PHOENIX - Rapper DMX has been arrested at a Phoenix mall on a felony charge of taking the identity of another.
Phoenix police Sgt. Andy Hill did not have details of the charge, as it stemmed from a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office case.
The sheriff's office did not immediately return a request for comment.
Hill says DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was being taken Saturday for booking into the Maricopa County jail.
The musician/actor has had a recent string of run-ins with the law, including an arrest at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport earlier this month on outstanding warrants after he failed to appear in court.
The week before, he was arrested in Miami on charges of attempting to purchase cocaine and marijuana.

* DMX and his wife were arrested on June 20, 1999, after a police investigation of his Teaneck, New Jersey home uncovered a gun and drug paraphernalia.[5]
* In March 2000, DMX was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, failure to signal, driving without a license, failure to notify the DMV of an address change, and possession of marijuana New York State Route 33 in Cheektowaga, New York, following a concert in Buffalo, New York. He was then scheduled to appear in Cheektowaga Town Court on March 21, but failed to appear, resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest.[6] He later turned himself in, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving without a license and was sentenced to 15 days in jail and fined $400.[7] He was also charged with marijuana possession, after turning himself in, when authorities found marijuana in a pack of his cigarettes; he was fined an additional $250.
* In 2002, he pled guilty to animal cruelty for having 13 neglected pit bulls in his possession.[8]
* In June 2003, DMX was arrested for using indecent language during a performance at St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean. The country's Information Minister alleged that a contract signed before the concert stipulated the show would be without indecent language on stage. Simmons was released on bail ($376).[9]
* In June 2004, he was arrested at JFK Airport on charges of cocaine possession, criminal impersonation, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, menacing, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol while claiming to be a federal agent and attempting to carjack a vehicle.[10]
* In May 2006, Simmons was arrested at a London airport for causing a disturbance after he refused to put on a seat belt and became abusive on a flight from New York to London. He was released with a caution.[11]
* On February 2, 2007 DMX was arrested for driving on an expired license charge, and scheduled an appearance in a Yonkers courtroom on March 6, 2007 on that and other minor infractions.[12]
* On August 24, 2007 Acting upon an animal cruelty tip, Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies reported to having removed 12 "malnourished" pit bulls from Simmon's Cave Creek home. None of these dogs had access to food or water. Deputies also found the bodies of 3 dead dogs buried in the garden. Simmons was not at home when the raid occurred. At this time, DMX has not been charged with animal cruelty[13]
* On May 9, 2008 Simmons was arrested for possession of drugs and weapons. Stemming from the August search of the rapper's home, the police searched his home twice, finding a number of mistreated pitbull puppies as well as a number of drugs and weapons. [14]
* On June 23, 2008 DMX was arrested in Miami on a warrant for not having a valid driver's license. He was picked up Monday afternoon at around 1:30 p.m. for the warrant. X was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Monday afternoon, as of 5:30 p.m. His bond is set at $500.[15]
* On June 27, 2008 DMX was arrested in Miami for attempting to buy cocaine and marijuana.[16]
* On July 2, 2008 DMX was arrested in Phoenix at Sky Harbor airport after arriving from Miami for outstanding warrants and failing to appear in court. His bond is $1075 for driving without a license and $10000 for previous drug charges on May 9th. [17]
* On July 19, 2008 DMX was arrested at a Phoenix mall on suspicion that he gave a false name & Social Security number to a hospital to get out of paying for medical expenses.[18]DMX is suspected of having used a false name, "Troy Jones" and failed to pay a $ 7,500 bill to Scottsdale's Mayo Clinic in April. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said DMX's bond had not been set, and if he remains in 4th avenue jail, he would be isolated from the rest of the inmates for his own safety. "They may not like his music."[19][20]

As previously reported by Yo!Raps, DMX was arrested (for the 6th time in the past three months) for theft and identity theft charges on July 19. Well, DMX showed up in court yesterday (July 24) to plead not guilty. In a bizarre twist of events, however, the rapper exited the courtroom and began rapping for reporters and plugging his new LP.
After X left the courtroom yesterday, he rapped for reporters saying, “If you ever fall back down, get back up.”
The Associated Press even said that the rapper then plugged his next album.
The charges stem from an April incident where the rapper allegedly gave the alias “Troy Jones” to medical facility to duck out on a $7,500 bill.
According to reports, he was reportedly heard saying “someone in the projects is going to get the bill.”
X is due back in court on August 12.

A Phoenix, Arizona judge has issued an arrest warrant for rapper DMX for missing a scheduled court date today (August 12), AllHipHop.com has learned.
DMX, born Earl Simmons, is accused of visiting the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona to receive treatment for an illness and using someone else’s identity, in order to avoid paying the bill.
The rapper, 37, was also due supposed to attend a pretrial conference pertaining to marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession charges.
According to the Associated Press, Commissioner Phemonia Miller also raised DMX’s bond to $25,000.
The judge is holding an arrest warrant until 4 p.m. on Tuesday (August 19), in order for DMX’s attorney to disclose the rapper’s whereabouts, as well as the reason he missed today’s hearing.

He was arrested in May on drug and animal cruelty charges after sheriff's deputies raided his Cave Creek, Arizona, home. Authorities alleged that there were dog carcasses and malnourished pit bulls at the residence.
The rapper also faces two felony charges for taking the identity of another person and giving false information during a trip to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, in an alleged attempt to avoid paying the bill.
"This guy is treating our legal system like a revolving door and it's time we closed the cell door on him," Arpaio told Reuters.
Simmons had his first five albums open at No. 1 on the U.S. pop album charts, but his most recent release, 2006's "Year of the Dog ... Again," ended that run by debuting at No. 2.
Simmons has also acted in several action movies, including "Cradle 2 The Grave" and "Exit Wounds."

Legal drama for rapper DMX continues to unfold as the entertainer sits in a Florida jail under a no bail hold status.
TMZ.com reports that DMX, born Earl Simmons, appeared in court on Friday (August 15) after a bench warrant was issued against him in Arizona for drug charges.
The rapper was arrested Thursday (August 14) while attempting to leave a Wal-Mart in Miami, Fla.
The arrest came as result of Simmons skipping a court date on Tuesday (August 12) for a pretrial conference on allegations of marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession.
The rapper had reportedly tried to surrender to police, but was taken in before negations with his lawyer were completed.
Simmons’ lawyer, Brad Cohen, waived extradition for his client and contested a no bond hold, after a $25,000 bond had previously set for Simmons.
Despite Cohen's attempt to get a fugitive bond in the state of Florida for Simmons to return to Arizona to bond out, Judge Lawrence Schwartz upheld the no bond status, which was issued by the State of Arizona.
"I am not questioning the veracity of anything you just said to me. I would absolutely have no reason to do that," Judge Schwartz said. "But until state of Arizona lifts its no bond status, it’s a no bond status at this point."
As a result of the ruling, Simmons will have to stay in jail in Florida until his October 2 court hearing for a possession charge he obtained in Miami.
Cohen later told TMZ he would have the rapper released before the hearing if everything is straightened out.

DMX Sits In Miami Jail While Officials Figure Out Who Gets To Try Him First.
Rapper may not be eligible for bond as he awaits October trial in Florida or extradition to Arizona.
The twisted saga of DMX's legal woes continues to get more bizarre and impossible to follow as the days go on. But even as multiple law-enforcement jurisdictions across the country vie to get the first shot at the rapper (born Earl Simmons), one thing seems certain: The next few months, and possibly years, of DMX's life will likely find him either sitting in a cell or putting in hard time to get his once-multiplatinum career and chaotic personal life back on track.
The rapper missed another court date on Tuesday (August 19) in Arizona, where attorney Charles Kozelka, the public defender appointed to try his multiple drug and animal-cruelty cases, heard some bad news from the trial judge. Unlike last week, when DMX did not show up to court because of a reported hospitalization, this time he was absent because he is being held in a Miami jail cell following his arrest last Thursday, Kozelka told MTV News.
That arrest was a result of a felony fugitive warrant put out by Arizona authorities following DMX's failure to appear in court last Tuesday to face a marijuana-possession charge from earlier this year. Officials in Miami nabbed X outside a Wal-Mart when they spotted him sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle that had no license plates and was parked in a handicap spot. A routine check revealed the outstanding warrant.
Because it was a felony fugitive of justice warrant, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department said his jurisdiction is not allowed to offer DMX bond. That means the rapper will either sit in jail until October 2, when he will face drug charges in Miami for an arrest in June, or be extradited to Arizona, where he will go in front of Judge Michael Kemp on charges that could land him in prison for five years.
"At this point, no one is taking responsibility for which law is holding him there," Kozelka said, adding that he has had a hard time getting Florida and Arizona law-enforcement officials to explain to him which state's laws are keeping X locked up. "Now I understand that there's a Florida law on fugitives that allows them to give no bond, and the Florida judge said he won't give bond unless the prosecutor here [in Arizona] says it's OK, which is not happening."
Captain Paul Chagolla of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said he "certainly" plans to try to extradite DMX to Arizona, but at press time he was not sure when that would happen. "He will sit in jail until he adjudicates the charges there [in Miami], and then we'll pick him up," he said, adding that it's also possible X will be brought back to Arizona first, if the process of trying him in Miami stretches out and causes further delays in the timetable for the Arizona cases.
"I went to the judge with a compromise solution where he could set aside the [fugitive of justice] warrant from last week, and I asked for one week so we can get the ball rolling and get his [Arizona] cases back on track," Kozelka said. "The judge said the bond was reasonable, and if Florida holds him, they hold him. I can tell you one thing: I've never seen this process before on a marijuana case."
