- said that at Interscope, the solution to every problem is money (as in a negative way of course)
- talks about how he didnt want the "Fire" record (produced by Dre, feat. Nicole and Buck) on his album, because he the label heads had different interests in the record. Basically said that its a hit record but the qualitys probably not the best (*cough* I Love My Bitch). So label politics.

props to him for standing up like that. Kinda double standards though with the fire track (although ain't heard it). Is it also the label's fault for the rest of the corny pop songs he's made?

I think that tracks like Candy Shop, Amusement Park and Best Friend are definetly soemthing that the label wants him to do. But its not like hes forced though, its 50/50 imo thats why when it comes to Massacre 50 keeps telling how he owerwrte it, basically meaning there are 3,4 filler tracks.
The pressure for a 50 Cent projects is bigger though, you heard what Iovine told him; that he has to cover up the 12 mill lost from last year sales.

but which MAJOR label doesn't force 1 or 2 songs onto an artist's album? only label that i can think of that doesn't force music, that gets there artists play on bet/mtv (which we know 50 won't leave the mainstream) is koch. Maybe 50 will take the unit over to "the graveyard" :D

The problem is that Interscope feels like it needs poppy driven singles. That's why joints like Amusement Park sound so forced, like rehashes of Candy Shop. Instead of pushing their acts to try different things and expand as artists, they want basic formulas and it's all based on making money. That's the way Interscope, Jimmy, etc. are being portrayed and that's why after his contract is fulfilled, 50 will no longer work for them. I can't say I don't agree with his way of thinking. Whether you like the guy or not, you've got to give him credit for feeling the way he does.

I guess that's where I differ from the average "non 50 fan" (aka haters...) I can seperate the dude from his profession. Sans Straight To The Bank I haven't been imprssed with his new flock of songs and Straight to the... didn't knock my socks off; Who knows maybe Fif himself will tire of it, and hold his ground a bit more.
And seriously, he's Fifty, Jimmy is acting as if 50 doesn't know what he's doing; we all know 50 can put out ANYTHING he wants as a first single, and whether it's good or not people will eat it up! He can put bullshit on Mtv, and because "it's 50 Cent on Mtv," by default it will become a hit. Jimmy doesn't seem to realize that.

This is why I fear for Bishop's or Joell's albums on Aftermath. There's no way they'll be allowed to put out credible albums without 'traditional' mainstream appeal.

Don't these record companies now realize that these bullshit pop-rap singles don't sell anymore? shit is played the fuck out...rap/hiphop music needs some type of a resurgence with a different direction...

With pop music as a whole being creatively dead, I can't see that happening. Only thing that could happen to hip-hop now would be for it to back out of the mainstream for the most part, simply because the people won't like it anymore the way it is. Only then hip-hop could emerge creatively and maybe come back strong - I don't know.

But Game is not a priority. They expect him to go 1x plat, they expect 50 to got 12x plat worldwide.

Chris Lighty And WMG Team Up For Brand Asset Group Joint Venture

Violator Management founder and CEO Chris Lighty has teamed up with Warner Music Group (WMG) Corp. to form Brand Asset Group, a new company designed to generate revenue through aggressively managing artist brands from all genres it was announced today (June 13).
Lighty will serve as CEO of Brand Asset Group, while taking an active role in developing product endorsement opportunities and implementing strategic, integrated marketing campaigns with artists, for various Fortune 500 companies.
"WMG is a company full of innovators," Lighty said in a statement. "Together, we can leverage our skills, relationships and our combined strengths in order to benefit the music industry. There are new and significant brand extension opportunities for artists with different companies that have never been contemplated before. We are eager to work together for the mutual benefit of artists, fans, corporate sponsors and WMG."
Lighty will report to Warner Music Group executive vice president Kevin Liles and work closely with executives at Warner Music Group's labels, including The Atlantic Records Group and Warner Bros. Records, in identifying sponsorship and brand extension opportunities for artists.
Warner CEO and Chairman Lyor Cohen said the company seeks to serve artists in all music and entertainment genres and it will include, but not be limited to artists on WMG's labels.
"Music and artists are at the core of everything we do," Cohen said. "Our job is to build an infrastructure that can provide opportunities for artists. Few people in the entertainment industry have been as successful as Chris has been in uniting artists and brands, and we're thrilled that through this new venture, we'll be able to bring Chris' talents and skill to bear on WMG's roster as well as artists from other labels.
Lighty's ability to unite artists and brands makes him a valuable asset for Brand Music Group, according to Warner Music Group executive vice president Kevin Liles.
"Chris' ability to transform artists into successful multimedia brands has made him a true pioneer," Liles said. "Having worked with Chris for years, I'm confident that together we can build Brand Asset Group into another powerful resource for our artists."
Throughout his career, Lighty has become well-known for his ability to link artists with major corporate brands.
His efforts provided new exposure for artists such as LL Cool J, who became one of the first hip hop artists to appear in a commercial for The Gap.
Additionally, Lighty secured major brand commercial opportunities for 50 Cent and vitaminwater, Busta Rhymes with Mountain Dew, A Tribe Called Quest with Sprite, and the Missy Elliot campaign with MAC.
