Title: Top 10 Most Dangerous Dog Breeds
Post by: Mackin on March 12, 2008, 11:02:35 AM
22 reported dog bite related human fatalities in the United States in 2004.
2005 - 29 human fatalities.
2006 - 26.
In 2007, there were 33 human fatalities. 45% of the attacks occurred to adults over the age of 18, and 55% occurred to ages below. Pit bull type dogs were responsible for 67% of fatalities, the next closest breed was the rottweiler at 12%. But all dog breeds are potentially dangerous. In 2000, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that 25 breeds of dogs were involved in 238 fatal dog bites from 1979-1998. Here it is the compiled list of the most dangerous dog breeds:

1. Pit Bulls (Weight: 55-65 lbs. Origin: The USA)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Pit-Bulls-10.jpg)

Pit BullsPit bull is one of the most brave and dauntless dogs that usually takes on any opponent. Therefore they take part in dog fighting. It is common knowledge that this dog breed can even mangle the human to death as pit bull locks its jaws onto the body until it is dead.

2. Rottweilers (Weight: 100-130 lbs. Origin: Germany)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Rottweilers-9.jpg)

RottweilersDue to their intense territorial instinct these dogs are very aggressive. Rottweilers are commonly used as guard dogs.

3. German Shepherds
(Weight: 70-100 lbs. Origin: Germany)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/German-Shepherds-8.jpg)
German ShepherdsThis breed of dogs is known as a smart and vigilant one. As German Shepherds proved to be confident and fearless local authorities such as the police K-9 unit use German Shepherds as a police dog.

4. Huskies (Weight: 44-66 lbs. Origin: Alaska )(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Huskies-7.jpg)

HuskiesDespite of their energy and intelligence this breed is not regarded a good guard dog. It is caused by its kind temperament and personality characteristics. However it should be marked that between 1979 and 1997 fifteen fatal cases were caused by huskies.

5. Alaskan Malamutes
(Weight: 75-100 lbs. Origin: Nordic)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Alaskan-Malamutes-6.jpg)

Alaskan MalamutesThis breed requires a lot of exercises to be happy as being bored they become disobedient. On the whole their characteristic features are energy and activity.

6. Doberman Pinschers
(Weight: 65-90 lbs. Origin: Germany)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Doberman-Pinschers-5.jpg)

Doberman PinschersDoberman Pinschers are famed by such features as alertness, intelligence and loyalty. Therefore they are considered to be one of the best guard dog breeds. The dog usually attacks only in case its family is in danger or when being provoked.

7. Chow Chow (Weight: 50-70 lbs. Origin: China)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Chow-Chow-4.jpg)

Chow ChowThe Chow Chow seems to be distant and independent, however they require staunch attention. If badly bred they can become aggressive dogs.

8. Presa Canario ( Weight: 80-115 lbs. Origin: Canary Islands)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Presa-Canario-3.jpg)

Presa CanarioIt is well known that an attack of this guard dog can bring to the death any prey. One of the main features of this dog is fearlessness, huge power and man-stopping ability.

9. Boxer (Weight: 50-70 lbs. Origin: Germany)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Boxer-Dog-2.jpg)

BoxerThese dogs are intelligent, frisky and full of energy. It is not so easy to train them as they are self-willed breed. In addition, boxers are not typically aggressive by nature.

10. Dalmatian
(Weight: 40-70 lbs. Origin: Yugoslavia)(http://www.dogs-names.net/dog-pictures/Dalmatian-1.jpg)

DalmatianThis breed is distinguished by intelligence and perfect memory, independence and survival instincts. Sometimes Dalmatians can be aggressive towards people.
- For each US dog bite fatality there are about 670 hospitalizations and 16,000 emergency room visits, 21,000 other medical visits (office and clinic), and 187,000 non-medically treated bites
- 46.1% (nearly half) of dog bite injuries were triaged in emergency rooms as "urgent-emergent"
- Dog bites are the second highest reason why children seek emergency treatment

That's about 60,000 bites per fatality and that information is dated. It is reported today that a US citizen is bitten by a dog every 75 second

Ma Fave has to be The German Shepard,Rott then The Doberman

I wouldn't have guessed chows

Chows are very independent, so it's easier for them to turn on their master.

Dalmatians I can see because when the movie came out people bought them like crazy, most more than likely not experience dog owners. Dude, just getting a dog because your kids want one is dangerous if you have no idea what you are doing. So just because of their popularity, Dalmatian's numbers of attacks could go up.

the chow should be up there more. we had a neighbor that had one and it was fuckin vicious.  i once had a Dog that was Black Lab, Rott, and German Shepherd....that was the coolest dog ever. he use to get out alllllll the time and he'd fuckin' kill everything in our alley, including our old neighbors pits, we had to put him sleep though because he was deemed a danger to society. man i'll miss Duke :'( http://www.youtube.com/v/QS3rher4_2E&hl=en&autoplay=0

I had an Akita/Pit Bull mix, you talk about the worst of both world, that girl was THAT BITCH. She would run any dog out her area and she was so fuckin' smart. But man, she layed the smackdown on dogs, and we eventually had to give her up when she almost killed a puppy to get back at our other dog. I was so sad.

My coworker breeds pits and his 5 year old daughter has been around them her whole life with absolutely no incident. Ironically, she was bitten by her grandparents' yellow lab, a dog that is notoriously obedient and family oriented.

no matter the dog, once it's raised right you are all good, if the dog is negleted, then you'll have issues. The main thing is that Pits are built to kill, so if you raise a Pit to be mean, that dogs going to be a problem. The weakest dog, the pug, can be mean if raised improper. A Pit can be a great family dog if you treat them right, they are very loyal dogs, and have a lower chance of turning that independent dogs like the Chow.

I know it's how the dogs are raised as I have one of my own. Neither the pits or the lab were raised to be dangerous. Actually, the pits had quite extensive obedience training and the lab has been around kids all it's life. Sometimes that's just the way the ball bounces.

Pit bull type dogs were responsible for 67% of fatalities.

It is common knowledge that this dog breed can even mangle the human to death as pit bull locks its jaws onto the body until it is dead.

Pits can't lock their jaws bro.The pit bulls jaws are the same as any other breed of dog!Any Veterinarian can verify this is simply a myth.  Pit Bulls have been bred to not let go, however, their  jaws are not locked.

pits being responsible for 67% of fatalities is not true.

here's a test that gotz 25 different dog pictures, none are mixed"http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html"...try and guess which one the pit is...if u get it with ur first pick then u either a lucky ass mothafucka or u really know ur dogs...just imagine how hard that shit would be to identify a pit while its attacking u or some other kat on the street and u just get a glimpse of the dog...so a shit load of the dogs that are reported as pits that attacked someone are most likely not pits...

The American Pit Bull Terrier was the #1 family dog in the US  during first part of the 20th century. They are Loyal, loving, devoted, funny,  and almost human like in their emotions and expressions!

The American Temperament Testing Society does temperament testing throughout the year at breed clubs and compiles the statistics. Their overall pass rate for breeds is 80%, and in the 2002 statistics, APBTs, AMSTAFFs, and Rottweilers were all in the 82 percentile, meaning 80+% of the dogs tested passed the temperament test. That is a very high percentage, especially when comparing to breeds which are common family dogs, such as, Golden Retrievers and Bichon Frise tested at 77%, Chihuahua at 71%, Greyhound at 81% and  Lhasa Apso at 71%. These test results are available at www.atts.org

BASICALLY...PIT BULLS=GREATEST DOGS EVER 8) 8) 8)

We have a 3 month year old pure bred Doberman,  absolute amazing dog.  People are right on point when they refer to Doberman's as the rolls royce of dogs.  They are so elegant, so smart and have amazing personalities.  Our guy is real friendly but at only 3 months it's amazing to see his alertness and protective instincts already.  You dont have to train Doberman's to be protective, they will be on their own as they are born with that instinct.

They are alot of work and require extreme exercise and attention so they aren't for everybody but they truly are spectacular dogs.

you never got to meet my Akita/Pit mix... damn homie. You would have tripped out on her, but when your mom meet my dad, she was already gone for a year. But yeah, that was my dog.

I agree, I've had four, three pure breds and a mix. The last one my grandma got but she died when I was in college and just a pup. Without me she was lost, but when I was there to play with her and exercise her, she was becoming a great dog, so I felt sad as it really takes a owner that is there to be with a young Dobe. My other three... my god, they were such great dogs. I liked my Akita/Pit mix, but my favorite breed to raise is a Dobe. I told my fiance, once we get a house, you can have your pugs still, they can stay inside, but in that backyard will be a Doberman. No one dares enter my yard. The mix Dobe we had got stabbed twice and still lived to be 16 years. The other two were such wonderful dogs, once a bunch of dogs was going to attack me and my male Dobe was circling me basically telling the other dogs to back off. Dobes are hard work, buy the rewards are so great.

For now, I got my pugs, who are actually my fiance's dogs, they are small and fit perfect into an apartment. But once we get our house, look at the dog who will run the yard.

I've owned both too. I always liked dogs better, though I had one cat that killed everything, and never allowed the dogs to mangle him. My dogs loved to kill cats, a cat looked at them wrong and they died. But this cat interacted with them, and killed every mouse in our house and gopher outside. He was the perfect cat and I was sad when he died. RIP Pyscho, I know you and my dog Chica are holding it down until your master gets up there.

some cats are very dominant, i have 2 dogs and 4 cats, 2 of them cats are scared of the dogs but the 2 others make dogs run for they lives. I think the cat is the perfect predator, i grew up around cats and dogs and i like both. But my cats are different they outside most of the time killing birds and shit their not fat house lazy cats

Yea...Cats are very underrated. My girl brings her cat over once in a while and all he does is fuck with my dog all day, chasing him around the house and shit. And my dog is like 5 times the size of the cat.

i don't but my cuzz does and he taught him how to sit, stay, give a high five, lay down on the ground, and all sorts of shit in a day or 2...he's been tryin to teach her how to roll over but the shits hella hard...oh,and its been trained to not take dumps in the house pretty good,i've seen the dog not shit for almost 2 days and wait till we took her outside to take a shit while other dogs would wait awhile and if nobody took em for a walk they would take a shit in a corner of a room...and pitts are hella funny when they get stoned,u should deff get one if ur thinkin about gettin a dog... 8) 8) 8)

^^that's crazy!
I'd say it's easy to train them when they are younger and all,but I've always figured Pitts were a lot harder!!

Not sure yet, if i want to get a Pitt just yet!
I'll settle for a Alsatian,before  i would get a Pitt-I'm a little terrified of Pitts!

pitts are the friendliest dogs, but only to people, they fuckin hate other dogs...its because they were trained to fight other dogs and protect humans so they be like that...and they learn pretty fast...plus they have alot of energy and they need alot of attention so if ur the type that goes to skool or work all day or if u take alot of trips pitts aren't for u...

Major Props on the Info Ali..
I heard that about Pitts, they don't get along well with other dogs!!
