix to his club banger "I'm Toe Up". The original version was premiered on dubcnn a few months ago, so it's only right we bring you the remix as well. This ain't no regular remix though, Problem cooked up something big.

DJ Quik, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Terrace Martin and DJ Felli Fel join the Compton rapper on the "I'm Toe Up" remix, over a remixed beat courtesy of Terrace Martin. Check it out below, and be on the lookout for major moves coming from Problem in 2008, he's only getting started:

Next up is something new from the Strong Arm Steady gang. Mitchy Slick ain't featured on the following track, but Talib Kweli joins Krondon and Phil Da Agony on the following freestyle track, simply titled "Tha Gang", which you can download below. We also have something new from Portland rapper Cool Nutz, a collaboration with the currently incarcerated Ras Kass. The track is called "Killin' Em" and is set to be featured on Cool Nutz' new album "King Cool Nutz", which is in stores now. Ras Kass is also set to release his upcoming project "Institutionalized 2" while in jail, more news on that soon. Check out "Killin' Em" below, produced by Bosko:

Cool Nutz - Killin' Em (ft. Ras Kass)

Last but not least is a remix to Ice Cube's current smash "It Takes A Nation". A producer by the name of KA threw a new beat on the track, and I thought it came out great and wanted to let ya'll give it a listen as well. Check it out below:
