1152233567 - January 1, 1970 By : One of the busiest Mixtape DJ's on the scene today is DJ Dow Jones. Most notable is his Play Your Position Mixtape series, which he last left us at installment 5. But, the man's back and riding high off the news of his Production duo, Tha Bizness, with J-Hen signing into a production/management deal with G-Unit's Sha Money XL's Teamwork Music. The duo will serve as in-house Producers for the G-Unit family, but will also offer their Production to artists outside the G-Unit circle, being that Sha Money will now act as their management. As G-Unit expands their roster, Dow Jones expands his Mixtape catalogue with 3 new installments to the Play Your Position series.

First up, The Parker Brothaz, Dow Jones' artists from Seattle, WA, on Play Your Position Vol. 6. 1152951316 - January 1, 1970 By : Bigg Snoop Dogg took some time yesterday to speak with AllHipHop about his new album; "The Blue Carpet Treatment" [due in the fall], his plans for WestCoast Dominance as well as his work on two new westcoast groups - who you may ask? Well the project we exclusively revealed last week called Warzone with MC Eiht, Kam & Goldie Loc [listen to Goldie Loc telling dubcnn about the project; here] - and the group that has been around for a few years and are no strangers to dubcnn - Westurn Union - which includes original members Damani & Bad Lucc and now includes DPG member Soopafly.


Snoop Dogg explained that we wishes to reclaim the top spot for the westcoast; "I hate losing. I'm a sore loser. That's why when the West Coast was losing, I had to come step the game up so we could get back in the game. We just want to get noticed one more time and then once you notice us and start to hear us, then you'll start to feel us."

With recent westcoast releases Snoop forsees a resurgence and a chance for the axle of power to shift back to left side of the country; "Ice Cube's album is out doing tremendous things right now and E-40's record came out bangin'. Keak Da Sneak did his thing, my n-ggas Tha Dogg Pound just came out [and] they sh-t smoking. Everybody's gearing up for my new record so it's coming back around. The Waist Deep movie just came out, which is West Coast sh-t. So it's like the movement is coming back full circle. It's got to come back home."

In regard to the new groups he is getting behind - all groups dubcnn readers are all too aware of [Warzone - MC Eiht, Kam & Goldie Loc, listen to Goldie Loc telling dubcnn about the project; here - and Westurn Union comprising of Damani, Bad Lucc and Soopafly] - Snoop explained his reasoning behind the alleigance; "My thing is trying to build the West Coast up by putting n-ggas together and formulating groups so we can learn how to group up as opposed to putting n-ggas out individually. I figured if we do groups and then one member shines, then we can push him solo. Put the group first and that way everybody eats."

Snoop also spoke about his frustration at other regions attitude towards the west when it is quiet; "I'm fin to put a stop to all that sh-t. All you motherf-ckin' suckers that ain't from the West Coast, n-gga, your pass has been revoked. Time out. We need our b-tches back, we need our lowriders back, n-gga. We need all that back n-gga -- with interest. We don't need y'all comin' out here wastin' time shooting our videos in our hood and then by the time we want to shoot, it look like some sh-t we stole from y'all. Get the f-ck out of here. They know not to confront me and I wish one of them would, I'm talking to every last one of you n-ggas. Straight from the Dogg's mouth. All that doing videos and sh-t out here n-gga without checking in with Snoop Dogg is over with."

The angst expressed here by Snoop seems to go further that just the video angle - he also believe its having an effect on employment; "A lot of these n-ggas just come out here using us, and not using us. If you gonna come to the West, start using some of these n-ggas and give them jobs. I can't come to your town and shoot a video without hiring some of your people and checking in with the right folks and what not. I'mma get ran up out there. Come on man. Show some love."

It seems Snoop's got the fire back under him, he's p-ssed, he's angry - lets hope that this echoes on his new LP - "Blue Carpet Treatment" [in stores October 18] - his lead single "Vato" is burning up the radio, listen to the exclusive snippet of the single here.

1154762935 - January 1, 1970 By : The westcoast now has representation on one of the biggest emerging record labels in the industry. BabyGrande. The well known underground collective known as Custom Made have signed a deal which includes a mixtape due out in September including a DVD followed by the groups official debut album in 2007.

Over the years they have been together they have drawn comparisons to the likes of Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep while all the time creating a strong buzz in the streets of L.A.

Having moved over 100,000 mixtapes on the strength of the music and their own street savvy they saw national noteriety earlier this year when L.A.s DJ Warrior featured the group on his Cali Untouchable Ice Cube Mixtape.

"Custom Made has a sound and feel that you dont expect to hear and see coming out of L.A. To me their music is a fusion of all aspects of LA hip-hop culture presented in an entirely new manner and that originality and realness is what makes everyone from bangers to battlers feel their music. All of them are either 19 or 20 years old so they truly represent a new generation of hip-hop" exlained Chuck Wilson of BabyGrande.

1155292442 - January 1, 1970 By : Chino XL is keeping himself busy this year with his latest release; the follow up to the acclaimed "Poison Pen" that was released earlier this year. Alongside Sway and King Tech of "100.3 The Beat", well known for their nationally syndicated "Wake Up Show," Chino XL is set to be the first official release off their Record Label, Bolo Entertainment/Bungalo Records.

The new release "Warning" is considered a mixtape however with the production and appearances on the release it is being widely labelled a Street Album. Chino XL has enlisted artists inclduded Akon, Snoop Dogg, Planet T.H., Chamillionaire, Cool & Dre, Evidence of Dilated Peoples and Bun B.

The lead single from the release has been produced by Cool & Dre and features the production duo's own Dre on the track alongside Snoop Dogg. The track is called "Don't Run From Me" and can be heard below.

1156290208 - January 1, 1970 By : There are constantly new artists emerging from the Coast, some who talk a lot but ain't really saying nothing, and then those who move in silence while letting the music do the talking. One of the latter ones happens to be Slo-Mo. Ever since the 808 rapper released his first solo project "The One Man Gang" in 2005 (featuring one of the best underground joints "Throw Down"), he has been featured on Dubcnn numerous times (after receiving his first coverage on Westcoast2k.net).

Having followed his music pretty closely, I can safely say that Slo-Mo is definitely doing it the right way while bringing the realness to the table. Slo has just released his new mixtape entitled "Move In Silence" and it was mixed by the Bay Area Mix Tape Kings The Demolition Men. The inspiration behind the title is basically his opinion on the current state of Hip Hop. As mentioned, there is too much flash and fireworks going on but no truth and no substance coming out of the music. So in summary, moving in silence is the way Slo-Mo rolls, without any bragging or fake threats.

The overall feel of the album is very pleasing, if you're a fan of that good ole boom bap combined with some West Coast slaps you need to check this out. As for the song selection and features, Slo-Mo offers 25 songs on the mixtape with a couple familiar tracks which we premiered on this site a while ago, like "Put U On It" featuring Mistah F.A.B., or the amazing cut "Trippin On It". Production comes from Keelay of the Sole Vibe, Slapp Symphony, Veterano, and Illmind (who has a bright future ahead of him).

The first single "On Some Real Shit" which features Miami's Rick Ross has been getting decent spins on the radio and the video aired on TV and online a few months ago.

Dubcnn brought you some snippets from "So So Gangsta" a while ago, and one of thsoe snippets was a song called "Weekend", featuring So So Def's Atlanta singing talent Johnta Austin, who recently won a Grammy for co-writing Mariah Carey's smash hit "We Belong Together".

The Brooklyn born rapper has been compared to Big Pun, not only because of his Latin origin, but also because of his voice and flow, check out his Big Pun tribute on his MySpace page.

"So far it's been great and I'm glad people are feeling me now but I know I have a long way to go before I'm running with the big boys like Jay-Z or 50 Cent. That's where I'm trying to reach, nothing less", Ortiz said in a statement.


Ortiz told XXL about how the deal was arranged:
"I actually just got a phone call in May that Dre wanted to fly me out, that he had heard some songs through a friend of mine, Karen, up at Interscope. I think she had hooked it up or whatever. But he flew me out and it was crazy. It was like 10 or 15 minutes of me playing songs. He was just like, “Yo, I’m feeling you.” I’m like, “Yo, what the dilly, yo?” He’s like, “Yo, you wanna be Aftermath?” I’m like, “You’re damn right I wanna be Aftermath!”

1160819017 - January 1, 1970 By : Another day, another signing. Yesterday we reported that one of the most promising West Coast talents Damani has signed to Sony. And just a few hours later we're happy to report the news about Damani's new labelmate: rapper Buccweet has signed a major deal with Sony too after a bidding war! The signing took place a few weeks ago, but the announcement doesn't come as a surprise. If you read our article on Buccweet back in August [see: New Music From Buccweet; Album Drops Next Year], you could tell there was something in the works.

The 818 rapper has been working on his upcoming album "Ask About Me" which he's now going to release with the help from Sony. The current release date for the album is February 27th and it's set to have a few heaveyweight collabos. The street single is called "Here We Go Again" and the official single is called "What You Like To Do". Of course Dubcnn has both songs available for download. We also have an extra song for you called "New Rapper" which is fresh out the studio.

Look out for Buccweet's mixtape soon which he's dropping in the meantime, entitled "Fix Your Face Vol. 3". Also look for Buccweet coverage in XXL, The Source, and Vibe Magazine soon.

Since releasing his "Blow" mixtape for free download on dubcnn, he then created and put out the smash hit street album/mixtape "The Cruzifixion" which was the final step to impressing music mogul Jimmy Iovine.

1161329808 - January 1, 1970 By : Earlier this week we released news on the latest posthumous release from Tupac as well as the albums lead single, [see The Latest Tupac Release "Pac's Life" Lead Single], which so far has received mixed reviews from our readers and forum members.

The new album entitled "Pac's Life" - the confirmed cover of which can now be seen to the left - will feature unreleased Tupac material as well as a host of 'current' HipHop and R&B acts.


The album includes contributions by Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Keyshia Cole, T.I., Ashanti, Young Buck, Carl Thomas, Big Syke, Papoose, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Outlawz and Lil Scrappy with production from LT Hutton, Sha Money XL, Swizz Beatz and others.

A recent press release regarding the album stated; "One verse fans will recognize from an earlier album, all of the [other] recordings on the album are previously unheard." In the past decade since Tupac's death there have been 11 posthumous albums released which have featured music that Tupac recorded prior to his murder.

When asked about "Pac's Life", his mother Afeni Shakur stated; "I say it every time, that Tupac left us the blueprints to follow, and without the amazing contributions made by everyone of these artists, producers, musicians, everyone, I do not know how I would get this great task accomplished, I believe whole-heartedly that Tupac sends the people he wants to these projects."

As in our previous update on the album we have the albums title track "Pac's Life" for download which features T.I & Ashanti and is produced by LT Hutton.

Following his 2005 summer mixtape "Wadda Damage Volume 1" he released the second installment in early 2006 which was mixed by D-Tect (DJ of F.I.L.T.H.E.E. Immigrants and Chico & Coolwadda) and hosted by DJ Fingaz.

All the while Coolwadda has also been busy launching Asphalt Entertainment with long time friend/CEO K-Mack. Since then he has been working on material from his solo debut album which now has a release date of February 13th 2007.

Fans can expect collaborations with artists including Suga Free, Kokane, Dub Sac, Young Hootie, Keak tha Sneak & Kokane, the latter two make their appearance on the albums single "From Behind" which we have for exclusive download below.

This time around Cane's about giving back to the fans so instead of selling them, he's decided to give them away for FREE! This mixtape also contains songs from his highly anticipated 3rd album entitled "In My Life" due out in early 2007. Mista Cane and Pervelous P entertainment have a consistent track record for delivering "album quality" mixtapes and this one is no exception.

In 2005 he continued at a fierce pace by recording a group project along side Arsen in 2005 entitled "High Risk High Reward".

DJ Nik Bean has teamed up with Julio G (93.5 K-Day) L.A.'s most respected DJ/Radio personality to bring the second installement in his "The Streets Of L.A." mixtape series.

As usual the Mixtape features all new west coast exclusives and world premiers from The Game, Snoop Dogg, Glasses Malone, Xzibit, Bishop Lamont, Daz, Crooked I and plenty of other notables.

1172425227 - January 1, 1970 By : The Hip-Hop concerts known as Unity originally started in 1991 and became the central point of a whole Los Angeles Hip-Hop movement. Started by William Lanakila Operin aka "Bigga B," Unity catered to a growing Hip-Hop audience and laid the foundation for an environment where Gangsta Rap prevailed in the early nineties.

Unlike countless other events of its time, Unity saw legendary Hip-Hop artists such as Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Pharcyde, Biggie, Jay Z, Hieroglyphics, Boot Camp Click and others grace their stage.

A decade-and-a-half later, Unity is being resurrected by the legendary Soul Assassins under the new name title Soul Assassins Unity Festival.

The previous sold out show was a monumental display of Hip-Hop enthusiasts and performing artists alike connecting in the true spirit of Unity. The show was an over-whelming success and The Source magazine was there to capture it all, which resulted in a feature two-page spread in the January 2007 edition. Chace Infinate of Self Scientific said; "The first show was an incredible night, it was proof that people still want to see quality Hip-Hop shows, March 8th is gonna be crazy!"

Due to the first Unity's sold out show, the second installment of Unity on March 8th 2007 had to be expanded and will now be held at the famous Avalon Theater in Hollywood. This event promises to be an eclectic resurgence of mind blowing Hip-Hop energy which features the first official Los Angeles performance by La Coka Nostra, a supergroup comprised of House Of Pain's Everlast, Danny Boy, and DJ Lethal, Non Phixion's Ill Bill, and Boston's very own Slaine.

Also onstage will be Evidence of Dilated Peoples along side Defari of the Likwit Crew, plus Puerto Rican rap star Chino XL and new Hip-hop buzz group heavily featured on dubcnn Pacific Division. All star DJ's for the night are DJ Mark Luv / Zulu Nation, J-Rocc of the Beat junkies, and Mr. Choc. The event will also feature a cash only retail installment by L.A.'s premiere streetwear boutique Grey One.

In the continuous spirit of excellence Unity will host special surprise celebrity performances only to be revealed once you step in the door. You can expect his mixtape album "Hot Box 2" the follow up to the street smash "Hot Box" to hit the streets this summer. "Fans have been asking for a long time to start digging in the vaults, one of the first songs I found is one of my favorites."

Common's Finding Forever is also heavily anticipated, with production from Kanye West, J.Dilla, Will.I.Am, and features from Nas, Dwele, D'Angelo & Bilal. July 10th is the date.

DJ Khaled is ready with the star-packed We The Best compilation, with production from Danja, The Runners, Scott Storch, Swizz Beatz, Cool & Dre, and more. 1181061599 - January 1, 1970 By : Last week we re-introduced the young Compton talent Wing who we first met back in 2004 with his new track with DJ Ca$$. The Galaxy West Entertainment artist is back again already on dubcnn, this time with his latest mixtape release, "Eat Or Be Eaten."

"Eat Or Be Eaten" is the culmination of months in the studio working with an array of producers including Epic The Arsonist, M-80, DJ Ophax and VT. The result is a cohesive mixtape/street album release with original production carrying varied subject matter.

Whether it's the funky single "Might Be" or the energy fuelled "Real MC" listeners can quickly see the capabilities of Wing and appreciate the variety that he brings to the game. We have these two tracks as well as three others from the mixtape available for download below within the full tracklist.

Before we get into that we want to premiere a brand new track that doesn't feature on "Eat Or Be Eaten," instead this is a track that is set to feature on Wing's debut LP due in the summer. "Hour Glass" has quickly become a favourite for the Dubcnn staff and we have the track for exclusive download below. Wing once again showcases his versatility and vigor on the mic, this is one MC not be ignored.

1181765163 - January 1, 1970 By : Multi-faceted Hip-Hop superstar Common is prepping his highly anticipated seventh album, Finding Forever, for a July 31st release on G.O.O.D Music/Geffen Records. The album is the follow up to the four times Grammy nominated, critically heralded and Kanye West produced Be, which spawned hits including "The Corner," "Go," and "Testify."

Finding Forever, finds Kanye again taking the bulk of production work with help from Will.I.Am on the sultry "I Want You," the late great J. Dilla on "So Far To Go," featuring a surprise guest appearance by D'Angelo and G.O.O.D Music producer Devo Springsteen on "Misunderstood."

On Finding Forever, Common, rips the mic like a hungry newcomer. The street single "The Game" produced by Kanye with scratches by the legendary DJ Premier is a horn drenched, vintage NY rap boom-bap banger from the Chi-town emcee, no less (check video out at www.common-music.com/media). The resounding lead single "The People" finds Common lyrically asserting why and who he creates his music for over regal strings, delectable keys and hard to get vocals by Gil Scott Heron. The video for "The People" will be in shot in by Neon in NYC on Saturday, June 9th.

Since 1992 the Chicago native and Source Unsigned Hype alum has built an unparalleled catalog of progressive Hip-Hop music. From his first release of Can I Borrow a Dollar to his ground-breaking release of Resurrection to his most recent release of Be, the media has poured in the compliments: XXL magazine gave Be a rare XXL rating in there magazine, Rolling Stone said Resurrection was a "confluence of phat beats, smooth flows, and dope rhymes, and Interview magazine noted that on Like Water for Chocolate "with piercing intellect and poignant lyrics, Common may be the most skilled rapper."

When searching for the perfect beat, they all call one man, London’s Juliano "Recordkingz" Baker.

Well known throughout the Hip-Hop community as the Number 1 source of rare records for collectors and producers alike, Juliano and his well established Recordkingz Store have been servicing the industry for years.


As one half of the legendary UK production team, The Creators Juliano has become "the-go-to" man for beats and drums. The Creators debut LP "The Weight," released in 2000 featured the likes of Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Consequence and was the first UK Hip-Hop producer LP to garner widespread acclaim in the US. The long-awaited sequel, "Heavyweight," sees Juliano team up with the likes of Mobb Deep (G-Unit), Evidence (ABB), Little Brother (ABB/Atlantic), Joel Ortiz (Aftermath), Assim (Bad Boy), The Beatnuts as well as rising stars Guilty Simpson (Stonesthrow) and Watts' native/Dubcnn regular Glasses Malone.

1184968551 - January 1, 1970 By : If you've never heard of Los Angeles rapper A Da Business a.k.a. A-B, then it's not your fault. He has been quiet and patiently waiting a long time for his big break. The hard work behind the scenes has paid off, as he's currently in negotiations with several major record labels, thanks to his resume which includes names like 50 Cent, Kanye West, LT Hutton, Tyrese and many others.

Going back 3 years, A-B was introduced to 50 Cent to collaborate on a song called "Infrared" produced by Red Spyda.

To this day, the song is still unreleased. Why you ask? The reason is that the same beat later found its way onto "Guerilla City", a song from Guerilla Black's last album, even before A-B got his chance to shine.

"Me and 50 Cent originally did the song," A-B told Dubcnn.com. "but then the beat was sold to Guerilla Black. It wasn't Guerilla's fault, it was his A&R from Virgin Records who fucked up. He heard me on the song and he was like "I'm working on the Guerilla Black album, I need to buy that track!" So he went behind my back and bought the beat from Red Spyda. It was a gay ass lil' move. But I wasn't trippin', cause like I said, once 50 and me touched the song it was over! I never put the album out so the song never saw the light of day. If I would have put the album out, Guerilla Black would have never been able to put that song out. But Guerilla is my homeboy too, so it ain't no bad look for him, it's just his A&R." A-B continued.

A-B said that he might still use "Infrared" for his upcoming mixtape, but him and 50 are probably gonna do something new for the album. "50 did his thing on there for me as far as putting the hook on there, and I laced the verses. They did the song under Dr. Dre's roof, and you know, when they do something under his proof, it's a Dre beat automatically. But Spyda originally did the beat though. The only way Dre's name was gonna be on it is if I had put it on my album, but I was still gonna give Red Spyda his credit." A-B said.

When asked why he never got the chance to drop the album, even though it had appearances from heavyweights like 50 Cent, he said that "I couldn't drop it by myself. We need the deals to go through, and I never signed no contracts with nobody. I did that song independent, but I pulled that off being a hot artist. They asked me to come in and do a few songs and one thing led to another. I was also fucking with my family at BMF [Black Mafia Family], so everybody thought I was signed to them. I was an artist at BFM, but I never signed any contracts."

Around that time, Sha Money XL tried to sign A-B to G-Unit after the song with 50 was completed. And as of today, he's just looking for the right place to get signed. "Right now, my big homie Warren G is trying to shop me to Aftermath, so we're trying to see what's going on with that situation. Warren said that Aftermath would probably be the best place for me, being a L.A. artist. But I'm not the type of dude hunting down labels and beating down their doors telling them to play my music. I just stay recording, and whatever comes up, comes up!"

Being aware that many artists signed to Aftermath were dropped in the past, A-B explained that it's all about your dedication and your grind. "The record label can only do so much. It's on you to make yourself hot!"

A-B is currently cooking up hits behind closed doors, before he's getting ready to hit the big scene. He's got a new single that is about to drop called "Don't Get Me Confused" featuring Tyrese on the hook with production by LT Hutton. Frequent Dubcnn visitors will be familiar with the song, as it was previously featured on Tyrese's (a.k.a. Black Ty) mixtape "Ghetto Royalty", which we offered for free download a while ago. The mixtape version was a Remix and also featured a verse from Kurupt.

The track will be featured on his upcoming album "Have Heart, Have Money". To create a buzz for his debut, he's coming with a mixtape first called "Hood Classic". As you can see, A-B is about his work ethic. In addition to these two projects, he has already started working on his follow-up album called "All Business, Never Personal".

"Right now we're working on the marketing strategy and promotion for "Have Heart, Have Money", A-B told Dubcnn. "As for the music, I did everything on my own. I did over 70 songs with all kind of hot producers like LT Hutton, Kanye West, Jelly Roll, Denaun Porter, DJ Khalil, No I.D., KG from Naughty By Nature, Rick Rude, Rodney Jerkins, and many others. Basically I'm making the label's job a lot easier. The package is ready. What you wanna do? Just cut the check, start on media and promotion, drop the single, shoot a video, and it's a wrap!" he said.

1192185243 - January 1, 1970 By : After several years of litigation, West Coast MC John Austin aka Ras Kass and recording label Capitol Records / EMI have entered into a settlement agreement, the exact terms of which have not been disclosed. While details of the agreement are not known, Ras Kass is now legally able to seek out new recording agreements and can seek out new deals with new labels.

Ras Kass originally signed with Priority Records through a deal with Patchwerk Records where he released 1996's critically acclaimed "Soul on Ice" and 1998's "Rassassination".

Ras Kass then re-signed directly with Priority and was set to drop "Van Gogh" in 2001 but that label's merger with Capitol, which was taking place at that time, affected the promotion of that project and after being pushed back twice, the project was permanently shelved by the label. The album had however been leaked on the internet and had been very well received by Ras' fan base.

A replacement album was planned entitled "Goldyn Chyld" featuring new material and tracks from the shelved "Van Gogh", with an intended 2002 release date. That project too was shelved following bitter disputes between Ras Kass and Capitol. Ras' subsequent incarceration that year, and the growing animosity between he and the label made future projects unlikely.

May 2004 saw the filing of a lawsuit by Austin in California which contained causes of action for Declatory Relief re: Labor Code Sec. 2855(b); Breach of Contract; Breach of Implied Covenant of Good Faith and Fair Dealing; Interference with Prospective Economic Advantages and Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress. Shortly thereafter, a lawsuit was filed in New York federal court by Capitol / EMI in August 2004 alleging Federal Copyright Infringement due to Ras' release of a mixtape entitled "Re-Up" for which Capitol / EMI obtained a default judgement against the MC. In the California lawsuit, Capitol / EMI filed a Motion for Summary Judgement, which was granted, and obtained a judgement against Ras Kass in the Fall of 2006; that judgement was appealed. "Re-Up" received a XXL rating in XXL magazine and was highly acclaimed on MTV's Mixtape Monday's and nationwide.

October 2007 sees a final and legal end to all of these disputes. Ras' managment team Asti Management (Styles P, DJ Kid Capri) is anxious to begin shopping the MC for a new deal and Ras himself is very satisfied with the final resolution. "I am just relieved and thankful to my management team, my attorney Nyanza Shaw, OGPR and all of the music press that showed me love and support these past few years. Now I am anxious to finally be able to pursue my passion, spread my wings and remind the world why Ras Kass is one of the greatest MC's of all time; dead or alive!" he says.

Fans can see Ras Kass on the Cypher Segment of this year's BET Hip Hop Awards this Saturday, October 13, 2007.

1200253809 - January 1, 1970 By : "In an industry based soley on gimmicks, Kontroversy Committee is hoping to shake the business" - so reads the introduction from this new group we are here to introduce today.

Kontroversy Committee is a duo outfit that consists of ON 1 and E-luzhen. Originally from Los Angeles, the pair learned that growing up on the streets of L.A. is a tough life. Gang violence led both ON 1 and E-luzhen's families to up roots and move out of Los Angeles area to more "family friendly" neighborhoods.

ON 1, who's family originates from Guatemala, grew up in Inglewood, CA before relocating after twelve years to the Antelope Valley where he resides today. E-luzhen grew up in a Mexican-American home in the San Fernando Valley, just outside of Los Angeles. When E-luzhen's family moved to the Antelope Valley, the pair met and Kontroversy Committee was formed.

Kontroversy Committee suffered a set back in terms of a group when E-luzhen was suddenly moved back to the San Fernando Valley. As an individial he continued to grind and stir up a buzz that led him to work with artists including Kurupt and Ras Kass. During this time he also came to the attention of Suge Knight, whom we are told, planned to sign the youngster prior to his incarceration that caused the deal to fall through.

Today, Kontroversy Committee is back together as a unit and making music that is turning heads. Far from the typical "Chicano Gangsta Rap" people may expect, Kontroversy Committee are delivering a fusion of Hip-Hop and R&B instrumentals with lyrics littered with creative metaphors and an infectious style.

We have news of Kontroversy Committee's album that is almost ready to hit the streets. "Sounds Like Money" is being unveiled at an Album Release Party (see flyer) on January 18 and, under the label name, A.L.A.N.E. Entertainment (All Latinos Are Not Equal), ON 1 and E-luzhen are ready to be the new representives for the Latino culture.

If you are interested in hearing music from "Sounds Like Money" - that features appearances from Techniec, Young Noble, Chino XL and Crooked I - we urge you to check them out on MySpace where you can download the current singles.

For those of you who can make it to the Album Release Party (see flyer) in Tarzana, CA, you will be treated to performances by Crooked I and Techniec - who will be performing tracks they contribute to on the new album "Sounds Like Money."

The first single "Sensual Seduction" is doing great on the charts, the club remix with Robyn is doing a great job crossing over into other genres, and by recently leaking another track called "Neva Have 2 Worry", tha Doggfather showed that he's giving us his smooth side on this album as well.

A third record from the album has been leaked, it's called "Life Of Da Party", which features Too Short and Mistah FAB!

The song was produced by Scoop DeVille, who brings an up-beat track with a Hyphy touch to it. It's a good look seeing Snoop working with a Bay Area legend and Fabby Davis Jr., who built up a huge buzz for himself throughout the last year. Listen to "Life Of Da Party" below:

1207550162 - January 1, 1970 By : Long featured on Dubcnn [see previous updates], Massachusetts-bred, New York-based rapper Termanology has finally secured a release date for his long awaited, highly anticipated debut album.

"Politics As Usual" is set to drop this Fall 2008 via a joint venture between Termanologys own ST. Records and indy powerhouse Nature Sounds. The record features a who's who of production royalty, with DJ Premier, Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, The Alchemist, Havoc, Buckwild, Nottz and Large Professor providing tracks.

The half-white, half-Puerto Rican MC has come a long way since he released his first 12-inch in 2002. Through his alliance with influential mixtape DJ (and fellow Massachusetts native) Statik Selektah, Term began earning the respect of Boston's hip-hop scene with several highly acclaimed 12" singles.

2006 saw Termanology catch his big break when legendary producer DJ Premier, whom he had met three years earlier, finally blessed him with one of his signature, scratch-laden beats. Watch How It Go Down instantly became an underground classic and Termanology appeared on hip-hop's international radar. The conscious hood anthem garnered the earnest MC tons of praise, landing him in The Source's "Unsigned Hype" and XXL's "Show and Prove" columns. Around this time Dubcnn also caught up with him for an exclusive interview and dropped that track's remix - Watch How It Go Down (Remix) Feat. Papoose & Lil Fame.

Since then, Termanology has quickly climbed the industry ranks with his Hood Politics mixtape series and continued collaborations with DJ Premier - some of those can be downloaded courtesy of Dubcnn here. Term's hard work resulted in a joint venture deal with Brooklyn-based label Nature Sounds, which he signed in late 2007. "I decided to go the indy route to have total control of everything related to my project," Term explains.

Nature Sounds is quickly becoming the indy home for classic hip hop. During the last couple of years the label has released projects by several artists that include hip hop cult icon MF DOOM, Wu-Tang's Masta Killa (Made In Brooklyn), the debut album from Havoc of Mobb Deep (The Kush), most recently, Pete Rock's latest (NY's Finest).

1211224824 - January 1, 1970 By : In the packed confines of clubs around their hometown of Chicago and throughout the world The Cool Kids' irresistible, hooky rhymes and club cramming beats seamlessly bridge the old and new schools of hip hop while assuring them a sure-fire path to world-wide attention. In their short amount of time as a duo The Cool Kids have been featured in Rolling Stone, XXL, The Source, Spin, Paper Magazine, CBS News, The New Yorker, The Fader, and on the cover of The Urb - all without a single release to their name!

Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks met on MySpace in 2005 while Chuck was attending Illinois Art Institute in Chicago and Mikey was still in High School. In August 2006, under a year from their formation, the duo began performing at venues and parties around the city. They grabbed the attention of breakout DJs Flosstradamus, who were responsible for a much-hyped monthly dance night at the Town Hall Pub in Chicago. They invited The Cool Kids to appear and word of their energizing performances spread quickly. In March 2007 The Cool Kids joined Flosstradamus and other Chicago artists for a show at SXSW. Following this performance and an appearance at the WMC in Miami with A-Trak, The Cool Kids began grabbing the attention of national media.

After hosting reviews of several of their mp3s, Pitchfork offered The Cool Kids a coveted spot at the 2007 Pitchfork Festival, where they shared the stage with De La Soul and Clipse. Impressed by their talents, DJ Benzi gave the duo space in a track entitled "Getting It" where the two decidedly hold their own pitted against Lil Wayne, one of the most inventive, competitive, and successful MCs in the world. Their songs "Mikey Rocks" and "88" have been featured in the HBO series Entourage and the game NBA Live08, respectively. The video for the debut single "Black Mags." was featured on MTVu's Freshman Five. They concluded 2007 with a 30-day, sold out tour with M.I.A., bringing their tally of performances to over 150 for that year.

Early on The Cool Kids established their own "Creating Art for Kids Everywhere" recordings - the label under which the duo have written, record, and produced all their own music. Initially, the duo planned to release their own album on C.A.K.E. in July 2007. Due to such tremendous success in such a short period of time the release date was pushed back. "We thought we'd only need to press up a thousand CDs at best," said Mikey. "But when we started getting messages from Sweden, Iceland, France and Germany we knew this may be bigger than we can handle at this stage." Last October The Cool Kids signed a deal with Chocolate Industries. The highly anticipated debut EP "The Bake Sale" is expected early Spring 2008 on C.A.K.E. / Chocolate Industries.

Bosko handles the chorus with his signature talkbox, big shouts out to Bosko for his support, and Roscoe Umali starts off the track with a furious verse. This is a posse track not to sleep on, new West Coast artists like G. Malone and Problem connecting with veterans like Mack 10 and Chino XL.

1214662108 - January 1, 1970 By : A little over a month ago, dubcnn launched the Custom Made "Original Dynasty" remix contest, which gave producers and beat makers the chance to get their shine on. The contest celebrated the release of Los Angeles group Custom Made's latest album release "Original Dynasty", and producers had the chance to remix the title track.

The grand prize for the winner included the winning remix emailed to the entire Babygrande mailing list of over 1 million people, $50 credit at Beatsource.com among other specials.

We'd like to thank the countless producers who submitted their tracks, there was a lot of dope music submitted, but as you know there has to be a winner, and as it was too hard for us to choose one ourselves, we relayed that responsibilty on the artists from Custom Made themselves.

They picked out the winners, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. They explain their decisions in an exclusive video that we have for you, but let us announce the winners first:

1214664706 - January 1, 1970 By : Once again it's time for another edition of dubcnn's Weekend Audio! This week went by so fast it feels like the last Weekend Audio just dropped yesterday, but don't worry we've got enough dope new music for ya'll, as usual! We've got a healthy mix this week, from Chino XL's new single, some new Termanology, to a Juice and Crooked I collaboration.

Let's get things going with a new Chino XL solo track off his album "The Secret". The production was provided by super producer DJ Khalil, you might know the beat from the unreleased Xzibit track "On My Way" which leaked.

The beat was too dope to stay unreleased and Chino definitely did his thing on it, it's called "I'm Coming" and is set to appear on "The Secret", which will be dropping on Machete/Universal Records this summer. Check it out:

We're gonna follow up this high energy track with another one of the same caliber, this time by Black Wall Street rapper Juice on a collaboration with Long Beach's own Crooked I. From what we were told, The Game is also going to record a verse to the final version of the track, but this is what we have for now. The track is called "I Do It" and is a potential album track for Juice's debut solo project. You can also expect to hear Juice on the upcoming "You Know What It Is Vol. 5" mixtape that's coming very soon.

Next up is a track somebody who's been present in most of the Weekend Audio updates so far: Termanology. That only goes to show how tough his grind is, blasting out quality material on a weekly basis. The joint we have for you today is called "Talking To God" and finds Term pondering on current issues going on the Game including Kanye West comparing Soulja Boy to Nas or Puff Daddy putting Lil Wayne on Biggie's level. Let's get to a new mixtape joint by Top Dawg Ent's own K. Dot. Through his "A Milli" remix, he already show us how he can ride a Lil Wayne track, and to further prove his point he's followed it up with another joint over a "Carter 3" beat, the Maestro-produced "3 Peat" intro track to be exact. Born and raised in Moreno Valley, Raje' is giving his fans what they have been waiting for. Moving from the suburbs to the streets after going through problems at home at the age of 16 is where he learned how "real" the world around him was.

"See I was a dreamer, so if I was going to sell weed, I was going to sell it all! If I was getting money from my ladies, I was tryna pimp em for real! But everybody's not built for that, and I couldn't do it. I just believe that some of us are made to accomplish way more," Raje' told Dubcnn.

With over 5 record offers from labels, including So So Def and Universal, Raje' decided that independent was the only way to go with the current climate of the industry. After moving to Los Angeles to join forces with Jazzy D, Raje' found his home with Koch Records.

As expected Crooked I intends to finish the year just as strongly with the just announced release of "Block Obama II" which features a guest appearance by Knoc-Turnal and production by Rick Rock.

It is a series of mini documentaries that explore the bond between community and emcee by following them to the barbershops, BBQ joints, basketball courts, swap meets and schoolyards that produced the artists we admire today. Keys to the City will present a multimedia menu of music videos, mixtapes, albums, photos, playlists, DJ mixes, essays and mini documentaries (like this one in Oakland on Raphael Saadiq)
