Title: DMX Pleads Guilty
Post by: .:N-Imy:. on July 30, 2001, 04:36:00 AM
(http://www.mtv.com/shared/media/news/images/d/DMX/sq-mic_jacket_ruff_ryders_show-mtv.jpg)DMX's legal problems in New York are finally over.

The rapper pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault and paid a $1,000 fine on Tuesday as prosecutors in Alden, New York, agreed to dismiss charges of contempt of court and assault.

"We're happy this is over," DMX's attorney, Paul Cambria, said Thursday (July 26).

DMX was charged with contempt of court on February 9 after turning himself in more than two weeks late to serve a 13-day jail term for a traffic violation he pleaded guilty to in March 2000. The rapper said he was contractually obligated to be in Los Angeles to promote his movie "Exit Wounds."

The assault charges stemmed from an incident at the Erie County Correctional Facility when the rapper threw a food tray across a room after learning he would be behind bars three more days than expected. The tray allegedly hit an officer.

When DMX was released from jail, he walked with crutches and accused officers there of assaulting him (see "Injured DMX Released From Jail").

Cambria said DMX has filed a notice of claim against the facility and is deciding on whether he will sue them.

"I guess it depends on how much more time he wants to spend in Erie County," Cambria said.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark, who has prosecuted DMX since he was first arrested March 3, 2000 on the Kensington Expressway for traffic violations, driving with a suspended permit and possessing marijuana (see "DMX Arrested On Driving, Drug Possession Charges"), was not available for comment Thursday.

DMX's spokesperson said he is awaiting a comment from the rapper.

At least that DMX free and the legal battle over so he can move on with some other shit. Although I ain't a fan of DMX it's good to see when a rapper is out of jail looking for a fresh start of course some people just rap about their experience in jail but he got find $1000 for throwing a tray accross the room because he found out he was in jail for 3 days xtra and it hit a police officier by accident. Is that hell worth $1000. The is just gonna go to help the cops pay packets.

yea, hitting a cop with a tray is assaulting cop and that should be worth a thousand dollars.. besides its fucking stupid.. besides its not like thats a big expense for DMX, people.. the man is unfortunately a millionaire many many times over (unless his label made him their bitch and gav it to him up hiz arse) so a thou is a token fine for him..

yeah I know $1000 is only a token fine but they only fining him that much because he a millionaire. Also they were suppose to have beat DMX up for hitting the cop so I still think $1000 fine was not needed.
