while seeing a video on media player....like a .mpg file.....is there a way that u can record just the audio and convert it to mp3???

You can use TMpeg to do this.
Download tmpeg from here : http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html
Install and run it, choose File\Mpeg Tools.
Choose the De-multiplex tab.
Click browse, point it at the mpeg video file you want the audio from.
Double click the audio stream, give it a destination path. This will give you a .mp2 compressed audio file. This is a lot like an mp3 file and should work in most situations, search for a conversion util if you have to have .mp3.
