niggas* trying to be thugs when you're really suburbian socialites//
pimping hiphop saying your down but you don't understand the revolution that started this fight//
looking for salvation from the darkness but its' hard to find the light//
rap seems wrong wondering if hiphop is right//
verses flying on the hopes of distorted dreams gotta let it all go//
embracing hiphop trying to establish a unique flow//
different styles to understand mentally begin to grow//
remembering the days of Cold Crush,kool herc,Sugar hill,fab four plus one//
when hiphop was about lyrics and not about spittting rounds from your gun//
it was about spitting lyrics and just battling for fun//
now its about record sales and marketing schemes//
self image equals self-doubt killing a pioneers' dream//
thug mentality reigns supreme through commercial suceess//
in this thing called rap I lost my interest//
but self-expression moves me to understand the meaning of self-worth//
mainstream distorts something I love inflicting self-hurt//
rap is only a part of hiphop the was has its own meaning//
HIPHOP TO ME IS A MINDSTATE OF BEING//
So for hiphop I do this in rememberance//
