T.I. clearly. Scarface is the greatest rapper of all time in the south, but even he said Tip is the king. Shit, I can make one LONG ass list of ppl that have said T.I is the king (Face, Trick Daddy, Young Buck, Pimp C, Bun B, Outkast, Lil Scrappy and it just keeps going). Plus the 1 guy who really called out T.I. on it got his music career ended (flip).

If you define "king" as who gets the most Clear Channel radio spins and Viacom owned BET / MTV vids, and who appeals to the teeny bop crowd of 106 & Park then I'd agree with you.

If you define it based on talent, originality, inherent musical genius, and innovation I'd say that mentioning TI is laughable.

i ain't gon argue with u no more. u got ur opinion, i got mine.
all i'm sayin is that even among artists when it has been asked T.I. is the usually the answer when ppl ask bout the KOTS. Even scarface said that shit.

But you didn't answer my question - What do YOU base the "king" title on?

You gotta understand when you keep mentioning Face saying that.  I seriously doubt Face sits in his house and bumps big thangs poppin over and over again.  He prolly sees him as a young black man that is having success, which he's going to support regardless.  Also, alot of these rappers saying TI is king see his sales and want a piece of that pie.  They're not going to potentially alienate any TI fan that could potentially buy their cd as well.  It's all about business.

My vote went to Bun B, because hes my favorite rapper in the south and hes just as dope to me now as he was when i first heard UGK.Face is dope but i enjoy listening to bun a lil more.I also think face deserves the "Oficiall King of the South" title.

I can see the TI argument. He has been putting in work the past 3-4 years and he has gotten steadily better. Face although he has not put out albums recently at the pace a TI has or a Ludacris, he has been doing this music thing for a LONG LONG TIME. Basically took a hiatus and put out a album that shits on 90% of the music out there. And alot of people also think he is still the king. TI said it and has put in the work, Face lets the fans be the judge of that, he does not search for that title. Ludacris has also put in work.

Ludacris should most def. be a contender 4 the title

watch the Beef 3 DVD, T.I. answers you're question perfectly.

I actually would bet that Face heard trap muzik & really liked that album. Face & Tip are homies, that's well known. That is probably why he said it. As you know I am a huge T.I. fan, and could give a fuck if Scrappy says he's the king of the south. No way i'd cop his album off that alone, and if anyone would do that, they deserve to be certified mildly retarded.

So I have to watch the Beef 3 DVD to get YOUR opinion?  How about you explain it for yourself instead of relying on TI to do the thinking for you.  You're completely missing the point.

What is your definition of "King" (for the 3rd time now)

'Face is the King of the South like Rakim is the King of NY. In 1991, I'd agree, but it's 2007, and in a week and a half 2008, get over it. TI is the king, Bun B is close, Luda is the closest, and Andre and Big Boi might actually be the top team, but TI is the King. The only platinum rapper from the South, and I'd say the most relevent. So I go TI.

I would say right now it is TI, but if Scarface starts doing the music thing full time again then I would give the edge to him. Kind of like if Ice Cube drops another solid record I start putting him back in convo with KOTW imo.

You can't deny the fact that TI has been putting in MAD work on the music tip. Whether people feel Luda or Face or whoever is a better rapper, you can argue that all day but very similar to how Jay-Z said he was the King of NY, TI said and at the least is doing something about it.

that's you're opinion, but T.I. ain't really "new". 5 albums deep with a 6 on the way already, is not a "new" artist. Shit, Face only has 8 solos that HE released. If it wasn't for the all b.s releases they'd be close in number of solo discs. But Face IS the greatest ever from the south. Like someone said though, he's not active enough as of right now to be called "the king of the south" in 2007.

I don't care how much albums they have released, but I do know that Scarface has been around a lot longer than T.I. and paved a way for T.I.

A real life king is usually king for the biggest part of his life. Having that in mind, for me Scarface has the crown.

Not necessarily. All that really means is that Face is the greatest KING of all time, but T.I. is currently holding the crown. Doesn't mean he is a "better" king than face was. But then again this whole "king" talk was never mentioned by anyone until T.I. said he was. And when he said, nobody really called em out on it, therefore making him King in a lot of ppl's minds.

How do u define relevant? If thats based on album sales then you might as well still consider MC Hammer the King of the West, i'm almost certain he still has the highest selling album for a westcoast artist. If your talking the combination of lyricist, entrepreneur, album sales, outright talent, and(excluding Scarface-who took himself out of the running) longevity TI can't even see Ludacris. And I am someone who didn't even like Luda when he came out.

Let's face the facts here.  Scarface has been around since the 80s.  He's not only THE pioneer of Southern hip-hop (along with the rest of The Geto Boys,) he's one of the pioneers of hip-hop, period.  T.I. comes from the next generation of rappers.  There's no way he will ever take the place of an OG like Scarface, whether or not he "claimed" king status.  Face didn't claim it probably because he doesn't give a fuck.  He knows he's the shit, so why bother making claims like that?  That covers the status aspect.

Lyrically, no one from the South is fucking with Face.  In fact, I'd dare say he's still one of the best lyricists out there in all of hip-hop.  Factor in all of the classic albums he's made over the years, and the impact he's had on hip-hop, and he's one of the greatest rappers of all time.  Do you think T.I. will ever be considered a legend like Face is now?  I don't.  I think T.I. is tight, but he's not on the same level as someone like Scarface.

I'd also mention Jermaine Dupri as a "King of the South."

I don't agree. If you look at T.I. he has released nearly as much albums as Scarface and all of T.I.'s albums were classics, as opposed to Scarface who has good albums, but they're not all classics. Let's get the facts straight here: if any rapper doesn't get the credit he deserves it's T.I.

i cant believe there is even a debate on this.

Clearly scarface is the king, its irrelevant who has been the most active or sold the most.

Its all down to quality , which scarface easily surpasses people like TI.

Ludas one of the few new southern acts thats seen as lyrically powerful as an east coast rapper but got as much swagger as a west/southern artist.

That's a very good point, didn't even realize that

Cube altogether has probably the most classics: Straight Outta Compton, AMeriKKKas Most Wanted, Death Certificate and Bow Down (Predator and Lethal Injection were pretty crazy as well.)

bty y'all, T.I. is the only southern rapper platinum in 2007. Luda  & Jeezy didn't release discs this year.

Scarfaces album takes a nasty shit all over TI's album this year.  Scarface wins.
