Title: The Roots Pre Grammy Jam Session [Review]
Post by: We Fly High on February 11, 2007, 05:22:22 AM
wow, this is my first time attending their jam session, and ive already decided that i need to go every year for the rest of my life.

so they had a jam session which took place after their show at the gibson amphitheater.

THE FAMILY opened up with some great music for about half hour, and then the Roots hit the stage about 1:30am. It was basically just one big jam session as the title suggested, with the horns/tuba section as well. Wasn't really a structured show or anything. JERZEE MONET was cohost with Black Thought for the night. CHRISETTE MICHELLE came out first, the girl who sings on Lost Ones (jay-z) and that new Nas single. She did an interpretation of If I aint Got You (alicia keys), she sang real well, and damn shes fine. Next, SKILLZ did a "2006 wrap up". TALIB KWELI came out, did "Move Somethin" and "Get By". DAVE CHAPELLE came out to introduce some of the guests. INDIA ARIE also made an apperance and participated in the jam session too with a flute, and sang some songs. and then when India was performing, MATISYAHU came out and started doing his thang. Then the leader singer from FALL OUT BOY jammed with the band and did "Shes a Bad Mama Jama". QUEEN LATIFAH arrived on stage next and did "U.N.I.T.Y'. BROTHER J came out to rep X Clan and did a few tracks. The highlight of the night was ANITA BAKER coming out and jammin with the band along with India Arie. And of course, BLACK THOUGHT joined his band for a couple songs throughout the night, including "Don't Feel Right" with MAIMOUNA YOUSEFF, and "The Seed 2.0".

The best part of all this is that I was very first row, leaning against the stage. so i had a perfect view to watch the entire session.

One of the best shows ive been to. Amazing night. props to Roots and the OKP.

I gotta say I'm fuckin jealous I would kill for a show like that.

They're playing tonight with Lupe Fiasco but I'm gonna miss it :'(
