news 1129623507 - January 1, 1970 By : Another new westcoast act that many of you may not be familiar with is the group, NV. The duo consists of Absolute and Dolla, two young men who have grown up in L.A. and come together to form the group NV. Absolute speaks on the groups focus: ""The hip hop community is used to the norm. As a group, people feel like we should have a similar sound or flow but I think thats where n*ggas fail at. Its time for something fresh and new."

Regarding the name NV, Dolla revealed: "The name came with our experience. In school we were the flashy n*ggas that had what other n*ggas wanted but n*ggas know we are street niggas so they never came at us but it was obvious that the envy was there."

Initially the duo started out with their sights set on gaining money and fame however over a period of time maturity set in and the goals of the group changed: "I started rappin as a hobby. I met a producer back in high school and told him i rapped and he put me on. N*ggas in the hood were feelin it so I chose to pursue it and then brought Dolla on." to which Dolla replied, "I didnt rap at all but after we did our first show and we seen the reaction i fell in love with it. I saw it as a way to make money but me and Loot [Absolute] both realize its much bigger than that. We speak on what we've experienced and what we see which can be the same way a n*gga from my hood feels, a person from the sub-burbs or even someone in another country may be feeling. When you listen to Pac, Jay-Z, Game and 50 and see how their music reaches people who dont even speak your lanuage thats big. Its time for us to share our experiences with the world as well."

So with all the background on the group and it's goals laid down i know you will want to hear some product! news 1140265692 - January 1, 1970 By : Now dubcnn is world renowned for opening eyes to new talent, some you take to, others you don't - thats life. Yet every now and again an individual or a collective grabs your attention and urges you to listen and take note. Over the years individuals such as Bishop Lamont, Glasses Malone and some others have requested that respect from their grind, talent and dogged determination to succeed. Two more that strike me are Bad Lucc and his Westurn Union collaborator Damani; both grinding, working hard to succeed in what is a
difficult industry.

The first of which, Bad Lucc, dropped what can only be described as a "Street Classic" track last year by the name of "City Life" which featured the vocal talents of Toussaint on the hook. The track outlined the struggle of inner city living and captured an essence not often portrayed well via music, yet they managed it and to acclaim from all corners of the globe. Now Bad Lucc is a big supporter of dubcnn and as such he promised he would let us hear more from Toussaint and as ever has come through for you the readers with information and music.

It's always a pleasure to unveil an artist who can portray the art of music in a way not often seen, in this case we are proud to exclusively reveal Toussaint soon to be better known in the industry as 2 a.k.a. The Double Dose. Now 2 (Toussaint Harris) has not just thrown himself into the arena overnight, he has been steadliy perfecting his craft over the years, testing his abilities in battles and freestyle sessions all over his native city of Inglewood, Ca. Thus far we have only heard the 21 year old showcasing his singing talent however he also posseses lyrical content and punchlines mixed with a crisp flow that ensures each verse strikes hard and sounds fresh. So put that in a mixing pot and what do you have? Lyrics, flow, punchlines and he can sing? Now that is a competent artist at a very young age and judging by what we have heard thus far a long career in the making. Speaking with 2 he tells us; "My style is what you call Hood Good. The flow is like cursive letters compared to manuscript."

Influenced by artists such as Marvin Gaye, R. Kelly, Nate Dogg, Nas and Tupac, 2 paints a picture with his music thats actually real and not overly flamboyant. Having been born in Los Angeles but raised in Inglewood, 2 began entertaining people with his singing at age 16 and then began perfecting rapping over the following year. Brought up with his talented brother LeMarvin, 2 quickly realised he had a talent to entertain and then decided to pursue it. Blowing away students and faculty alike at High School talent shows and sending competitive MC's back to their walkmans to think again during famous neighborhood ciphers ensured 2 created a buzz in the streets at a rapid pace and a belief enstiled that he is by far "The Popular Product."

He is currently recording songs with talented producers including Ricc Rude and THX, so you know 2 is ready to bring something new to the table, variety and skill.

As ever we have some audio for you to get your ears around; listen and please take some time to visit our forum to drop your thoughts. Both tracks are laced by T.H.X aka "Black Floyd" and feature 2's brother LeMarvin who is signed to the "Co-Stars."

2 - Have U Ever Seen (Feat. Scan, Bad Lucc & LeMarvin)
2 - We Done Made It (Feat. LeMarvin)

Thanks to Bad Lucc, 2 and LeMarvin; look for more news and audio from this collective on dubcnn very soon.

Now as a little refresher; NV are duo consisting of Absolute and Dolla, two young men who have grown up in L.A. and come together to form the collective NV. Last year we released information and let you hear music from a mixtape they had just released called "Go Hard or Go Home" which featured incredible production from Goldeneye, THX, J Classic, Ink & Ric Rude as well as appearances from west coast emcees Badd Lucc & J-Do and down south recent Warren G collaborator Frank Lee White

Well as ever dubcnn was NV's first port of call when they wanted to release new music and information on their street album which is set to be titled; "Cruel Intentions." The record is currently having the finishing touches applied but what we have heard thus far and the music we have to showcase today outlines something the westcoast is often missing - a feel good, up-tempo record with obvious commerical appeal.

The album will include production from J-Classic, 1500 Or Nothing, THX and more as well as a welcome appearance from dubcnn featured and heavily acclaimed; Bad Lucc. NV have been grinding hard this year and it has paid off with opportunities flooding in, they have recently shared the stage with Lil Wayne & recent Oscar winners Three Six Mafia.

The group has many shows planned this year from L.A. to North Carolina and we urge people to check them out when they drop in your area, to stay updated visit NV's MySpace Page. Anyone in Hollywood needs to roll to the Shinin' Event at The Larchmont on March 18th, the event is hosted by StayFresh Entertainment to promote NV's single; "Shinin'" - the track we have for download below!

They are currently working on a deal for the record, we will let you know when it's finalized. Those of you who went to the D.P.G. show at the Roxy's last week saw Goldie Loc on stage performing the classic "G'd Up" with Snoop, so the two have officially back up.

Goldie Loc's partner-n-rhyme Tray Deee is still incarcerated, but they holla at each other regularily and keep in touch. Hopefully one day we'll be able to hear the duo wreck tracks together again.

Mykestro, your favorite rapper's favorite up and coming rapper (don't believe me, check our latest interviews; when asked about new artists, Mykestro is one of the first names to pop up!), has been generating a big buzz and it's only a matter of time before Stro gets himself a nice situation to release his music on.

news 1170270336 - January 1, 1970 By : It was a little over six months ago, in July 2006, when Jag first graced the pages of dubcnn. Since then the Watts native has been busy building his buzz, growing his fanbase and most importantly recording new material.

The response to our initial introduction to Jag via our On The Come Up article was immense, he quickly ammassed a vast number of plays and downloads of the two tracks we premiered and captured the imagination of many on our forum.

Jag, who successfully battled 5 different MC's at the famed "Fight Klub" in New York last year, told us in July "I plan on getting a deal and have longevity in the rap game, I don't want to be a one hit wonder, what stands out about Jag is that I'ma always do me" - part of this plan has always been to release a set of mixtapes under the collective series title "Music Money," the first of which is called "Money Over Fame" and in conjunction with dubcnn is available for free download.

The mixtape features no named features, Jag opts to keep it simple with skill, mic prescense and lyrics over a blend of original production and mixtape style freestyles. The original production is handled by a host of names that are becoming more familiar by the day including Ricc Rude, 1500 Or Nothing, THX, The Animal House, Notch, and DJ Prosper. What you will hear on this release is Jag's flow, lyrical ability and song writing skills - he is by no means one dimensional, Jag is quickly becoming a complete artist.

news 1172832689 - January 1, 1970 By : Since we first unleashed Watts flame spitter Bad Lucc onto our readers in 2005 things have snowballed dramatically for the up and coming artist.

From relative obscurity he emerged and instantly made the world sit up and take note; from his vocal tone to his flow, from his lyrics to his ability to craft a song - he made sure that when he dropped a track it was fresh and worthy of listeners attention.

Westurn Union, a group that he had been in with Damani for some time at this point, also started reciving attention with the "Jackin' 4 DJ's" series they were putting out and soon recruited a third member, Soopafly. The buzz grew stronger, the music kept getting fresher and before anyone knew what was happening the group was working on their debut album, made an appearance on Snoop Dogg's "The Blue Carpet Treatment" and Damani inked a deal with Sony Records. Not bad for a year's work!

While Damani and the Westurn Union as a collective continue work on their debut albums, Bad Lucc also wants to ensure 2007 is the year of his first solo outing. Since the turn of the year he has had his head down grinding out hits for his release which, although not yet titled, will be out after the Westurn Union album in the summer.

The first track we have is a THX produced banger that sees Bad Lucc getting real serious for a moment on the issues that are really effecting his life; "I cant really hit the streets cause i aint risking it all, i don't wanna say oh sh-t but there's chickens involved, i gotta take life slow, that was passing me by, too weak to hold my head, too much of a man to cry, on the comp all day, myspace and the blogs, i would love to get out, no money no cars, bills popping up and i ain't made no moves, i feel sick, shit stunna must've took my groove, i could fall down through it, but that ain't my style i just conjour up a way to keep making these smiles."

The lyrics don't get the angst he creates with his voice as he delivers these heatfelt verses and when they align with the killer hook by B.J. The Chicago Kid you really get the truth he is trying to get across.

Bad Lucc -
Real Sh-t (Feat. B.J. The Chicago Kid) (Produced by THX)

On the second cut Bad Lucc enlists Westurn Union partner in rhyme Damani and fellow Watts native Halla [see our On The Come Up article] for a track called "Gangstas." This high tempo, heavy bass production is by none other than Swiff D, who laced the acclaimed Pacific Division track "Women Problems" that we dropped last year, all the MC's on this track match the hard hitting beat with equally vicious lyrics.

When asked about the track Bad Lucc told Dubcnn; "This one is just about how in Cali, we dont need a reason to do sh-t. We just go. Whether it's shooting, fighting, whatever. We dont need a reason to do that sh-t. We from Killa Cali. Its all green light. This is more war than peace, ya dig!"

Bad Lucc - Gangstas (Feat. Damani & Halla) (Produced by Swiff D)

We guarantee that if your a fan of Lucc already then he has not dissapointed again with this new music and those of you new to the talent then this is sure to turn your attention and make you a believer! Stay tuned to dubcnn for the latest on Bad Lucc's debut, Damani's album and the Westurn Union project. In the meantime head over to Bad Lucc's MySpace page for more information, images and audio.

news 1197997290 - January 1, 1970 By : After the acapella version of Jay-Z's "American Gangster" recently surfaced, DJ Skee immediately had a vision for a creative way to put his own twist on the album. The resulting project, "American Godfather," features the Jay-Z acapellas from "American Gangster" set to the score of the classic film "The Godfather."

Skee enlisted the help of many of the hottest producers on the West - including Rome, Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell, Ervin "EP" Pope, and THX - to develop a unique sound for the remix album that would break all sorts of musical barriers. The project sounds unlike anything you've ever heard before, and you know Dubcnn has to hook you up with the free download as usual! Get it below.

DJ Skee Presents "The American Godfather" [Free Download]

Make sure to leave DJ Skee a comment on Myspace after you're done listening to the album. Skee is also holding a contest for "American Godfather" that you can be a part of.
