So what do y'all think of this mixtape of DJ Crazy Toones, i was just listening to it, and it really is bangin' hard. Now with all the video's of it poppin' up on internet and a DVD comin' out soon (or already out, i dont know) i thought it'd be a good moment to discuss this (old, but still hot) mixtape.
I think it is the best mixtape from the West ever. As Crazy Toones said it on his mixtape "who can bring the whole West together?" I really love all these different songs and freestyles. Almost all the big players from the West is on this mixtape.
And most of all, he actually DJ's and not just put some tracks together and put some shouting over the tracks.
-
yeah. mixtape was dope as hell. it is probably the best west coast mixtape put out.
-
Yeah, this was a fuckin' crazy mixtape, Toones shitted on all the other mixtapes!!
-
Yeah but it has a total different feel then most "mixtapes".
No hate intended on anyone in particular, since this is the case in most mixtapes (examples are "streetalbums" like Chapter 1: The Rise and N*gger Noize etc.), but like G-Unit Radio. It are just some freestyles all put together with a shouting DJ Whoo Kid all over it and some gunshots over it.
That is clearly NOT a mixtape. And no DJ'ing at all.
Like i said this goes for 99% of the "mixtapes" out. They should call it compilations or unofficial albums or w/e.
On a mixtape a DJ uses lyrics and songs and put them cleverly together and actually uses his DJ skills (scratching etc.) and let's himself be in the center of the tape, no matter what guests.
When i listen to CT Experience, it feels like it is a Crazy Toones mixtape, no matter how many big "stars" he has put on that record. He is involved in the making of every track and you can hear that.
Fuckin' dope mixtape, i say it again lol, best (West) mixtape ever.
I'll post the credits for the people who don't know what im talking about (just 2 reactions :-\).

What's this cover??
-
Yeah i found that interesting as well.
I put this mixtape back on my ipod a few days ago, and i was looking for a cover (i have ipod video which shows the cover) and i found this one as well. It's on many legit sites.
The blue cover was official when the tape came out back in '06 but i don't know. Everyone is talkin' about a DVD from this tape (with all the video's that surfaced on youtube on it) maybe that DVD comes with a CD with the mixtape and has a new cover. Or maybe this is a re-issue or something. I don't know either where that cover comes from, but it's all over the place and it looks official.
-
Nice thread. I agree, easily the greatest west coast mixtape of all time. And the DVD is going to give it nice visuals as well to go along with the music.
-
This mixtape was amazing. Toones deserved WAY more promotion for his hard work. Shit, this should have been in all of the Hip-Hop mags, on more websites, etc. Clearly one of the best West Coast releases (mixtape or otherwise) in a long, long time.
-
Well I mean it's a mixtape, i assume he put it out for his own distribution etc. so the promotion was his part as well i think. Maybe with a few more interviews with big dogs like the XXL or Scource or releasing a few of those video's a lil bit earlier he would have gotten more out of it. I doubt he did it just to be commercially succesful, I read in an interview with DubCC once that he did it to get to the next level for other DJ's, set the standards, cuz he felt like all DJ's weren't really puttin' in work, i think he was right.

I have to admit I never even heard of this. Must have been taking a nap :-\
Where can I buy it? Or is it a free download?

-
it's a actual mixtape. not a 12 year old with a brand new gateway with his aol connection and limewire. this is the real deal
-
best mixtape in a long time

You know what to do. ;)
-
im not really on the whole mixtape scene, but this is the best i own by far.
-
best mixtape i ever heard 8)
-
and nice to see Ren there.
-
Yeah i thought the same thing when i got that mixtape, i didn't hear much about Ren lately, until he popped up on that mixtape.
Anything know what he is up to nowadays? Is he still making music or did he retire or something? I want a new album >:(
-
Strong mixtape and i really like the video of 'G Shit'. Simple but creating that gangsta vibe.
-
Best mixtape ever. I really don't like mixtapes for the same reasons you listed above as they are just really compilations with an irritating DJ screaming over the songs but Toones really killed it with the scratches and intros to each song. I'm ordering the DVD as soon as it is available.
-
Damn, there's some videos already floating around for this?!? Somebody point me in the right direction cuz I haven't seen anything...
But yeah, I don't really even fuck w/ the west coast much anymore. For whatever reason I listened to this and was blown away by how good it was. It's def worth purchasing. Great beats, great features.
I'd say it's def the best mixtape that I've ever listened to.
