i'm sure he will still sell loads i don't reckon the leaks make as much difference as they could these days. the reason for the early leak is probably cause of the pressing starting earlier cause they will be making a lot of copies of an album expected to sell very heavily.
i doubt there's many people who are copping a particular record that don't know they could be downloading it free a week + beforehand. t.i. seems to have a very good fanbase in terms of people actually buying his cds 8)

i'm not going to listen to any more T.I. leaks until the grouprip leaks of the album that way I can hear it in the proper quality. When I listened to L.A.X. when it was clean and webrip I really thought the cd was just average but after the grouprip dropped that totaly changed my mind.

Untitled & LAX > This. but unless im forgetting an album, ill rank it 3rd on the year with Snoop a close 4th (ill give the edge to PT over Ego Trippin'). it was impressive. this isnt my final view on it...i got three tracks left to bump, and it definatly has some replay value so things might grow...

the album is cool but as i suspected it kinda loses its way after a great opening 3/4 tracks. thats not to say its not a good album cause it is but i'm just not feeling most the tracks as much as those opening ones and a few others. now don't flame me guys cause its just an opinion :P
tip to classic material you come across as an idiot when you hate on anyone who doesn't instantly think this is a classic album. learn to accept and intelligently engage with other people's opinions. that dude above thought the majority of the cd was good/very/good excellent (as do i) so i don't see the problem. just maybe not a classic :P

i just don't like seeing valid opinions getting brushed aside cause of some over the top fanboyism. it's pretty easy to tell when someone is hating for the sake of it or giving a balanced opinion. to be fair this was happening a crazy amount when game's album dropped. most neutral reviews got instantly dismissed as hating and biased against game over in westcoast land...
if you look at sheer amount of posts and the content of this thread then i think you might have a case for dickriding t.i. but its obvious you guys are fans and are excited about the project. that's completely cool but its not cool when anyone with even a slightly different opinion then gets hated on in return. it comes across like if you dont think this cd is an absolute classic get the fuck outta this thread your/opinion is worthless. and that is dickriding.

Wow..."Ain't Missin Nothin" & "56 Bars" are both pretty dope!! Better than any recent snoop tracks i've heard. PT should be a solid album 8) But it's missin a Scott Storch beat.

I think this is a great mainstream album. Untiteld is still better but I'd easilly put this over L.A.X. Most of the people here are gonna hate on it because of Lunatic's and Classic Material's over quote-ing which is annyoing sometimes but you just have to look past that. I like that most of the album has songs with concept, production is really on point and T.I.'s flow and lyrics have improved drastically since T.I. Vs. T.I.P.
After 1st listen I devided the album in 3 categories:
a) Concept tracks : On Top Of The World (great vibe on this track, the hook is awsome), Ready For Whatever, Live Your Life (Rihaana is unecessary though), No Matter What, My Life Your Entertaiment, Slide Show, You Ain't Missing Nothin', Dead And Gone (wow at Justin's production talent)
b) Just spitting/bragging : 56 Bars, I'm Illy (Danja is a beast), What's Up What's Happenin, Every Chance I Get, Swagga Like Us
c) Alright tracks: Swing Ya Rag, Whatever You Like
d) Wack: Porn Star
Looks like him catching that case was the best thing that could happen to him artistic wise, lot's of introspective tracks.

Im gonna try and resist downloading the album till the grouprip is out, since otherwise ill play out the album before it's released, i've only heard the leaked tunes (thankfully quite a few were cut) and some of the ones which ive heard on youtube or zshare. The album sounds like its dope, the justin tune and b.o.b tunes are sick, Toomps got some monster beats, sounds like it gonna be just below King/ Trap Musik, guess i gotta hope the Grouprip comes out soon...

"Whatever you like" may be the major single everybody is on...but I like the energy that "Swing ya rag" has, and think it will have a longer appeal than "Whatever you like." Meaning...right now, WYL gets the best club reaction...but 2-3 years from now, Swing ya rag could still be used in clubs, while WYL will be hella played out and won't have that "hit." It's similar to how Sexual seduction may have been a bigger pop single...but Life of the party is the true club track that people can get off on.

the album is cool but as i suspected it kinda loses its way after a great opening 3/4 tracks. thats not to say its not a good album cause it is but i'm just not feeling most the tracks as much as those opening ones and a few others. now don't flame me guys cause its just an opinion :P

T.I. Takes A Leak....Knocks Expectations Out The Park!

Last night Tip's new album Paper Trail leaked on the internet. I am actually surprised that it took this long, but alas it's out there and is probably being downloaded at lightening speed.
We all remember what happened the last time I put you all onto the location of the link, so I will not be doing that again, ever.
And I guess since me and Mr. Harris are cool it wouldn't be the best idea to even give you all hints like I usually do. SOHH Let's just say its out, and if you are computer savvy then I have every confidence that you'll find it.
However, after listening to Tips new album in it's entirety, I've got to give the man props, because the project is quite good! Wayne calls his himself the "greatest rapper alive", Jay-Z insists he's the "best rapper alive", but Clifford Harris, Jr. might actually be the best of the best as it relates to the south.
My favorite cut from the album is titled "Every Chance I Get". The Toomp produced track is classic TI with enough swagger and confidence in the lyrical content and delivery to stay on repeat in my ipod for at least two weeks.
It's clear that he took the frustration and stress from his life and focused it into the music. The 15 track project is packed with bonafied hits.
SOHH far this year, there hasn't been one hip-hop album that's been executed as properly as Paper Trail.
Though Lil' Wayne's album is presently dominating the Billboard charts, it's clear that The Carter III can't hold a flame to Tip's new album as far as production and delivery.
Paper Trail seems to also be echoing the embattled rappers current mantra of "piece and positivity". In the true essence of the words, Cliff has reunited with legendary beat maker Toomp on four tracks for this album. It's clear that they have settled their beefs between each other.
You won't find any rap beefs, or pot shots taken at anybody. I didn't hear that other Bankhead rapper's mentioned on any other song outside of "No Matter What".
T.I. seems to be on a whole other level in terms of his music delivery.
Anyone who know reads SOHH Atlanta understands that I am very crticial of today's hip-hop music. As a fan, I want to be surprised, inspired and down right excited to buy ones music. Alot of rappers haven't been able to pull that off as of late.
But thankfully for me T.I. isn't one of them!
Though I know a lot of people are going to be downloading the "King's" newest album illegally, hopefully you'll all will still support his music with your wallets on September 30th.
I mean, shouldn't good music be rewarded?

thats the same one i had. its not 3.5 mins, the time is just fucked up on it. if you skip to the end of the song it played past the ending mark
anyway, just finished the album. pretty good. probably his second or third best. I'll have to give Trap Muzik and KING relistens to decide. Wish "Like I Do" was on the album instead of Porn Star. There's some filler, but this is a really solid cd. Biggest disappointment was the John Legend track.. beat is crap.

I can see why u say that bout MLYE. I say no simply because the lyrics are great and i like the concept and Usher does a good job on it. Drumma Boy came weak on that beat though.

I still can't decide who did I'm Illy ---> on one hand the basic melody has that space-ish voice thing which is Danja's style but on the other hand the beat is quite simple; no background elements that Danja always uses.

I still can't decide who did I'm Illy ---> on one hand the basic melody has that space-ish voice thing which is Danja's style but on the other hand the beat is quite simple; no background elements that Danja always uses.

you know what i say though ? i've listened to this album from top to bottom and this album is a classic. i've said it, tip proved it, and that's all. every song on this shit i like. lyrically and productionwise he created a beautiful body of work. and to people sayin' the i'm illy beat is simple (among other things) dj toomp laced that beat and that joint is bananas.

Ok T.I.s more lyrical on PT then Wayne is on C3 but C3's effectively Waynes 'King' album, whereby IMO he hit his peak commercially (like T.I. did with King, big single, ATL dropped at the same time) so C3's not gonna be super lyrical, whereas T.I.'s fresh from the Gun charge drama, going to jail etc etc, and of course he's writing again, so you'd expect it to be more lyrical. PT's solid but i think it lacks those standout tunes, thats why i'd place it behind King as my fav T.I. album (TM isnt there as i've never really listenened to it fully due to the version i downloaded being shit quality). Also production on C3 >> PT
But at the end of the day its all down to opinion, so...let the haters hate....i expect a response from Classic within the next minute

i'm not overrating it. it's a pretty good album...... his best yet. and yes classic. wayne's album was good (productionwise). lyrically it was bird shit. lyrically & productionwise paper trail kills lax, untitled, ego trippin', raw footage, trilla, etc. the album was a complete album.

I downloaded this... it was better than I expected... but I had very low expectations, so that's not saying much. It's an average release like his others... some dope production on there though that's for sure. I still prefer Carter III over this. Maybe once T.I. has all that arrest/jail bullshit behind him he can start making better music.. until then, we'll have to settle for this. Btw.. Luda outshined T.I. on his track.

I listened to this three times now and I can't get to a different conclusion that this album is really mediocre. The beats sound played out and the raps are mediocre. It's a good thing that I cut T.I.'s verses out of those two tracks cause those two edited tracks will be the only tracks that won't end up in my Recycle Bin.
On another note: That leftover "Let My Beat Pound" is crap. The only thing that stands out in that track is the Transformers sound, but the song already got old after 10 spins :-\

I stopped reading the thread here. Couldn't have put it any better. You bring the hate you get and the dickriding coments on yourself because even if you say you're not, the way you write makes you come across as if you're on Tip's jock way hard. The album is dope by the way, I've been bumping it since it leaked and Tip came through. Some of the beats are questionable but he's on point lyrically IMO.

So, I've listened to it another time tonight, and it's a good album. DEFINATLY better than the last one - but not better than KING - I think I like every song on that.

"TI VS TIP" wasn't bad at all imo minus 3-4 songs, but some ppl disliked it. The album is 3 sections. TIP. TI. TI VS TIP. the TIP side and the TI VS TIP side are HOT AS FUCK. The Ti side was kind of commercial and poppy minus 1 hot ass track (help is coming). I would check it out if i was u.

very fair review. there are a couple more tracks i'm not overly keen on for example i wouldn't compare that swizz beatz track to his earlier track with t.i. 'bring em out' cause that track had way more energy and was generally just a lot better. on the whole i agree its a solid effort, especially lyrically as t.i. is on point. having tracks from toomp was a good move but its a big shame there wasn't more danja collabs as 'no matter what' is easily a standout...

The hype leading into Clifford Harris' highly-anticipated "Paper Trail" has been hard to avoid. It's hard to say for certain if it's been overkill. On the one hand releasing SIX singles before your full-length album even hits stores is a potential album killer. It's hard to imagine fans who have already downloaded the best songs a la carte from "Paper Trail" suddenly wanting to reinvest and pay $15 to own them all again. On the other hand any album strong enough to have six singles before it even hits brick 'n mortar retail is probably going to be a certifiable banger start to finish. Fans who only bought one or two of these songs would definitely want to have the rest, especially since T.I. is one of the most popular rap artists to come out of Atlanta in the 21st century. Even those who had bought more could probably be persuaded to have a "hard copy" of all of the songs from one of their favorite MC's. It seems either way the risk of overexposure was one that both Alantic Records and T.I. were willing to take, with each single building up anticipation for "Paper Trail" as it simultaneously risked reaching the tipping point beyond which the album could flop.
Before addressing whether or not the risk paid off, let's address the singles individually. Things started off really hot all the way back in May of this year with the Danja produced "No Matter What." Besides having a hypnotic church-like musical backdrop and some crunk-ass melody, the opening verse was one of the most honest and raw of T.I.'s entire career, addressing his personal and legal problems and his supreme desire to overcome all obstacles in his way.

The emphatic chorus defines T.I. as well as he ever has in his entire career, with the stark declaration "I ain't dead, I ain't done; I ain't scared, I ain't run/But still I stand... no matter what pimpin' here I am." From there the releases from "Paper Trail" continued to escalate in both dopeness and impact. The Jim Jonsin produced "Whatever You Like" blazed up radio with T.I. busting out the Bankhead version of Nelly or Flo Rida, giving his rap a musical flow that matched perfectly with the song's smooth electronic bounce. For those looking for something a little harder, "Swing Ya Rag" featuring (and produced by) Swizz Beatz put over T.I. as one of the hardest ballers with the biggest bankroll in all of the South. It's perhaps ironic that a sound with so much club appeal would feature a chorus stating "I don't dance, no way/I just take my Louis rag out and wave it 'round in the air" but so be it.
Three hot singles right off the bat, that's certainly not unprecedented for an upcoming album - everyone from the aforementioned Nelly to Jay-Z has done that before. What was really surprising about "Paper Trail" was when three more dropped IN THE SPAN OF TEN DAYS. From September 2nd through September 10th the internet kept blowing up, starting with "What Up, What's Haapnin'" and followed four days later by "Swagga Like Us" until eventually finishing with "Live Your Life." Arguably each song serves a different and valuable purpose for Atlantic and T.I. "What Up, What's Haapnin'" is a Drumma Boy production at a time when DB is one of the most ON FIRE producers in all of rap, cranking out hits like "Put On" for Young Jeezy and "Umma Do Me" for Rocko time after time. The song doesn't deviate from that formula and is ear-pleasing as a result, but "Swagga Like Us" may be one of the MOST unusual singles that ANY hip-hop artist has put out since Jeru the Damaja's "Come Clean." Kanye West went all the way beyond traditional rap into a mind-bending, noisy, warbling and exaggerated electronic melody, stitched together in the chorus by a sample taken from M.I.A.'s hit song "Paper Planes." Not only did the song go experimental, the guest rap roster from Kanye to Jay-Z to Lil Wayne were adjusting their braggadocious vocals with AutoTune even when NOT singing. The whole presentation could have been overwhelming but T.I.'s down to earth final verse not only grounds the song but steals the show in flow:
"Ay, you can go see Weezy for the wordplay, Jeezy for the bird play
Kanyeezy for diversity and me for controversy
I'm a verse that's picture perfect, only spit to serve a purpose
You ain't livin what you kickin then you worthless!
Lookin from the surface it may seem like I got reason to be nervous
Then observe my work to see if my adversity was worth it
Verse is autobiographical, absolutely classical
Last thing I'm worried 'bout is what another rapper do
Ain't nobody hot as me; even if they rap they ass off
blast off and have outstandin qualities
Sell a lot of records, I'll respect it and salute that
But spin real life on hot beats, I'm the truth at
You kick it like me, no exaggeration necessary
Livin revolutionary, nuttin less than legendary
Gangsta shit hereditary, got it from my dad
Flow colder than February with extraordinary swag!"
When the story of the year 2008 in rap is written, regardless of how "Paper Trail" does in sales, the song "Swagga Like Us" will go down as one of the year's most memorable tracks. In fact to be perfectly honest about it, following up with "Live Your Life" featuring Rihanna was unnecessary. The first problem with the track is the choice of sample - jacking from the infamous "Numa Numa" fad that dominated YouTube for far too long (the "Dragostea din tei" song by O-Zone). To be honest I don't feel that Just Blaze flipped it up enough to make it worth hearing the ten-thousandth time, and hearing Rihanna try to sing new words in the same melody and tempo as this insipid track makes it even worse. I thought three singles was more than plenty, five was really pushing it, but "Live Your Life" was a song that I absolutely wouldn't have dropped to promote a hardcore hip-hop star. Perhaps T.I. is trying to prove he has a sense of humor and that he's not afraid to be compared to Gary Brolsma, but this song is so irritating it shouldn't have even been put on "Paper Trail" at all.
Fortunately for listeners this is the only serious mistake on the otherwise oustanding "Paper Trail," and having six singles off the album doesn't turn out to be overkill after all. T.I. wastes no time spitting "56 Bars" right from the album's beginning, giving all of his fans exactly what they were waiting for with no filler or BS, proclaiming himself "without the braids the closest thing to O-Dog." It's followed closely by the Chuck Diesel banger "I'm Illy" with some of T.I.'s most braggadocious lyrics to date:
"How could a nigga think that he could see me
Other than the magazine covers or the TV
Know I sold mo' mixtapes than your CD
You're waitin on your big break, prayin you can be me!"
It's that sense of confidence and "extraordinary swag" that carries T.I. through all the trials and tribulations of his life, including beefs with multiple Southern artists and a rap sheet sheet with as many criminal hits as he has chart hits. With his slick talking and often surprisingly introspective flow (noting on "Ready for Whatever" that "even though my head in the clouds, I'm planted on the pavement") T.I.'s ability to flip it fast or slow and maintain clear diction on his flow even with a distinctive Georgia accent sets him far apart from his contemporaries. In other words, T.I. is just as much of a star as he thinks he is, and when you believe in yourself and have great ability you can achieve great things. You can hear him reaching for the stars and grabbing hold even on songs that HAVEN'T been released as singles, songs which EASILY would have been better choices than "Live Your Life." Trench Werk's "On Top of the World" featuring Ludacris and B.o.B. is just one. "My Life Your Entertainment" with R&B crooner Usher is another. It would be more than fair to say "Live Your Life" is the only really offensive song on the whole album, and it may be that people who aren't familiar with "Numa Numa" may find it far less annoying than this critic does. It's actually fairly ballsy that they would release an experimental song such as "Swagga Like Us" as a single compared to surefire choices like "Slide Show" with John Legend and the album's finale "Dead and Gone" featuring Justin Timberlake, but that just goes to show how complete of an album "Paper Trail" is.
With very little filler and a strong selection of songs from start to finish, the hype that this is potentially "album of the year" according to Atlantic Records may ACTUALLY be true. There's still three months left in 2008 and a fairly good year of albums leading up to this point, but whoever wants to take T.I.'s #1 spot after today is going to have to put it in overdrive in a MAJOR way. Congratulations to T.I. on finding the perfect balance of comedy and tragedy, swagger and humble attitude, pop music and hardcore hip-hop, living up to the nickname "Jay-Z of the South" in a big way.

Well, it's definetly biased, just by reading it's clear what your emotions towards T.I. are. Other than that I enjoyed reading the review, altough I strongly disagree with a) Whatever You Like being a "hot" single and Swagger Like Us being the most unpredictable single since the 90's (or something like that).

I thought the first few paragraphs felt like kind of a drag. It took a while to get to the actual review. But it was good, I disagree with some of the things u said about certain tracks but u were on point with tracks like 'You Aint Missin Nothin', 'Every Chance I Get', and 'Dead & Gone'. That question, of course, is why?!
“If your life was in jeopardy everyday is you telling me you wouldn’t need weaponry, just because of your felonies?” T.I. asks in “Ready.” “Consider this at least — I’ve got everybody sweating me. On the streets is people who won’t rest unless I rest in peace. Killed my folk a year ago still in my sleep they threaten me … I’m dealing with depression from my partner dying next to me. Think cause no one’s arrested they coming for me eventually. See this was all the things that I was going through mentally.”
In the end, “I’m wrong and I know it” T.I. adds.
If “Ready” is riveting for its openness, “Live Your Life” (featuring Rihanna) is on mark for its pop anthem potential, while “Swagga Like Us” (featuring Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne) has rap star power, and “Porn Star” is, well, X-rated smolder.
But again, that’s T.I. as you would expect.
So what’s the unexpected? That he actually sings an entire song on his recent — and first — No. 1 pop single in the country, “Whatever You Like.” Also surprising is that he recruits A-list artists (Ludacris, Usher, John Legend, Justin Timberlake), with whom he only comes up with “B” or “B-” songs.
And in curious, 2Pac-like fashion, he uses the subject of facing — and enduring — prison time to craft one of his best songs here, “You Ain’t Missin’ Nothing.”

When T.I.P. ran his initial campaign in 2003 to be anointed “King of the South,” he made a compelling case with his dismantling of then commercially viable Lil Flip, and his breakout third LP Urban Legend. Met with little resistance, T.I. went on to further build his legacy and become a mainstream star with KING, T.I. vs. T.I.P., and the 2006 film ATL.
With the success came challengers, as rivals began questioning T.I.’s credibility as an artist and his claim of being the South’s premier MC. Now learning that defending the crown is harder than chasing it, T.I. seeks to continue his reign and quiet critics with his sixth studio album Paper Trail (Grand Hustle/Atlantic).
The album begins appropriately with the lyrical dexterity of “56 Bars (Intro).” With regal authority, TIP dissects then dismisses his less talented naysayers without ever having to call out a name. Reunited with the producer that’s crafted his biggest hits, DJ Toomp’s pulsing bass lines fit perfectly with the Bankhead star’s cocksure demeanor; setting a good start for the disc.
That focus continues on their second album collaboration “I’m Illy.” Again in battle mode, T.I. juxtaposes his achievements with a thinly veiled, local Atlanta rapper who aspires to the king’s throne in mind.
For the first time, TIP addresses in detail the events that lead to his gun prosecution on “Ready For Whatever.” Over Drumma Boy’s urgent but sprawling synths, T.I. makes a compelling argument for his need for weapons, explaining the murder of his best friend before his eyes despite the six figures he already pays for security. What makes the track work so well is that TIP is brave enough to leave his Rap persona at the door and reveal the fear that fueled his rash decisions.
The middle half of the album is dominated by a long string of commercial and pop tracks which contribute a mixed bag to the LP. “On Top of the World” features T.I.’s first partnership with former heated rival Ludacris and rising ATL newcomer B.O.B. Instead of a confrontational song, the Atlanta headliners produced a joyous track detailing their many accomplishments. While it works, the collaboration will likely do little to deter the talk of those still wishing for both men to pick up where “Stomp” left off.
The back to back syrupy singles “Live Your Life” and “Whatever You Like” follow next. Smart fans will recognize that these songs are necessary to appeal to the king’s pop constituency, but that doesn’t cancel out that they are commercial fluff that does nothing for the LP.
Danja’s bluesy, organ-tinged musicianship on “No Matter What” gets things back in order with T.I.’s assertions of triumph over his many personal struggles. “Swing Ya Rag” has him in lyrically weaving Swizz Beatz’s signature rhythms into another guaranteed infectious hit in the vein of “Bring ‘Em Out.”
On the all-star collaboration “Swagger Like Us,” Kanye West, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne all make convincing cases why their swagger supersedes all others. While some will undoubtedly find the continued auto-tune effects from Kanye and Wayne clichéd, both men deliver good set up verses for T.I., who in the coveted last spot slightly edges out a clever Jay-Z verse by dismantling the M.I.A. sampling track with a rapid closing succession of consonance-heavy lyrics.
Even with distractions ranging from legal woes to petty and childish territorial “beef,” T.I. has managed to craft an album that gives listeners the standout moments they expect from the Bankhead star. Paper Trail’s achievements are enough to remind fans why they fell in love with T.I. back in 2003, and keep his tenuous title as “King of the South” in place for the immediate future.

01. 56 Barz - 4/5, nice way to open the album, T.I. spits nothing but heat and it is a good sign of what is to come
02. Im Illy - 5/5, this track is crazy... sick ass beat by Chuck Diesel and T.I. kills it... something like this was missing from the last album
03. Ready for Whatever - 4/5, it was good to see T.I. finally do a track speaking on his charges and it came out nice
04. On Top of the World (Feat. Ludacris and B.O.B) - 4.5/5, I'm loving this joint... B.o.B kills the hook and both T.I. and Luda go hard, beat is nice as well
05. Live Your Life (Feat. Rihanna) - 4.5/5, yeah it's more of a pop song but I don't care what people have to say, this is my shit... T.I. went in and Rihanna did her thing on this one 8)
06. Whatever You Like - 3.5/5, I HATED this at first, especially T.I. singing the whole thing, but it did end up growing on me and I can play this one now
07. No Matter What - 4.5/5, liked it when I first heard it and it still isn't even overplayed for me yet... T.I. shows a lot of growth on this track lyrically and with his flow
08. My Life Your Entertainment (Feat. Usher) - 4/5, this was better than I expected, not that I thought it would be wack, but I thought it was going to be just another pop song on the album, but it's a good track, Usher killed the hook
09. Porn Star - 3/5, worst track on the album easily but it's not horrible, I don't think it will grow on me though
10. Swing Ya Rag (Feat. Swizz Beatz) - 4/5, I wasn't crazy about the hook at first but I always liked the beat and T.I. killed it, now I think this one is a banger
11. What Up Whats Haapnin' - 4.5/5, looove this track as well, everything about it is dope, and he basically puts the nail in Shawty Lo's coffin without even saying his name ;D
12. Every Chance I Get - 4.5/5, great followup to the previous song, T.I. remains on point and DJ Toomp provides another banger
13. Swagga Like Us (Feat. Kanye West Jay-Z Lil Wayne) - 4/5, I can see why this track is overrated by some but it's kool with me, nothing classic, but far from wack... everybody did their thing IMO, but T.I. had the best verse without question
14. Slide Show (Feat. John Legend) - 4/5, nice track, I don't have much to say about it really other than John Legend's hook was dope and T.I. was also dope on it
15. You Aint Missin Nothing - 4/5, one of the more personal tracks on the album, T.I. put a lot into it and I haven't heard any other prison tracks like this one
16. Dead and Gone - 4.5/5, this was the best song to end the album off with, Justin Timberlake did a good job with the hook and on the production tip and T.I. ended on a good note
overall I give this album a 4/5, this was one of the best albums to come out in 2008 and is definitely in my top 10 for the year... no wack songs on it and it can be played all the way through IMO... not quite a classic, but a solid release from T.I., and it shits all over his last album... some may not like this because it's too "pop" but it didn't bother me personally... I recommend y'all go out and cop this one and support T.I. cuz he deserves it for delivering a dope album

well illmatic is a classic album and to me i think doggystyle is better than illmatic. it's a few albums i think is better than that. when i say paper trail is better than his previous i go by lyrics(even though i like it better when he don't write) because productionwise he always come wit it.

2004. he had already started urban legend and stayed working on it while on work release until he came home officially. the next album should be out next year probably (4th quarter). he's probably already started working on it as he's always done previously.

T.I.'s "Paper Trail" (Grand Hustle/Atlantic) is on course to debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 next week. The rapper's sixth studio set leads Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart, released today (Oct. 3). Unweighted sales of "Paper Trail" through the close of business yesterday stood at 357,000.
Billboard estimates the nine merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart -- Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Circuit City, iTunes, Starbucks, Borders, Target, Anderson Merchandisers and Handleman Co. -- comprise about 80% of all U.S. album sales.
The 357,000 figure is the third-largest Friday Building Chart sum of the year, trailing only Lil Wayne's Cash Money/Universal Motown set "Tha Carter III" (630,000) and Coldplay's Capitol album "Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends" (459,000). Those two albums finished their first full week in stores shifting 1 million and 721,000, respectively.
If "Paper Trail" does hit No. 1, it will be T.I.'s third straight chart topper on The Billboard 200, following "King" in 2006 and "T.I. Vs. T.I.P." in 2007. "King" bowed with 522,000 while "T.I.P." landed with 468,000.
Next week's Billboard 200 will also greet handsome entries from Jennifer Hudson's self-titled debut (Arista) and Robin Thicke's "Something Else" (Star Trak/Interscope), both of which are looking good for top five debuts.
Other albums with a chance for a top 10 entry are Jack's Mannequin's "The Glass Passenger" (Sire/Warner Bros.), James Taylor's "Covers" (StarCon/Hear Music), Kellie Picker's self-titled sophomore album (BNA) and Ben Folds' "Way To Normal" (Epic).

The CEO of Grand Hustle and the self-proclaimed ‘King of the South’ has certainly made a name for himself in the last few years. His breakout came in 2003 with Trap Muzik and T.I. (Clifford Harris Jr.) became a household name for the radio listeners, the music video watchers, and the hardcore hip hop fans. He was a large part of the southern uprising in the hip hop scene and out of all the other artist (one hit wonder or not) coming out of the south who are as commercially successful as T.I., he easily stands head and shoulders above all of them. Paper Trail is T.I.’s return from a difficult year that included a firearms charge and a rather mediocre album (T.I. vs. T.I.P.) that had a lot of people wondering if he would return the skill-set he showed on one of the best releases of the 2006 year, King. This album is littered with narcissism, A-list guest appearances, and tracks for the ladies with a variety of production styles. T.I. had plenty of time to really focus on this album as he wrote it while being under house arrest for his pending charges. Does this writing relay nicely onto the disc or does it come off as a mash up of his frustrations and a need for him to remind veryone of his “swag”?
The DJ Toomp banger, “56 Bars,” starts off the album and has T.I. displaying a cocky tone to a lyrically boring track. The track comes off as three minutes of nothing because there is no structure to the rhyme scheme and lyrically it is more like a freestyle. So much for focused writing. Toomp is around again for another banger that suits T.I. extremely well, and the MC speaks of taking whatever he wants, when he wants it. Oh, he let’s us know how rich he is throughout the entire track to. Original. The cliché subject matter is even more hurtful when he drops the tracks “Whatever You Like” and “Porn Star.”
Just Blaze co-produces “Live Your Life” which contains one of the stupidest samples possible and features Rihanna stealing the show with her feature on the upbeat chorus. The lyrical content, although cliché, is very necessary given the recent struggles of the emcee. Similar thoughts are unleashed on the very good “Ready For Whatever,” which talks directly about all of his legal issues.
It’s not all bad; as noted, his lyricism is simply a sign of the times for him. “No Matter What” is a very nice track that is backed by a great beat that does allow T.I. to preach a positive message. The most solid track on the album is the closer, “Dead and Gone,” produced by the one and only Justin Timberlake. It is a destroy and rebuild story of a man, backed by the haunting piano and a Timberland-esque beat, T.I. lets loose with JT returning the favour T.I. gave him with “My Love.”
How about Timberlake coming on the album and dropping the best beat on the whole damn thing?! This could be because the production is rather stagnant. The big names like Kanye, Just Blaze and Swizz Beatz seem out of their element, but Toomp goes 2 for 2.
A great quality about T.I. is his ability to carry a track regardless of how much it is deemed to not provide anything relevant. “I’m Illy” is a prime example of a song that shouldn’t be as good as it actually is because T.I. is able to lift up the production with his much improved flow and hunger. The problem is that this hunger seems too inconsistent throughout the album. “Swagger like Us” features Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Kanye (both on the mic and production), but, it is still T.I. who drops the best verse on the song and possibly the album. The track is very addictive, even if it is the four cockiest rappers in hip hop talking about how much they have.
To say that you are the “King of the South” is a bold statement that T.I. has not yet lived up to. Especially with artist that came before him like Andre 3000, Bun B and Scarface and artist like Phonte and Ludacris more than able to take that crown, it is a risky claim that could backfire. This album is a return to his form on King, although not as stellar of a release, Mr. Harris does maintain his own despite all of his hardships. It is unfortunate that some of the best tracks on the album came as a result of the inspiration he got from his legal issues; hopefully he can take that inspiration and transfer it to something beyond “swag.”

To say that you are the “King of the South” is a bold statement that T.I. has not yet lived up to. Especially with artist that came before him like Andre 3000, Bun B and Scarface and artist like Phonte and Ludacris more than able to take that crown, it is a risky claim that could backfire. This album is a return to his form on King, although not as stellar of a release, Mr. Harris does maintain his own despite all of his hardships. It is unfortunate that some of the best tracks on the album came as a result of the inspiration he got from his legal issues; hopefully he can take that inspiration and transfer it to something beyond “swag.”

Atlanta rap star T.I. has taken his hit making streak to the next level with a historic showing on this week’s Billboard albums and singles charts.
he rapper’s latest release, Paper Trail, entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 with 568,000 copies sold in its first week.
The ranking, which was echoed on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Top Rap Albums and Top Digital Albums charts, marks T.I.’s third consecutive number one album behind his last two platinum-certified albums, 2006's King and 2007's T.I. VS. T.I.P.
The feat also resulted in T.I.’s label, Atlantic Records, receiving its biggest sales week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.
Paper Trail’s showing was one of two achievements for T.I., who made an impact on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart with his latest single, “Live Your Life.”
The song, which features R&B/Pop vocalist Rihanna, made the biggest ever one-week leap on the chart as it rose from it’s No. 80 spot last week to this week’s position at No. 1.
The move top’s the previous record holder, also held by T.I. for the single “Whatever You Like,” which made the jump to No. 1 from No. 71 the week of Sept. 6.
“Whatever You Like” remained at No. 1 until it was knocked off by “Live Your Life.”
As a result, T.I. became the first artist to replace himself at No. 1 since the feat was accomplished by Usher in 2004.
In addition to topping the Billboard singles chart, “Live Your Life” had the biggest-ever first-week digital singles sales in history with downloads of nearly 335,000.
so he broke the record earlier this year from jumping from #71 to #1; a few weeks later, his new single breaks that record and goes from #80 to #1. Not to mention he has 3 albums in the top 200 sales this week.
