The self-proclaimed “best rapper alive,” Lil’ Wayne, proved to be just that, when his last album Tha Carter III sold over 1 million copies in its first week. Now, the rap superstar looks shine on a different stage, as QD3 Entertainment preps a film biography on the life and career of Mr. Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. titled, The Carter for 2009.
From the producers who delivered the Tupac Shakur documentary, Thug Angel, as well as the popular Beef DVD series, QD3 Entertainment in association with Young Money Entertainment, has announced plans to release the first-ever biography on the life and career of Weezy. Directed by filmmaker Adam Lough (The Upsetter, which chronicled the life and music of reggae producer Lee “Scratch” Perry), the film will explore the man, his family and the drive behind his fame.
"We at Young Money are thrilled to be working with QD3 on the production of The Carter,” noted Lil Wayne's manager Cortez Bryant in a statement. "As Weezy's manager and lifelong friend, I am excited to see Wayne's story documented with truth and sincerity. Not only is Wayne the hottest musician in the business, but his life story reads something like a Hollywood script enabling this film to break boundaries. And there is no doubt in Wayne's mind that this film will exceed any and all expectation. He's a f@#king rockstar!"
As the leading independent producer and aggregator of high quality urban content for multi-platform distribution, QD3 Entertainment Founder and CEO Quincy D. Jones III hopes the doc will serve as a vehicle to shed light on pre and post Hurricane Katrina New Orleans and offer insight from those who know Weezy best.
“In my career as a music/producer/film producer I’ve been blessed to have worked with some of the best artists of our time, including Tupac Shakur, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, and others,” Jones stated. “Lil’ Wayne is hands down the Tupac of this generation in that he is a true artist, a world class writer/performer, and he’s not afraid to push the envelop on any level which makes him a true original.
“QD3 Entertainment is thrilled that Lil’ Wayne and Young Money Entertainment has trusted our company to document his life,” he continued, “The fact that [Wayne] just sold over 1 million albums in the first week without any media ploys is a testament to the strength of his music and artistry. The goal is to go beyond a standard doc and create a theatrical product that will serve as the definitive documentation of Wayne’s life and career.”
The Carter is scheduled for release by Genius Products in 2009.

I was actually shocked that Wayne sold a million plus......everyone I know who was a Lil Wayne fan refused to buy the album cause of how retarded he has become, so I figured his popularity had to have been dieing down, everywhere I went people talked shit about lil wayne and how bad he has become...O well guess you can never be to sure....a writer and performer? The main simularity is that right now Weezy's peak has him at the top of the rap game. Very few rappers reach their peak and are on top. Jay-Z in 2001, Ice Cube in 1992, 2Pac in 1996, Eminem in 2000, Rakim in 1988 and 50 Cent in 2003 are few examples of people being at their best and being at the top. Weezy is running 2008, and it's not close. That's were it all stops, though Weezy is the first big number one to truly run the game and that hasn't happened since 50 Cent messed up with Piggy Bank. Since 2005, no one except TI has truly had a hold on the game, and TI wasn't at that level that you need to be to run the game like Weezy is. I am not a Weezy fan, but his at a level right now with connecting with the fans of his generation that it's at that level. Now I have yet to ever see 2Pac level, Hov fans seemed to be more casual give me club banger fans, Em fans were angry teens and his the closest I've seen to 2Pac level, but 'Pac had fans ready to go to war on his orders. Weezy connects with this generation like no one else. IMO, TI is the best emcee today, Kanye is the best pure artist today, but Weezy just connects with people and to not see it is to be out of touch with Hip-Hop today.

They are of the Gangsta Rap and Bling Era's, and even though we are in the Hip-Hop is Dead Era, Nas is more of an elder than a defining member today. Like Jay, Jay defined the Bling Era, he was not the best rapper of that generation, Nas was, he wasn't the best artist, Eminem was, but Jay-Z was the definition of what it was to be a Bling Era emcee. In the Gangsta Rap Era, Cube was heavy then, 4 albums, an EP and the only westcoast artist to get 5 mics. He is more a member of the Gangsta Rap Era than today's era.

I'm 27, there's no way I'm old, as many of these artist are older than me, BUT being a Hip-Hop fan for a long time I can see the change, and realize my favorite times are past, and it's what the kids like today. I was home in Cali a couple weeks ago, and my little cousin got my phone and was going through the songs I had on there. He was like what is this, and I looked and saw a Jay-Z song, so I was like that's Jay-Z, without a delay dude came and said "you have something that's NOT 10 years old." He wanted T-Pain, Akon, he liked the Certified song I got with G. Malone but didn't like the Mix tape 'cause Glasses had too many old school beats. This is a new era, the same as Snoop was in the early 90's, 50 Cent is today, times have changed.

Wayne should never be compared to 2Pac. 2Pac had substance in his rhymes. Like the dude said above, Pac had fans ready to ride for the cause and they didn't even know him. Perfect example was the "West/East coast" beef. The majority of Pac's songs had a story in it or was saying something worth listening to. Wayne is pretty much all punchlines. W/O the beats his songs are very average. This QD3 fellow is just trying to hype his product but he went over the deep edge with the Lil Wayne/ Pac comparison.
