Title: Good memories(Chronic/Doggystyle)
Post by: .: God Is One :. on October 05, 2001, 08:17:27 AM
Tell me all your memories about the releases of theese two albums, U know, how did u think it would sound, the talk on the streets, newspaper articles etc etc

For me it was like this:

It was summer of 93(or 94) and i flipped the channels on the TV (at that time, we had the U.S MTV here in sweden, and not the Scandinavian one)
And i saw the "Whats My Name" video and i was totally blown away, so i took my bike to the city and bought that motherfucker.
Too bad i cant remeber anything like: the promotion of the album, the talk on the streets but i do remember an article i read(after buying the album) about Snoop.
It was about this whole "Stop the Gangsta-Rap" thang and it was on swedish but it was on the second page in one of the biggest newspaper here in Sweden so that shit about "Stop the Gangsta-Rap" just made me listen even more to it.

Peace

I was only 11 when this shit was poppin off.  I was at MU (Tigers) basketball camp summer of 93.  Everbody was in the lobby watching MTV in between their games, and the "Dre Day" video was blowing the fuck up.  All the older guys were running around hollering "Bow Wow Wow Yippee Yo Yippeee Yea", My brother bought me a cd player and the Snoop and Dre album for Christmas, and the rest is history, the shit changed my life.

Well I was V.young back then, was 10 when "doggystyle" dropped, lol. But my bro & my cousin were also mad hh headz & they both copped it so I remember the impact it had at the time on them. I didn't really buy many records back then though, jus' used 2 bump the shit my bro had. I remember they wouldn't let Snoop into this country (UK) aound that time though, lol. But I remember being hook'd on "Ain't No Fun". Same shit happened around the time of "The Chronic", my bro copped that, he was amazed by it. I remember he always used to clown around shouting "Deeez Nuuts" lol.......but he eventually grew outta hip-hop/rap & passed all his shit down to me  ;D

Yeah, well I mean, he don't buy shit anymore, he'll listen to it but he's more into dance an' shit  :P No chance of me growing out of it though, I feel like it's more of a passion than something I jus' have an interest in.

I was like only 5 when Chronic dropped, but the next year, with 36 Chambers and Doggystyle, I have fond memories of being round a much older friend's house listening. By '96, January, I was far more able to think straight bout shit, lol, and that was when I really started getting into it all properly...But Doggystyle I'm sure helped bring round that decision.
