Title: Would You Say You Got A Broad Hip-Hop "Mind"?
Post by: K.Dub on January 10, 2008, 05:45:46 PM
Some "heads" are just into that gangsta shit, some just underground and some are into many types of rap.

Would You Say You Got A Broad Hip-Hop "Mind"?

..I would.

I like everything from straight West Coast gangsta rap like Crooked I, Pac, Snoop, Yukmouth and so on to "emo-rap" with likes of Atmosphere via down south acts like UGK, Ludacris, Lil' Wayne, Chamillionaire, Three 6 Mafia, Jeezy, Lil' Keke, Jody Breeze, CunninLynguists and Devin and NYC's Papoose, Ghostface, DipSet, Tonedeff, Immortal Technique, Tonedeff, Quan and other East Coast cats like Redman, Jedi Mind Tricks/Army of the Pharaohs. Let's not forget the Midwest - Tech N9ne, Common, Krayzie Bone and Kanye
As for European - I don't listen to it as much as American, but of course I listen to some Norwegian rapacts u've never even heard about. lol.

Lately I've been startin to dig into the underground of the West Coast - Blu & Exile, Evidence/Dilated Peoples, Pep Love/Hieroglyphics, Murs are all dope!
Speak your mind.

i'm definently not a dick rider like 90% of dubcc westcoast section

Very well said, the same with me. I'm tired of the whole westcoast section full with 15 years old riding DPG/Crooked I dick, and others living like it's still the 90's asking totally irrellevant questions about Death Row etc...

I've got a pretty broad Hip Hop mind, listening from West Coast music (including a lot of indy music from the Bay) to The Dirty Dirty... Don't listen to a lot of East Coast stuff, but still got mad respect for what many cats are doing...

I gotta admit nowadays my hip hop taste is defintely leaning more towards the more commercial stuff (except everything G-Unit or Shady affiliated) but it´s not just hip hop for me, besides alotta Death Row stuff albums like Brotha Lynch´s Loaded, Britney´s Blackout, Rep Yo Set, Mariah´s Emancipation Of Mimi or Motown Greatest Hits can be found on my iPod as wel as some dancehall and reggaeton.

[honesty mode]I've always been a narrow minded fucker when it comes to hip-hop, and it's only getting worse. I don't really like a lot of hip-hop at all anymore, and I don't check for most of it. I'll be surprised if an album worthy of listening comes out.[/honesty mode]

Yeah, I'm broad minded as hell! Whether it's bebop, classic rock, acid jazz, folk, classical, nederpop; I'm down.

Doesn't mean you have to pick out single artists in your library posted for the whiners who complain about an artist or two, or THREE in this case have to point out and complain about. The main point what True Knowledge posted is his library contains a vast majority of hip hop which is on the broad point of things.

I'm musically as diverse as anyone I know.  I don't like to categorize music too much, I always say there's only 2 kinds of music - good & bad.

^^Kriss Kross ain't bad man, I've found myself liking a bunch of stuff from all of their albums

I used to listen only to west coast rap, dre, snoop, cube, nwa, above the law, king tee, alkaholiks, spice 1, ant banks e-a-ski... (and still listen to them often), south stuff like geto boys scarface outkast ugk...

But then main source, reflection eternal, kool g rap & nas showed me the diversity of east coast rap and I was hooked. From then I check mostly east coast shit, old school and albums from the 90's, I rarely bump something that's new (not triyng to imply there's nothing new worth listening to, I'm just more interested in hearing the older stuff first.

showbiz & ag, lord finesse, big l, main source, kool g rap, big daddy kane, heavy d, pete rock & cl smooth, camp lo, tribe called quest, akinyele, AZ, big pun, brand nubian, busta (I've practically grown up with the singles from his albums, always been a fan) & leaders of the new school, epmd, ed o.g, biggie, 50...

I could go on and on
