Title: Alright, School Me.......Who Is "Pacific Division"?
Post by: 187Proof on December 31, 2007, 04:30:09 PM
I hear peeps talkin about em alot, saying that they have a lot of hot stuff, and now I see that they're nominated in the "Next Up From Cali" category, but I've never heard their work. Could anyone upload one or two of their songs that may turn me into a fan of their's? I wanna see what they can do. Thanks!

Glad you asked 187.

Pacific Division, in my opinion, the most talented group to come out the west in a long time. You've probably read a bunch of the other threads that I have talked about them in before. But heres some info on them...

three cats outta LA, like around the 21-24 year old age range.. Like, Mibbs & BeYoung. They can rap their asses off, and they're not on the gangster tip, and nor are they backpackers, They are rappers that common people can actually relate to... I believe that quality is what is going to make them the most accessible and successful. They also have an inhouse producer by the name of Swiff D; hes done tracks for DPG, Nas, Snoop, Redman, Bobby Valentino, Murs, Rick Ross, Bad Lucc etc.

They released the Sealed for Freshness Blend Tape about 2 years back (Rud posted the link up top), where they re-did a bunch of classic tracks (Pharcyde, ATCQ, B.I.G., etc), and added their own original songs as well. Usually that kind of stuff doesnt really move me, but PD flipped the tracks in such a unique manner, and in a way, made it their own. The Blend Tape has been in steady rotation for me for the past 2 years since i started paying attn to them. It's a real quality cd, and considering that its a "mixtape", its easily one of the best ive heard, and is better than most rap albums out. Pls download it and take a listen, I'm sure you'll like it.

Their debut CD, "F.A.T. Boys" LP should be coming out around April, May 08. You can check out some of their songs at http://myspace.com/pacificdivisionmusic . The song "Taste" featured on their music player, is produced by DJ Khalil, and is some of the hottest shit hes produced, and also features Exile on the cuts. "F.A.T. Boys" is their first street single, produced by Swiff D, and the video should be coming out soon for that.

Anyways, as of this point, they are the hottest group yet to come out of CA. And I dont mean internet hype either. This is some real buzz going on.
?uestlove of The Roots endorsed PD; called them and spent 15 minutes just praising PD. Just recently within a few the past few months, I was on the phone with Pharrell and Like (PD) and Pharrell was calling Pac Division the next Pharcyde, and was lovin their music. DJ Khalil knows about them and had to get down on the project, several of his beats are used on the F.A.T. LP, including "Taste". 9th Wonder just hit them up, also asking how he could get down with their music. All four of those aforementioned artists are all very well respected with the hip hop music community, and having that sort of community support, you can't go wrong. They also just had a segment on the World Famous Wake Up Show with Sway/King Tech/DJ Revolution. Now thats some real hip hop shit.

Additionally, these guys do shows like no other. In 2007 they did around 35-40 shows in/around Los Angeles. They've done shows with the Clipse, Blu, Slum Village, Lupe Fiasco, Evidence, MF Doom, Sa-Ra, and numerous others. They got incredible stage presence, and actually know how to perform. After seeing so many concerts in my life, I can tell you that most rappers suck at putting on a "show". I also can't say that I've seen too many of these other west coast rappers ever on concert bills/flyers in Hollywood/LA.

Anyways, heres an EPK video of theirs which kinda gives you an idea of what they're all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JtiqNrIRv8
