I really like the old Hardcore stuff like Bad Brains, Minor Threat and Black Flag. Glam Punk like The Heart Attacks, and Garage Punk. Of the bands that classify themselves as straight punk, I like the first wave in the 70s, and recently I've gotten into the Dickies and The Misfits.

^^You probably liked Fugazi too since Ian MacKaye founded both Minor Threat & Fugazi.

Anyway, here's a few faves.

^^I dig all those bands too. I'm known to have a broad palette in musical taste, so I like pretty much all types of punk rock.

On a side note, I know Pennywise & Rancid among a slew of other punk bands have done live covers of Fugazi & Minor Threat songs (both bands were founded by Ian MacKaye).

It just goes to show how influential Ian MacKaye is to the punk rock scene. BTW, Ian MacKaye & Henry Rollins grew up together in the same neighborhood in Washington D.C. and were best friends. Matter of factly, Ian talked Henry into joining Black Flag as their lead singer when they were looking for one while touring the East Coast in the early 80's. Henry obliged and the rest is history.

Who doesn't? I like proto-punk especially. The Stooges, Dead Boys, Dictators, Zeros, etc. The Clash owns. Black Flag, X, Rocket From The Crypt, Social D. All good stuff.

Interesting factoid about Fugazi's independent grind and business ethics. BTW, I've seen these guys live 3x's so can attest that I've never paid more than $5 to see them perform. Now it all makes sense why they did it this way.

Jacked from wiki:

On their first tours, Fugazi worked out their DIY aesthetic by trial and error. Their decisions were partly motivated by pragmatic considerations that were essentially a punk rock version of simple living: for example, selling merchandise on tour would require a full-time merchandise salesperson who would require lodging, food, and other costs, so Fugazi decided to simplify their touring by not selling merchandise. They were also motivated by moral or ethical considerations: for example, Fugazi's members regarded pricey admission for rock concerts as tantamount to price gouging a performer's most loyal fans. Their inexpensive target goal of $5 admission was spawned during a conversation on an early tour when the band's members were debating the lowest profitable admission price. At some venues, particularly on the east and west coasts of the U.S., Fugazi was unable to get ticket prices below about $10. However, they never saw the $5 rule as inviolable, instead aiming to charge a price that was both affordable and profitable. Unlike some similar, small-scale independent rock contemporaries, Fugazi's performances and tours were nearly always profitable, due to their low business overhead costs, and MacKaye's keen sense of audience response in given regions.

Fugazi's early tours earned them a strong word-of-mouth reputation, both for their powerful performances, and for their eagerness to play in unusual venues. They sought out alternatives to traditional rock clubs partly to relieve the boredom of touring, but also hoping to show fans that there are other options to traditional ways of doing things. As Picciotto said, "You find the Elks Lodge, you find the guy who's got a space in the back of his pizzeria, you find the guy who has a gallery. Kids will do that stuff because they want to make stuff happen."[13]

The group (MacKaye in particular) also made a point of discouraging violent, unwanted slam dancing and fistfights, which they saw as relics of the late 1970s/early 1980s hardcore punk era. Azerrad quotes Mackaye, "See, [slam dancers] have one form of communication: violence ... So to disorient them, you don't give them violence. I'd say, 'Excuse me, sir...'- I mean, it freaks them out -'Excuse me, sir, would you please cut that crap out?'"[14] (emphasis in original) Azerrad writes, "[Mackaye's] admonitions seemed preachy to some, but most were deeply grateful. And by and large, people would obey - it wasn't cool to disrespect Ian MacKaye."[15] Occasionally, Fugazi would escort an unrepentant slam-dancer from the concert, and give them an envelope containing a $5 refund (they kept a stock of such envelopes in their tour van for these occasions).

For punk rock I like mainly the SST Records catalog (Black Flag, Minutmen, Hüsker Dü, etc.) also early Bad Religion, Minor Threat, Operation Ivy, Dead Kennedys, and Social Distortion were good. I never really got into newer bands except for Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, The Tossers that sort of stuff..

It's all relative. Boils down to personal taste.

But if you wanna talk metal, then I can do that with y'all too, cuz like I've already mentioned above, I have an eclectic taste in many different genres of music.

I've been to over 100 live performances in my 30+ years on earth from small coffee houses to stadium sized venues watching everything from jazz, blues, punk, alt-rock, heavy/speed metal, r&b, hip hop, reggae, classical and the list goes on......

Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Anthrax, Slayer, Motorhead, Sepultura, Testament, Iron Maiden, are just some of the metal bands I've seen live. I was at the "Clash of the Titans" tour in '91 featuring Alice In Chains, Anthrax, Slayer & Megadeth. That was tuff as fuck.  8)

Yeah, Slayer is a very visual outfit with the gore and all, but once you get past that, they thrash like it's their last time performing.

Pantera was incredible live. Anselmo & Diamond Darrell (R.I.P.) killed it. Sepultura and Type O Negative opened up for them. It was a crazy ass show.
