I doubt the guy that owns the song even heard the sample until recently.

I wouldnt be surprised if he wasnt the owner of the song when biggie sampled it.

But then the argument that Puff didn't have permission wouldn't hold up since this guy would have nothing to do with that. He would still get royalties but he would need the former owner to get involved to cease it I think. Copyright laws are the trickiest. Some lawyers focus their whole careers studying them.

The ruling also put a halt to radio airplay and downloads of Ready to Die.

is that true because today on my way to work K-Day dropped a track and the DJ was like wait are we allowed to play this and they were like yeah just cant sell it.... so any word to this...??

no it isnt publicity for biggies deuts album.  One of the samples on ready to die wasnt cleared so now its been pulled off the shelves.  I dont see what this has to do with the duets album.  That dropped 3 months ago.

Its sampled in the song "Ready To Die".  And I'm pretty sure it's legit.  It was pretty common back in the day to sample a song and never credit it.

Well if Rod Temperton came out and said Quincy or Sony never opaid for the rights to the song Thriller and Temperton owned it then the album could be pulled off the shelves. (Of course Rod Temperton did sign over the rights if he ever had them to begin with and there is no problem but I'm just saying in theory).

If you check the tank you section at the back of Read To Die you'll see a nice big thank you to Tupac Shakur. New York New York hadn't dropped yet, I don't think. I'm pretty sure the beef hadn't started yet, if memory serves me right.
