Brooklyn rap group M.O.P. is searching for a new label home, as they prepare to leave 50 Cent's G-Unit imprint, the group's manager Laze Elliot told AllHipHop.com.
"As soon as I lock down the new situation, it will be official," Laze told AllHipHop.com, adding that the terms were definitely “amicable.”
While M.O.P.'s three year stint on G-Unit did not yield an album, the group benefited greatly from the situation, according to their longtime manager.
"The great thing about the G-Unit deal is that it cleared all the debts the group carried over the years," Laze explained. "So we are starting basically from scratch."
Comprised of Billy Danze and Lil' Fame, M.O.P. has yet to attain the commercial success that would match the loyal fan following they've garnered since their 1994 debut To The Death.
Their most successful album to date was Warriorz, released in 2000 on Loud Records. Despite the popularity of two singles from that album, "Ante Up," and "Cold As Ice," Warriorz has yet to break the 500,000 records sold mark.
The group was briefly signed to Roc-A-Fella Records before Dame Dash's departure and has remained ever present on the mixtape scene, despite several label changes since Loud Records folded in 2002.
M.O.P.'s most recent album was 2005's independently released M.O.P. Salutes The Marxmen on their own Family First imprint, which is distributed by Koch.
As recently as July of last year, Billy Danze was quoted as saying that their G-Unit debut was due in October of 2007. "I think [if we] would have got our record out earlier, that would have set a clear quality precedent," said Laze. " All the aesthetic issues would have been solved and we'd be on the second album by now. I knew we were going to have problems though, because 50 needed the group to be in a certain space in order for him to co-sign it.
"He didn't feel Fame was in that space physically or mentally," Laze continued. “He shouldn't have to [understand Fame], but there are many talented artists in history that you don't know where their talent comes from."
Creative differences aside, Laze maintains that there is absolutely no animosity between the two camps. "50 has been good about letting us move on," Laze stated. "I still believe that we would work together. The relationship is much better from a creative standpoint."

I did NOT see that one coming :D
50 needs to drop everybody anyways and just keep the core of G-Unit like back in the days. Olivia and M.O.P. already went away, Hot Rod must follow. Mobb Deep might stay, they seem to have a good relationship and chemistry on the mic.
Anyways, let's hope we get that MO.P. album a.s.a.p. now, Premo apparantley did a few cuts on the album.

Take the money and run... 8)

Seriously, after all the flops G-Unit has put out and the lukewarm response to "Curtis", does anyone here believe that anyone on G-Unit besides 50 will ever put out an album again?
Hip-hop is sinking, and G-Unit is the first major casualty of the recession.
-
I hope those brothers get payed out of the frame in this game, they been reppin that gully, sick street type of piff over, basement, sicktrumentals from day one, keeping the customers feeding for that shit, I just hope they link Premo for there next album aswell, an put 'Police In Helicopter' on it too, that tune was sick, truss, classic street shit

after the second year of not dropping an album, they should have realized they made a mistake. MOP keeps getting screwed, I don't see them dropping anything anytime soon (unless its on Koch)

Either that or fuck with Steve Rifkind again...

Lol, this wasn't really surprising though.. Signing to 50 was a bad move at the beginning - music wise.

Haha, they just leeched on 50 ! ;D

How do you know that ? Judging from the 2 tracks they did - When Death Becomes You and Big Boy Game - they had good chemistry.

Where's the album?
-
I don't know, I don't think anyone was expecting an album from them since they singed to Interscope and MO.P. ain't really a group that listents to those big CEOs. 50 said he wanted to put their album out but with the right set up and apparantley Fame wasn't completley focused on that. I don't know how much truth there is to that but Billy has said in a few interviews that Fame did have som personal issues (not againts 50, just some personal shit).
What I'm saying is that you said music wise; they did 2 tracks and both of them were dope. If they sucked then I would say that they didn't have good chemistry. But music wise, as you put it, we can only judge those 2 tracks.

I see what you're saying, but I expected an MOP album on G-Unit though. I always expect new albums when rappers/groups signed to new labels.
Can u up those tracks if u got them? I haven't heard them.

They did a lot fo great things on G-Unit records, like appear in 50 Cent videos and be his cheerleader.

Good move but I wanted to hear 50 and Banks spit some hardcore shit over some Fizzy Womack beats.

Good luck to them, when death becomes you is a great track.
