PARIS' ACID REFLEX
(http://www.musicremedy.com/webfiles/artists/Paris/Paris-01-big.jpg)

Well, another album that is pretty dope all the way trough,so there's really no need for breaking it down track by track.
It's what I can expected from Paris, hard beats and lyrics. Love the way he incoperates news reports from TV/Radio and speeches.
I only had it rotation for a day... but I believe my rating will land somewhere around;
3.5 out of 5

what i thought you rated it 4/5 last time?  ???

ah  ;) that's very understandable  ;)
anyway, like i asked Laconic before, is it better/worse/as good as Sonic Jihad?

I love this record.  Period.  Not a bad song throughout.  Expect more dialogue about the album on and around the release date.  I know D~Nice and myself are going to be reviewing this.  Hopefully we can get a good thread going as there seems to be a lack of them for the most part.

And Lunatic is doing an interview with him in the very near future so hopefully that, too, will shed some light on this album.

Luna, you gonna release the interview closer to the album release date?  Sounds like a good idea to me  ;)

Not sure, need to listen to Sonic Jihad again.
I can tell you that it´s far from his best album... if that helps you?

yeah that covers it too, thanks  ;)

well most people were getting an erection from the leaking of Raw Footage and later LAX, so that doesn't surprise me  ;)
i'd say just start a new one when the time comes  ;)

^ I was one of the "erection getters" when Raw Footage leaked and I'm still very happy with the record.  I think it's a grower but more on that later  ;)

And, yes, there will certainly be a new thread for Acid Reflex  :)

I like the lyrics, not sure about his delivery style on this. The beat is alright, the hook is WAK... too bad, because the lyrics is on point.  :-\

I really enjoy the hook. Simple but effective IMO   And the woman in the background tears it up...Oh yeahhhh.  Nice build up.

Post by: Dre-Day on September 02, 2008, 06:02:36 AM
I'm going to review this also in due time but I'll probably go track by track with it.  All I can say at this point in time is that it's a very good album  :)

do you like it more than Sonic Jihad?

I think as of now it is right on par with Sonic Jihad and that is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time.  Every song is great or really good IMO.  8)

when i heard that Acid Reflex got pushed back, i didn't want to wait until October to hear the album for the first time, so i decided to check out the advance ( i will buy the album when it finally drops by the way).

as expected it's a pretty solid album: raw production, content, great delivery and dope sampled speeches etc.
however, with the exception of Don't stop the movement there are no tracks that i really like.

i mean, for example, with Sonic Jihad i had:

Field Nigga Boogie
Lay Low
Awol
What Would You Do

and with Rebirth of a nation i had:

Raw Shit
Hard Rhymin'
Rise
Hard Truth Soldiers
Make it Hardcore

and i also felt that the hooks of a few songs weren't right; for example the one from So What , Get fired up and Acid Reflex.

not sure what exact rating would be in place, but i assume it would be around 7/10

So, what's up with this?

Is this "advance" the real deal? When is (was?) the release date?
yeah it's real.
the album was supposed to come out today but it has been pushed back to the 28th of October :-\

Ah, okay, thanks

The best tracks on Cube´s is better than anything on Acid Reflex..... but yes overall Acid Reflex is better.  ;)

but Acid Reflex is way more balanced, so that's why it's not even a competitor in my opinion.

You really think the Cube album is that bad?  :P
What's your final rating on Paris and Cube?

yeah i believe i gave Raw Footage 4/10(perhaps 4.5 is more suitable now, but not much higher) and Paris was around 7/10; i wasn't sure what exact rating would be suitable, but now i think it gets 7/10.

Quick review from me.

I really dig this album. And most here know me for being a huge Ice Cube fan, but I think this Acid Reflex is better than Raw Footage. Alot of social commentary on this album, not as politically charged as Sonic Jihad but definitely tackles the social woes of this country. Look no further than Don't Stop the Movement to see that, man is that song dead on or what? I think where Cube did a good job of tackling social issues here and there he did not do it for a complete album on RF. Paris did on this one. Beats were dope throughout and it has great replay value. Digging Rebels Without Applause right now. More from me as the album sinks in but that is my initial reaction after buying it this week.

Word.  I agree.  I'm gonna review this eventually as well.  Right now I like it a little less than Sonic Jihad but more than Raw Footage.  Rebels Without Applause is great.  T-KASH steals the show on that one IMO.

Yeah I dig both albums. I just felt like Paris sounded more comfortable and his album was set up better to be socially charged from beginning to end. Cube had songs like Why Me, Cold Places, Hood Mentality but also had Do Ya Thang, Got My Locs On, Get Used To It and Jack In The Box  so it made it seem uneven a little bit as far as subject matter. Still dope don't get me wrong.

I believe you... what I found more funny/interesting is that Paris always seems to ehhhhhh to have the same production style as Dre troughout all the years.
His style/sound is actually closer to Dre's than cats that's linked to Dre.  :P

 ;)

well Paris has mentioned that he's been influenced by Dre's productions.
i think i've read that on the guerilla funk website.

i can't really hear if he's influenced by Dre's recent stuff, but i do hear the influence of Dre's past work  ;)
