1122932089 - January 1, 1970 By : The Birthplace of Hip Hop, the Bronx, New York, has produced some of the illest emcees ever, from KRS-One to Big Pun (R.I.P.) Coming from the same vein as the latter is Cuban Link. The 31 year old is finally releasing his Long Awaited solo debut.
He completed his album 24K for Atlantic Records, which featured Ja Rule, M.O.P., Kool G Rap and many more, back in the late 90s. Unfortunately, it was shelved. The album featured the singles "Still Tellin' Lies" and his heartfelt ode to Pun "Flowers For The Dead" with Spanish crooner Domingo.
But now, with M.O.B. Records backing him, Link's album, Chain Reaction is dropping August 18th. The album features The Game, Jadakiss, Syleena Johnson, Mya, Avant and others. His current single, the Club ready Reggaeton cut, "Scandolous" features Don Omar.
For those interested, here's a 9 minute sampler of the album featuring "Chain Reaction," "Tonight's The Night" with Avant, "Comin' Home With Me," "Scandolous" with Don Omar, "Life Goes On" with Syleena Johnson and "Letter To Pun."
Download the Cuban Link - Chain Reaction Album Sampler.
In anticipation of the album's release, Cuban Link just put out his Mixtape, Man On Fire, for free download. We have that here for you, along with the Front and Back Covers. The Mixtape features Triple Seis, Peedi Crakk, FiggaRaw and a special appearance by Baby Pun, son of the fallen legend.

1144772124 - January 1, 1970 By : Compton and West L.A. connect to bring you the final and possibly the hottest show during Rosarito, Mexico's Spring Break concert series. The series, which has already boasted performances from Dancehall top biller Sean Paul, Mack 10, The Game, E-40 & Lil Jon, Lil Eazy E and many more, will come to a close this weekend, with DJ Quik and the next to blow Omar Cruz.
For those in and around the SouthWest area, I suggest heading South this weekend to catch this show. It'll be well worth your money. Not only great performances, but there's sure to be an abundance of women (plenty of dudes for the ladies) as well as no shortage of liquor in sight. As long as you're 18 and up with a valid ID, you're good to go. Hop on those 5 and 15 freeway's drive South to the border, you'll be there in no time. Dubcnn will be in the place alongside the BYI Family so holla at us!

1172655273 - January 1, 1970 By : Little did we know in June 2005, when we were the first outlet to introduce Blunts LLA to the masses, what would be in store for him just two years down the line.
In late 2005 we announced the moniker switch from Blunts LLA to the now familiar Omar Cruz alongside an exclusive dubcnn mixtape download for the acclaimed "Blow: The Final Chapter." We couldn't have put it better when we said; "You know where you heard it first Blunts LLA aka Omar Cruz is going to blow in 06."
With the success of the mixtape Omar Cruz moved into 2006 looking to solidify his position as a contender in the music industry. With that in mind he crafted the DJ Skee collaboration mixtape "The Cruzifixion" to an overwhelming response from fans, new listeners, magazines and most importantly - labels. Within months Omar Cruz had inked a 50/50 deal with BYI/Interscope/Geffen to release his debut album.
That gets us up to the current timeline and the reason for todays update. Omar Cruz has recently completed his long awaited debut album precursor mixtape "2007 B.C. (Before Cruz), hosted by DJ Skee and DJ Big Mike - with the sole purpose to fan the flames of anticpation for his forthcoming debut record "Sign of the Cruz." "2007 [B.C.] includes some of the classic joints that the streets been asking for, as well as a bunch of exclusive songs. It's going to be an understandable segue into my first album. Everything before now was the era before me; it's time I stake my place in the game," explains Cruz.
Cruz is passionate for the game, not merely consumed with his own shine: "People are forgetting the whole purpose of this rap thing. For me, it's about making a name for not only myself, but also Latinos. The 2007 title and cover art reference holy war-- all the beefing and bickering that's going on right now. I'm trying to break stereotypes and put good music out there. One of the reasons album sales are down is that people are making records with only a few singles, and the rest is garbage. And fans are supporting the garbage!"
Dead set against this trend, "2007 B.C." sets off right with lead single "Vatos Locos," other burners include "Armed Robbers" alongside Big Pun, West Coast anthem "Just When" with co-conspirators The Game and 2Pac and the unforgiving "Gun Talk." As much substance as style however, Cruz offers more than a couple of high-profile guest appearances; "B.Y.I. Entertainment's Music Producer 'Rome' and I are actually introducing a new sound in the game, which I'm excited about. It's a vintage Latino soul sound: heavy organs, heavy horns. This is soul street music unlike any other. The tape goes hard for over 20 songs, and with DJ Skee and DJ Big Mike as the hosts, we feel like we have the best from the West and the East."
Among those 20-plus songs is a freestyle by a Los Angelese emcee who won a contest via Omar Cruz's myspace page searching for the hottest 16 spit by a Latin rapper. Despite eventually choosing an LA cat to appear, Cruz was impressed by the scope of the submissions; "The love was from all over: from Canada to New Orleans to Mississippi to Chicago. MySpace is a great way to get feedback and find out what's hot. Also, you can create buzz without needing the machine behind you."
Omar Cruz is part throwback, part firebrand. He laments that making an album is a "lost art in the game," and that each should "should stand alone as a moment in time, as a piece of art." He also promises that despite the effort invested into each of his mixtapes his debut album expected later this year will take things to another level entirely - rest assured that Cruz will come out swinging when his debut hits shelves this summer.
We have the aforementioned lead single from the mixtape "Vatos Locos" for download below, the track can also be heard on Power 106 right now so make sure you request it and support the new release.

In related news look out for Omar Cruz on the Cuervoton tour this summer. Until then you can check out more news and audio over at Cruz' official MySpace page. We will, as ever, be keeping you fully updated on Omar Cruz and his impending debut "Sign Of The Cruz."

1213309136 - January 1, 1970 By : Here is DJ Strong's official statement about the controversy with him bootlegging Bishop Lamont's "The Confessional" mixtape:
"Contrary to what my normal ethic is, in regards to my artists and my mixtapes. There has been a confusion about the latest mixtapes release, with great respect to all concerned, I apologize that this has gotten to such a point and that it has affected alot of people. I am very sorry that this all happened and in my excitement to make this project a big success one miscommunicated mistake was made.
A special apology goes out to Bishop Lamont, i would never do anything out of spite to hurt the very artists we've been wanting to see so successful out here on the west coast for such a long time.
We as the west coast really need to stick together especially now that we are all getting to a point where alot of artists are about to come out; from Game to Glasses Malone to Ice Cube to Omar Cruz and many many others. For us to not deal with this in a better way is really hurting what we have all worked so hard to build for so many years.
[...]
Hip hop is really being attacked from all sides right now from radio stations to public leaders and from the outside, and for each one of us to turn on each other is going to ruin the very thing that keeps us alive: waiting for the next song or the next artist to tell their story. This is in the best interest for the West Coast and hip hop as a whole. We can turn this into a positive thing for the West Coast!" - DJ Strong

1216972051 - January 1, 1970 By : The second video off The Game's upcoming solo album "L.A.X." has just been released. As previously announced, he shot a video to his track "Dope Boys", which features Travis Barker on the drums and was produced by 1500 Or Nothin'.
The Game teamed up with DJ Skee's film company Skee.TV to shoot the video and it came out raw to say the least. It is not likely that we will catch this video on mainstream stations but I know the fans online are gonna eat this up, Game perfecting his mean mug with Travis Barker smashing the drums in back.
The video features cameos from Omar Cruz amongst others, check it out below:
The Game - Dope Boys [Video]
DJ Skee has been doing his thing on the videos, if you haven't seen Kardinal Offishall's latest video "Set It Off" with The Clipse, also produced by Skee.TV, click here to check it out.

While Young Keno has been finishing up "The Stakes is High" (300 Edition)" - which is set to drop in early 2009 and will feature appearances from Jay Rock, Hot Dollar, Ya Boy, Topic, Young De, Guerilla Black, Tyga, Wiz Khalifa, Omar Cruz and more - he has also been putting in work recording music for his debut album.
"This Is Not A Game" is set for release after the mixtape in 2009 and is already shaping up to be an album not to miss. We have the first track to be released off the album entitled "The Things U Do" which features this years most nominated Grammy artist (8 Grammy Nominees) Lil Wayne as well as Murder INC crooner Lloyd.

1085559595 - January 1, 1970 By : Big Hutch a.k.a. Cold 187um, of the Legendary West Coast supergroup, Above The Law returns with his second solo release, "Live From The Ghetto."
Hip-Hop heads especially those west-coast purists last heard from Hutch back in 1999. He released his first solo debut "Executive Decisions" on his independent label, WestWorld Records. A lot has went on in the past five years and just when people thought that he and Above The Law were finished, they creep back and re-invent themselves and the game.
After the release of "Executive Decisions" and ATL’s "Forever Rich Thugs", Hutch received a call from then-incarcerated mogul Suge Knight to run the music production end at Death Row Records. Hutch’s signature G-Funk sound could be found on 2Pac’s "Until The End Of Time", The Dogg Pound’s "The Dogg Pound 2002" Snoop Dogg’s "Dead Man Walkin’", and the Death Row compilation "2 Gangsta For Radio." Despite the success of Death Row’s post 2Pac era, the label and Hutch couldn’t see eye to eye about the direction or release of the Above The Law album, then called "Diary Of A Drug Dealer" says Hutch, "As the owner of WestWorld, I wanted to see ATL in the upper echelon of the business, not just caught up in the mill of things."
"Live From The Ghetto" is not a mere title nor a misnomer, it is the mind state and environment that 187um has always been a part of and it’s evident throughout the album. This path has taken Hutch back to his gritty and grimy foundation as a premier emcee and producer. He had pulled back from his production duties for the past few years, by inviting new up-and-coming producers into the fold. Hutch always felt a need to help those burgeoning talent get immediate exposure. In fact the last two WestWorld releases featured affiliated producers who were inspired and hung around the group long enough to get bit by the G-Funk bug. In 2004, Cold 187um felt that it was time that he got behind the boards again and give the fans those patented gangsta-funk beats behind his well-known thugged out delivery. But never breaking the mold, well known west-coast producer Mark Sparks contributed 4 tracks to the album to add a slightly different, but certified west-coast rhythms that doesn’t stray away from the musical foundation Hutch has created for the album.
Cold 187um decided to remake a classic love song, "Give Me Your Love (Love Song)" performed by none other than the late great Curtis Mayfield. The formula for tackling a noted classic from a classic movie from the blaxploitation era of African American cinema? "Curtis Mayfield is one of my all-time favorite musicians" says Hutch. "The song is classic and you can’t top it, so all I could do is pay homage to him by adding my style to it and telling a similar story that the original is based on. Basically, "Give Me Your Love" is about a brother on the daily grind doing what he got to do, but knowing whatever happens, his woman got his back regardless of the outcome."Above The Law, Kokane, and upstarts Young Madd, Geno, and Vietnam graces the album.
Hutch feels that "Live From The Ghetto" is very reminiscent of Uncle Sam’s Curse not necessarily in the way of political opinion, but the overall realness that was the at the core of that noted classic album. The overall subject matter may be a bit racy for the commercial radio format, but for those who are familiar with 187um and ATL know they always offer a positive and possible solution within the content of their music.
As an entrepreneur, Hutch has always envisioned himself as being the sole controller of his destiny even before he decides to retire. He would like to see his company, WestWorld Entertainment Group, become the independent powerhouse that rivals the legendary Ruthless and Death Row Records, both of whom he is very familiar with. Hutch is very comfortable with his current distribution deal, which he has a history with from the days Above The Law were recording for Tommy Boy Records.
"Live From The Ghetto" is WestWorld Record’s third major release. The first single is entitled "Lyrical Murda" WestWorld Records has already hit various markets around the country with their own mixtape hosted by none other than Big Hutch himself. "The mixtape basically re-introduces me to the community and lets them know what they can expect with this album. We’ve been receiving great feedback from the mixtape, the streets is definitely feeling it, especially here in Los Angeles."
"Live From The Ghetto" will be released nation-wide on June 8th, 2004.

1085585770 - January 1, 1970 By : From Yuks official website SmokeAlotRecords.com:
The original thug lord has done it once again. With his flawless perpetual style and untouchable verbal heat on the mic and stage, Yukmouth AKA Godzilla prepares to release his latest project United Ghettos of America Vol. 2 DVD along with a scorching soundtrack to back it up. You may most likely recognize him from the platinum Bay Area rap sensation The Luniz (also known as Luni Toonz) and their never-faded ganja anthem I Got 5 on It & The Ice Cream Man. You probably own Thugged Out: The Albulation, Thug Lord: The New Testament, Godzilla, or one of his previous power packed projects. It’s nothing new. Yukmouth has a bigger body of work than Frank Sinatra and is one of the heaviest international rap sensations out there. Gaining ultimate exposure across the world throughout America, Europe, etc, Yukmouth portrays himself as the one of a kind real life thugged out west coast rapper. When it comes down to it, he has seen and done it all. Who started out in the ghettos of Oakland, California selling drugs, getting locked up, and writing his first song (The Ice Cream Man) in jail, ended up touring with Puff Daddy, Biggie, Mary J and some of the biggest names in hip hop history. During the period when recording Lunitk Muzik he landed into the hands of J. Price (CEO of Rap a lot Records in Houston, TX) who then offered him a solo record deal for which he released Thugged out: The Albulation which sold over 250,000 units with no video nor airplay. He then dropped Thug Lord: The New Testament which did just as good. In 2003 Yukmouth dropped Godzilla, his third album with Rap a Lot Records which is said to be his best album ever. What makes him flawless and one of the most respected rappers in game is the fact he stays loyal to the real and original figures in the industry and stays connected with the underground. He is mainstream but not commercial. Under his own label Smoke a lot Records, his most recent project was United Ghettos of America Vol. I the DVD and soundtrack which was one of his best works as well.
Though the critically acclaimed United Ghettos of America Vol. 1 was a sensation, volume II is said to be a hundred times better. The project will come in a DVD plus Soundtrack together in one pack unlike the first which the two was sold separately. On the soundtrack you will find the likes of exclusive songs from The Régime, Eastwood, Young Roscoe, Tha Realest, C-Bo, Spice 1, Dru Down, Ms. Toi, Outlawz, Mac Dre, Numskull, & Tech N9ne. The soundtrack also include the singles Kalifornia G’z – Yukmouth, Crooked I & E-40, Stunt 211 (50 Cent diss track) – Yukmouth, Silverback Gorillas, & Bang ‘em Smurf, We Just Wanna Thug – Yukmouth & Noreaga, and I love Dro – Yukmouth & Bun B. The DVD will include exclusive footage, lots of females and XXX Eye Candy Scenes, live events, performances, interviews and basically footage of how celebrities do it big. You can expect to see raw footage with Dennis Hall (Bunny Ranch), Eddie Griffin, Cedric The Entertainer, The Diplomats, Yin Yang Twins, Lil John, Too Short, Scarface, Kurupt, Tech N9ne, The Luniz, Floyd Mayweather, Suge Knight, Devin The Dude, Bishop Don Juan, Keak Da Sneak, Lil Flip, David Banner, Lisa Ray, Nelly, P. Diddy, and much more. United Ghettos of America Vol. 2 DVD will come with the soundtrack and the project is expected to drop around June/July of 2004 and will be nationally distributed.
