Former Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone died from an accidental heroin overdose, according to his autopsy report filed on September 12. Paperwork from the medical examiner's office in Los Angeles has been posted online at the Smoking Gun website (thesmokinggun.com), and it indicates that Ramone's body showed no trauma other than an abrasion on the left side of his forehead and a "needle puncture wound" on his left arm.
The autopsy found nothing else out of the ordinary with Ramone (born Douglas Colvin), and combined with the initial discovery at the scene of a needle and syringe, a spoon with possible drug residue, and five balloons with possible drug contents, the determination of death by accidental morphine (heroin) intoxication by injection was reached.
Dee Dee Ramone died June 5 at his home in Hollywood. He would have turned 50 on Wednesday (September 18).
