1147381561 - January 1, 1970 By : It's two years on May 28th since we introduced Mykestro to the world on dubcnn in a news article/interview with both Mykestro and his older brother and westcoast legend Battlecat. [View the article in the Archives].
When asked to describe himself he told dubcnn: "I would say I'm absolutely universal. I have alot of versitality, and definitely not what you would expect out of L.A. I come from a musical background, MC and production wise. I'm very consistent as far as lyrics go, I'm a MC!"
When asked about his influences growing up Mykestro shouts without hesitation that "Kurupt was my hero! That's my hero right there! That's who I looked up to when coming up, I always felt like he was a different type of MC, so that was my main influence from the gate. But now I listen to alot of different shit, I like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharaohe Monch, Ice Cube.. I like real MC's, I like Slum Village, Jigga of course, Eminem is a monster, Busta Rhymes, of course Biggie & Pac.. Yeah those are the main ones" While his big brother told dubcnn; "To me man, Mykestro is like Jay-Z and Common Sense in one... yeah he's like the mix of the two!"
Since then things have only been on the up for the artist that Tawala Sharp of KKBT Los Angeles said; "Hip-Hop is a couple, lost on a dark highway...Mykestro is the map that will set West Coast Hip-Hop back in the right direction."
Dubbed "The Best West OF The 110," Mykestro is THAT dude who is grinding hard and making his presence felt on the westcoast. His pedigree includes appearances on LPs by Snoop Dogg, countless mixtapes, and working with his older brother, the prodcution legend that is DJ Battlecat. On his debut single, Mykestro has linked with two of L.A.'s newest and brightest stars, Glasses Malone (Blu Division/Sony Music) and Bishop Lamont (Aftermath/Interscope) to deliver a record that could be a contender for CD Single & 12" of the year come December. Even rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother got nothing but love for Mykestro: "I f-cks wit Mykestro."
We have the audio from the single which is being released by ABB Records featuring Glasses Malone and Bishop Lamont with production from Terrace Martin and Diverse; cop the single to enjoy the "Raw & Uncutt" mix produced by DJ Battlecat.
Mykestro - Where You From?! (Feat. Glasses Malone) (Produced By Terrace Martin)
Mykestro - Fireman (Feat. Bishop Lamont) (Produced By Diverse)
Mykestro - Dubcnn Shoutout (2004)
We will be keeping you updated on Mykestro's debut album with news and audio as the year progresses, shouts to Mykestro, Glasses Malone, Blu Division, Bishop Lamont & ABB Records. Until then you can visit Mykestro's MySpace page to learn more about this talented youngster.

1151431692 - January 1, 1970 By : April 2006 was the first time that dubcnn readers we're exposed to a talented youngster by the name of Yung Walt, the Inglewood High graduate who swiftly opted for a career in music. Initial criticism by those close to him of that decision soon turned to delight as Yung Walt hopped on a hit single with Snoop Dogg for the "Welcome To Tha Church Tha Album" ["Shake Dat Sh-t"] a cut he wrote lyrics and performed the hook for.
Since then he was been busy working with various producers such as; Battlecat, Terrace Martin, 1500 and Chordz.
He released the solo album which we showcased music from called "Hustle 2 Struggle" under the independent label "Ghetto Child ENT" run by himself and partners Bubba and Mac Jackson - successfully selling over 3,000 units in L.A.
Over the past few months he has been working on a new mixtape to showcase his latest material to the world aptly titled; "The Presentation" [Hosted by: DJ Qwess] - where better he thought than to allow dubcnn.com to "Present" the mixtape to world as a Free download! We took some time with Yung Walt to find out what he thought of the mixtape: "I feel this mixtape is more like an album just because of the topics I'm on yet although im still lyrically going bananas - I'm just warming up!
He went on to explain how he feels about his position right now; "I feel i am the underground King of L.A. yet still I'm not the only one...we're all Kings its just I'm working to be one of the most mentioned."
When asked what he feels is the track on the mixtape that he enjoyed making and has become a favourite he told dubcnn: "My favorite song is 'Write My Wrongs' where I get political over the Lupe Fiasco 'Kick Push' track." - dont take his word for it, sample that and other tracks in the tracklist and look further down for the exclusive full mixtape download courtesy of Yung Walt and dubcnn.com. This is one not to be missed, shouts to Yung Walt & Ghetto Child ENT.

1154480447 - January 1, 1970 By : Part 2 caused an uproar amongst fans due to the comments Snoop Dogg made towards Crooked I, and Crook got to speak his part of the story in an exclusive interview we conducted with him the same day. That was only the second part of our four-part feature on Snoop Dogg.
It's time for Part 3, check it out below:
Snoop Dogg & Dubcnn - The Interview: Part 3
In Part 3, we start off with the question about The Game and the Change Of Heart tape, and whether Snoop believes that that hurt Game's credibilty. He speaks on Dogghouse producer Terrace Martin and why we're only getting to hear him now, aswell as some more info on "Blue Carpet Treatment", and why he chose to go back to the hood with this one.
The main topic in Part 3 however is Dr. Dre. Snoop goes in depth, tells us how he wishes the good Doctor would come back to the West Coast, and put some New West artists on, as well as his work process, the "Detox" project, and more.
We end this part with the question about Snoop Dogg selling out, and why he chose to do the moves that he did.
Be on the lookout for Part 4, where Snoop talks about working with Pharrell, why he doesn't get Dr. Dre to do his whole record, and what he thinks of people claiming Dr. Dre steals beats from people without giving them their proper credit. We go into detail regarding the production of The Chronic and other Death Row albums, as well as Snoop's views on Dr. Dre, Daz and others as producers.
Snoop Dogg explains why dubcnn is a good way for him to speak his mind compared to other internet companies, and we end the interview with some more words on Spider Loc, 40 Glocc and Crooked I.
Also, for those wanting the final answer on whether Dr. Dre has production on "Blue Carpet Treatment" or not, you will get your answer in Part 4! Stay tuned to dubcnn.

1174995958 - January 1, 1970 By : Warner Bros. Records have just announced the signing of a new label and production deal with Terrace Martin, the Los Angeles rapper and producer who has worked with Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Talib Kweli amongst others.
Under the terms of the deal, Warner Bros. Records will market, promote, and distribute artists that Terrace Martin signs to his company Jakai Music Group. Martin will also produce current Warner Bros. Records artists, including the upcoming Blacksmith/WBR release from Talib Kweli, as well as put out his own music, including his debut album, which he is currently working on.
Terrace Martin is a throwback to a pure form of musician - he believes in crafting real music and conceptual songs from scratch. Tick, A&R Director for WBR explained; "When Craig Aaronson, Naim Ali and I banded together to sign Terrace Martin, we all knew we had the total package of artist, producer and entrepreneur."
Currently Martin is best known for his production work on albums by Snoop Dogg, such as Snoop's recent gold-certified, soon to be platinum album "Tha Blue Carpet Treatment," and other artists in Tha Dogg Pound.
Terrace Martin, who is also a jazz saxophonist who has played with Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock, describes his style as; "Sounds that would happen if [hip-hop artist/producer] Hi-Tek was to have lunch with the Beatles, then go play with Michael Jackson's monkeys, then go kick it with Miles Davis. It's fun, feel-good music!"
We will keep you updated on this new deal and the music that comes out of the Jakai Music Group over the current months. For those of you who want to know more about Terrace Martin head over to his official MySpace page.

1178977025 - January 1, 1970 By : Yes sir! Dubcnn is back with two world premieres from Kurupt's upcoming solo album! After dropping a series of independent projects both by himself and with his partner Daz, Kurupt is going major on this one again! The album will be executive produced by Snoop Dogg and Kurupt, and they're currently selecting the perfect label situation for the release of the album.
You can exclusively listen to two tracks from the album below. The first one is called "Mystic River", and all I can say is, this is good music. Over a vintage laid back Battlecat production, Kurupt flexes his lyrical muscle, dropping some real life rhymes, with Daz assisting on the hook. Listen to the song below:
Kurupt - Mystic River (Prod. by Battlecat) (STREAM)
The second song is a party jam, a collaboration of Kurupt with some of the freshest new faces on the West. As recently announced on the radio, Kurupt has formed a new group with Terrace Martin and Problem. The trio hooked up with the "best west of the 110" Mykestro to flow over a funky Terrace Martin production. The song is called "All Night", listen below:
Kurupt - All Night (ft. Terrace Martin, Mykestro & Problem) (Prod. by Terrace Martin) (STREAM)
Enjoy the music, and be on the lookout for more news on Kurupt's solo album very soon! Kurupt also wants everybody to lookout for Gail Gotti's debut solo album, which will be overseen by Snoop Dogg & 50 Cent. The Infamous/G-Unit Records signee is ready to show all the doubters and haters what she's capable of! We will be premiering some new music from her project real soon, produced by Niggarachi.
As always, Kurupt has a lot of more on his plate too! Y.A.'s Tri-Star is wrapping up his solo album, and recently shot a video to the first single called "Dresscode Killer", look for that real soon. Y.A. are also finishing up their group album., while Kurupt's Philly group Tangled Thoughts are releasing their album "Philly 2 Cali" May 22nd. And, of course, J. Wells and Kurupt have their group album "Digital Smoke" coming out early June! Looks like Kurupt has some big plans for 2007, keep it locked right here to find out how they unfold!
Before I go though, I've been getting a lot of emails about Tha Dogg Pound's recent appearance on BET's Rap City show. For everybody who requested a video of Kurupt's freestyle, you can watch it by clicking here. Enjoy!
You know, while ya'll peeping out that new Kurupt sh*t, he wanted ya'll to vibe to some old classic DPG shit as well, so here's an old freestyle of Kurupt over The Lox' "We'll Always Love Big Poppa" beat, saying rest in peace to 2Pac and Biggie:
Kurupt - 2Pac & Biggie Tribute (Freestyle)
Vibe off to that until we get back with more music...

(Incase you missed the interview, click here to read it now) We've got two banging new tracks from the Best West Of The 110 that are bound to convince anybody who's not up on 'Stro yet.
The first track is a smooth, Terrace Martin-produced track called "All About The Loot", old school sounding and fresh at the same time. 'Stro kills it as always, too many quotables to pick from, and Terrace lays a smooth hook.

The second track is another Terrace Martin production, more up-beat this time around, something to move to. The song is called "Hands High" and features a verse from Kurupt Young Gotti, as well as J. Black on the hook. Mykestro doesn't let off the lyricial pedal for a second, make sure to check out the song below:
