Title: Old Age
Post by: when it rains it pours on February 19, 2008, 11:49:07 PM
what do you guys think of geriatric people? we will most likely be one.
i feel bad for most old people, that cant dress, feed, or go to the restroom themselves. and all the health problems that come along with being of such age.
now as a young man i would rather pass suddenly at a time before i reach those stages.
today i was at the barber shop, and an old women in her 80s came in, she was using a walker, had an hearing aide, think glasses, and suddenly started throwing up while getting her hair washed, and when she stoped she was kind of lost, (possible dementia).  looking at her suffer like that made me think about my future and how i can end up like that. just some thing to think about.
your thoughts?

As long as I'm healthy and made a contribution or two to society, then I wouldn't mind living a lengthy, fulfilling life. I hope I live until the day I can see my kids, grandkids, and great grandkids living if possible.

If I get to the point to where I shit my pants, then toss my old ass out a window.

i feel you, i think the same, i wanna live until the age where my health is at a humane standard, to where i have dignity.

I want to live as long as I possibly can.   There's no coming back, I'd rather be here incapacitated than not here at all.  The good thing about all this and the reason I don't worry about it is there's only so much you can do to change whatever will come.  You can save money so you'll have a financially stable retirement, you can buy long term care insurance, and you can try to take care of your body.  Outside of that, the lord's going to give you what he sees fit.  Look @ Ronald Reagan.  A great man, had 80 years of incredible wealth, success, and love... was the most powerful man in the world, and had charisma and charm like any actor that's ever lived, had a woman who loved him unconditionally... and in the end, the lord took his mind away and he didn't even recognize her nearly the last 10 years of his life.  Even Worse, look what Nancy had to go through.  If it can happen to him, it can happen to you.

Some people already enjoy living in a state of drunkenness or being faded. The discomforts of old age should be like paradise to them.

It's hard to draw a line as til what point life is worth living. I guess there'll simply be a point when the joys no longer live up to the pain and effort. That's when it's time to get out, because you'll be too old to turn the pain into something useful.

I'll save some money to hire an assassin to kill me when I'm like 80. That is in the depressing off-chance that my unhealthy life-style hasn't got the best of me by then.

^ Isn't that just the problem - that your unhealthy lifestyle will take the best of you, leaving only the worst in you to rot? :D

Being sober all the time is not much better than rotting to me. I've tried it and it wasn't working at all. I really want those 2 weeks back. There is nothing positive about living purposely healthy to me.

After age 80, people should not be allowed to live.  It is not what Allah intended.  Before the past 50 years or so, people used to drop dead from strokes and heart attacks before they turned 70, but modern medicine is ruining Allah's plans.  In my Pan-African Socialist Republic, there will be cleansing squads to wipe out anyone over age 80, as well as those with any form of dementia or anything which saps the resources of the state.  Come to think of it, I guess autistic people should probably be killed as well.  No tolerance.
