Title: sound system help
Post by: Dubz on September 12, 2007, 08:36:55 PM
whats up everyone, i nearly blew out my stock shit in my camry the other day because theyre kinda weak, so im thinkin i wanna load up my ride with a tight system, but to be honest i have no idea what to get. im thinkin some woofs and an amp, but again, i dont know what kind i should get, much less if thats what i should get.

so for any car heads on here, could you please recommend me what actual components i should be gettin, as well as brands/models that are quality but not too expensive? much appreciated. props and peace.

Take into consideration your budget. How much you're willing to spend will determine the quality of each components' reproduction capability. If you don't plan carefully you may as well throw an old boom box in your back seat and use that.

Frankly I'm not going to outright recommend anything because you haven't specified what kind of music you're using it for primarily (although I'm assuming Hip Hop / Rap). I will however say to avoid any offerings from Sony.

Speaker enclosures are another issue. Some are designed to produce a much harder thump and rattle although I'd personally avoid those because those characteristics just aren't part of the original tracks themselves. Speak to a few sales reps in your areas and have them assist you.

Really sound quality here is the top concern so don't get caught up in having the latest great thing. However, don't skimp on MP3 and iPod support as many won't want a complete system that can't accommodates those sort of conveniences.

Have a look at these links, they give a basic run down of what to expect:

yeah like dude said take into account what kind of music you're going to be playing. i mostly listen to metal and rock so i don't need 15 or 12 inch subs....10 inch is FINE (i'm even stretching it with 2) also rock music needs  ALOT of highs as apposed to the lows of subs....so you really dont' need to go all out and buy p3 punch subs like i did  if you're going to be playing mostly rock music.

however if you're going to be listening to mostly rap, you need a good set of subs to compliment your lows. also if you're going to want to look into some point sources , where it's a mid and tweeter together.

my system , IMO, works well because when i put my ipod on shuffle it is easy to adjust the setting is have the option on my deck to up my mids or highs  turn down my lows  and visa versa.

1. get a motorcycle (street bike preferably)
2. get a ipod (30 gig is enough)
3. upload it with dipset, immortal tecnique, pac, papoose, ice cube, eazy e, just to name a few. (other good artists)
4. get a pair of headphones with a long wire. (they have to be ear piece ones)
5. get a long sleeve shirt. (preferably a dark color)
6. get one of those ipod holders that straps to your bicep.
7. put the ipod in the holder strap it to your arm, put on your long sleeve shirt, and go live life

ya dig?
