Title: uncle sams curse vs funk upon a rhyme
Post by: 3331 on March 01, 2007, 04:14:18 PM
your favorite

I always though of the two as like companion albums. I love both although I don't think Funk Upon a Rhyme is half as good as Uncle Sam's Curse personally. Uncle Sam's Curse is like the perfect album. Although the album could never have been nearly as good without Kanes funky ass hooks.

I'm going with Funk Upon A Rhyme... I used to play Don't Bite The Phunk over and over again. Uncle Sam's Curse is dope but I wouldn't call it a perfect album though...

That is another group that really does not get the props and respect they deserve. Their sound was ahead of its time and was as good if not better than Dre's and the whole Death Row/DPG camp at times.

^^ true.

My votes is on Funk Upon a Rhyme. Kane was just way ahead of his age with his deep and prolific lyrics on tracks like "I Need Representation", "My Day Is Coming" and "No Pain No Gain"....plus it was dope to hear a record without all that "shooting niggas" bullcrap...... 8) a classic.

I gotta go with Uncle Sams Curse. That album was a classic to me, more less perfection from top to bottom. Funk Upon A Rhyme was almost as dope but some of those tracks like "Funkinmuffin" were just too experimental and weird...i mean i can appreciate him trying out new sounds but there were just a few tracks that didn't come out dope to me. Matter fact the other day I was reading some reviews of those albums, they got em up at www.westified.com and theyre talkin about exactly what this thread is about, how those albums kinda work like companion pieces.

Funk Upon A Rhyme doesn't have standout joints like Uncle Sam's Curse, and ATL's album is the better all round LP for me.Koka is dope, but at the same time KM.G and Cold 187um (far from lyrical gods) sound REALLY dope over great G-Funk beats (check "Concrete Jungle" - that's my joint right there, "Set Free", "Gangsta Madness"

Metter of fact, Above The Law are one of my favourite west cost groups.

And props for a nice thread  8)

"Set Free" and "Concrete Jungle" are probably my favourite tracks off there as well, they are just smooth and laid-back. 187um did great on those tracks!

But tracks like "Kaliforia" and "Gangsta Madness" are partially so great because Kokane is on there, so you cant really leave him out either.

My favorite tracks would be: Rain Be For Rain Bow, Black Superman, Return of the Real Shit, and Concrete Jungle.

Yeah I personally really liked KMG on Uncle Sam's Curse. I think Kokane did what he did best on Uncle Sam's Curse. Made nasty fuckin hooks. He came pretty nice though on Concrete Jungle, and Who Ryde rapping though. Personally though for a whole album I'd take A.T.L. over Kane. I have to admit though I'd probably throw Above the Law out as my favorite hip hop group so ya'know I might be biased.
