Title: Anyone ever been backpacking?

Im going backpacking in January and at first i was just going to do Australia for 6 months, but i got talkin to people at the weekend and there doing a round the world trip for only like 400 pounds dearer than flights 2 Australia from uk......Its like a year long ticket that allows you 12 stops anywhere in the world and im fucking well up 4 it. Do the Americas, Australia, Aisia and Russia....has anyone ever done anything similiar?...Pros and cons? Do's and donts?
