Title: MTV Doesnt Care About Black People: Another Kanye Tantrum
Post by: es-jay on September 10, 2007, 05:38:53 AM
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Sour grapes from Kanye West — again.

Shut out at the Video Music Awards, Kanye West threw a tantrum Sunday night in front of media and crew backstage as the MTV show was ending.

West, waiting for an elevator in a crowded hallway, began yelling about losing all five categories for which he was nominated.

"That's two years in a row, man ... give a black man a chance," West said, stomping around his entourage and directing his comments at a reporter. "I'm trying hard man, I have the ... number one record, man."

West said he never will return to MTV.

The rapper was nomination for five awards, including male artist of the year. This is the latest in a series of awards show outburst for West. Last year, he crashed the stage at the MTV Europe Awards after not winning for best video.

unrelated, but hilarious: Nelly's $200 White T-Shirt

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nelly was wearing a very expensive white T-shirt as he got ready to hit the red carpet at the MTV Awards Video Music Awards Sunday night.

"It's a two-hundred-dollar white T," Nelly said. "It's got to be the most expensive white T I've ever had in my whole life."

"I'll be sure not to spill anything on it."

Me too. For the shit he calls music, while real artists create real music, to give him this giant head is kind of sad. Maybe if the guy could actually compose music and write lyrics that aren't self indulged and self obsessed nursery rhymes he would understand what real art is, and also understand that these fake awards don't mean much to real artists.

Kanye West Loses It Again, Says He'll 'Never Return To MTV': Report
Rapper is reportedly peeved his VMA performance took place in Palms suite, not on main stage.

By James Montgomery

Kanye West has never been shy about voicing his opinions, especially when it comes to awards shows.

In 2004, he walked out of the American Music Awards, claiming he was "robbed" in the Best New Artist category (see "Usher, Outkast Clean Up; Kanye Strikes Out At American Music Awards"). The following year, he promised hellfire and brimstone if his Late Registration album didn't take home the Grammy for Album of the Year (see "Kanye's At It Again: 'If I Don't Win Album Of The Year I'm Gonna Have A Problem' "). And, perhaps most famously of all, he stormed the stage at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards after losing the award for Video of the Year (see "Kanye Admits To Having Had A 'Sippy Sippy' [Or Two] Before EMA Rant").

And now, well, there's another outburst to add to his highlight reel.

According to several sources backstage at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards — and a report published late Sunday night by The Associated Press — West lost it again, this time because his performance of "Stronger" took place in the Palms' Hugh Hefner Sky Villa and not on the main stage (see "Britney Spears Kicks Off Show, But VMA Night Belongs To Rihanna And Justin Timberlake").

"Kanye was watching the closing performance [a medley featuring Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Nelly Furtado] on a closed-circuit monitor, and he started getting upset," a source who was backstage told MTV News. "He started asking anyone who'd listen why he wasn't allowed to perform on the main stage. 'Why did I perform in just a suite?' he was saying. 'Justin's my boy, but even he gets to perform in both a suite and on the main stage? Something's wrong here.' "

According to a story filed by The Associated Press, West was also upset about being shut out of all five categories he was nominated in (see "MTV VMA Race Is On: Justin Timberlake, Beyonce Lead Nominations"). He reportedly yelled, "That's two years in a row, man ... I'm trying hard, man, I have the ... #1 record, man."

AP also reported that West claimed he would "never return to MTV."

At a pre-VMA concert on Friday, West also expressed his frustration that Britney Spears would be opening the show instead of him, freestyling, "I can't believe she would perform. She hasn't had a hit record in years" (see "Kanye West Tells Crowd At Pre-VMA Concert That He Should Open Big Show, Not Brit"). And according to MTV News' source, he was claiming the same thing during his tirade.

"He said, 'Brit hasn't had a hit in like 5 million years and she opens the show?!?' " the source said.

A spokesperson for West's label, Def Jam, had no comment as of press time.

Yeah his ego is what stops him from winning awards IMO. Should not be about that but that is the only thing I can think of that is stopping him from winning.

I'm  inclined to think that way too about Kanye!!
It's one thing to work hard to go against the grain, but to demand credit for it as he does can go against you, and make all the hard effort he has put in a waste of time!!

Dude has talent, but it appeasr his talent is matched by his expanding eGo as well!!

Just imagine if he actually won that award,it will be non-stop EGo..crap from Him!!

He is immature. You don't go about demanding awards and throwing tantrums like a little kid. You can't demand accolades. It is always voted on by selected people. Sometimes the people that are supposed to win do, other times they don't. He should just let his music speak for itself instead of running his mouth all the time.

Someone show me where I said that Public Enemy didn't sample, or that hip hop was supposed to be with out samples.

Don't bother because I never said that. Just another case of stupid assumptions and conclusion jumping.

Kanye sucks because Kanye sucks. To compare his studio musician played looping with the sampling collages of the Bomb Squad is in itself stupid. Kanye praises himself as a genius, on production more so than rapping, but his rapping sucks too. His production is just run of the mill gloss with catchy loops of previously catchy pieces of music. His rapping is just a bunch of garbage about how good he is or how hard he worked to get so good.

Chuck D is a fucking monster on the mic, from lyrics, to delivery, to emotion, to rhythm, to whatever else you want to think of. Just like I can think someone sucks I can think what hip hop is supposed to sound like. And I think it's supposed to sound like hard in your face attitude that takes no prisoners, requires an aquired taste, and a desire to be free. Kanye doesn't do any of that. Chuck D did it in '87 and he's still doing it in '07. The epitome of Rock and Roll.

Attempting to compare PE and Kanye is disgusting.

Kanye=crybaby, horrible rapper, overrated producer, and ostentatious fag, among other things.

Chuck D=intelligent being, good rapper, trend setter, motivational speaker, and down to earth person, among other things.

These two are not even close to being in the same category, as artists or otherwise.

I'm glad Kanye lost again.  It's good to see him making an ass out of himself annually.

imo every song on kanyes new album is better than that song, and i dont even like kanye west that much :-\

imo you don't know the first thing about rap.

Agreed shadow...

wtf kanye is an AWEFUL "emcee" or rapper whatever you want to label him. I'll take him as a producer any day, but for fuck sakes....he's cant spit anything nice. Atleast when comparing to chuck d....or in general really.

I like Kanye.  I think he's contributed a lot to Hip Hop these days.  I do think some of his samples are way too easy, ie uses songs / breaks that are too recognizeable.   But he's def made some joints over the last 5 years that I fuckin love and bump the shit out of.  I respect him for rapping and producing, for not being afraid to be himself, and for being one of the most creative mainstream acts today.

As for Public Enemy, anybody that says anything negative about those dudes needs to check themselves.  They're teflon, untouchable.  Revolutionary.

Man flavor flav is ridiculous, that's the first note to take from that clip. How can a nearly 50 year-old, sane person ... ah, fuck it. And stop saying HipHop is Rock and Roll, it annoys me.

Stop implying that it's not Rock and Roll and I'll stop saying it.

When someone can explan to me why Evlis Presley's Sun Sessions, The Beatles' Sgt. Peppers, Jim Hendrix's Are You Experienced, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks, Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run, Van Halen's 1984, Guns n Roses Appetite For Destruction, Nirvana's Nevermind, and The Hold Steady's Boys and Girls in America can all be considered Rock and Roll but Fear of a Black Planet cannot I'll stop saying rap is rock and roll.

On one hand i respect the fact tha he's mad he dint win because obviously he felt he put in a lot of work and he should be reawrded. I can appreciate that being a artist myself and i appreciate the fact that he cares in a era were it seems none of these artists/rappers do.

On another hand he says fuck this pop shit well Kanye is part of the pop scene wich is short for popular culture, he's part of it and damn he helped create the scene/look hip hop's got going on right now, the mtv look.

He also need to stop with the black stuff.

Yeah but would any real artist care about awards in general, particularly terrible awards? The Oscar's still have some credibility left but everything from the Grammys down are plagued with garbage choices. If I was a modern popular artist I'd feel better if I didn't win the Grammy,MTV award, etc.

Gargabe or not, at some stage any artist who works hard and wants to acknowledgment will at some point in their career like to win an acolade..That's The way it is!!
If there was no prize, what will be the zeal, or the motivation??
You can't keep making music cuz u feel like it..the initial energy that propell the said artis to get into that kind of businss, will sizzle out at some point, futhermore at some stage, every person/artist/rapper is looking at the end of today to make a profit, be in financially or accepting an award..
I understand where you are coming from, but IMO wininng an award is the ultimate goal for every artist along with making music & keeping their fans happy!!

I'm not going to pretend I know why artists become artists. I'm sure it can be very different for one than it is for another. But many artists do hate the awards and want nothing to do with them. Others just don't care much. Marlon Brando didn't even accept his second Oscar. George C Scott turned down his 1961 nomination, and in 70 when he won he said he didn't want it because he's not in competition with other actors and he called the wards show a "meat parade". Some artists just love the art.

Well You Are Right about Awards gearing artist against themselves, but a little competition someetiems brings the best out of Pple, allbeit not the best possible way of course, they are exceptions to the rule though!!!

But on that note, props on the info about Mr Brando & C Scott , i had no idea!!
Damn those Folks, most have loved the art, and not the fame!!
Alas, not everybody can be that way, but Props On This Education Man!!

I don't disagree with that. Trying your hardest to make an album better than the other guy can often make your album a lot better than it would have been. But doing it for somehting like the Grammy, or even worse the MTV award, I think will make the album worse than it would have been. Grammy's and MTV awards have a history of over lookiing what is the better album and pick the more popular album. So when an artist makes an album for the grammy he or she may be too preoccupied with trying to make a hit or cater to what the Grammy people might like that the artist may throw aside what they think is the best decision for the song and replace it with what is the best decision for the market.
