Title: Something You Have To Respect Rick Ross & Young Jeezy for...
Post by: Lunatic on January 31, 2009, 11:51:32 AM
...They don't release bullshit female friendly singles in order to blow up. Look at guys like T.I., Wayne, 50, Etc - they all do it. Ross & Jeezy keep it straight street shit and still sell. There 2 examples of how to keep the music gangsta/radio friendly without selling out and doing a "Lolipop" or "Candy Shop."

I know they both get hated on but I like both of them. Ross has sick tracks like Push It, Hustlin, Cross that Line, Mafia Music, This Is the Life, Maybach Music, Luxury Tax and his best track "Prayer."

Jeezy got a bunch of dope songs 2.

but overall, there just weak rappers imo.

i liked Jeezy's first album & his stuff on "Boyz In Da Hood", but his style got old real quick & just sounds boring.

the best part of his last major single "Put On" was Kanye & then Jay-Z's remix.

Ross, i cant stand listening too. he just isnt good, imo. he gets some hot beats, but fails to make a banger.

but i guess i do respect that they dont make bitch tracks for album sales.

i respect that.

Jeezy first album is a southern classic imo. Second album was WEAK. Third had a dope, consistent and cohesive sound imo; i liked that. he'll never touch the first album though. I hated the Boyz N Da Hood album lol.

Ross, u dont like Hustlin or Push It?

Hustlin was alright as a single. i mean, im just not very big on his flow & delivery.

Hustlin was catchy though & worked for him. i bumped it for a little.

Push it was cool. i liked the feel & vibe of the track. but overall nothing more than average imo.

Ross is about to catch some heat from 50 i think, so id like to see where Ross goes after 50 is done with him.

Hustlin was a dope single imo. I at least like what it represented. Rap could still sell (as that track did) without being poppy, corny, female-only singles. the sample on "push it" was sick, loved that track. Ross came correct with his raps as well.

I don't think 50 has as much pull as people think he does. "Mafia Music" is a good warm-up record for the streets, smart decision on Ross' part. "Magnificent" I am pretty sure will do well as a single, similar success to what "this is the life" and "here i am" did for him on the last album.

they are just niche rappers though...they dont make that shit cause A. they cant pull it off B. even if they did it wouldnt help their cause. they cater to the core audience they have and dont stray cause they have too to stay in the game, not by choice. they dont have the range to expand.

He didn't exactly blow up. he's a gold artist. if he did those song then he would actually blow up and sell like those who did. Females are a bigger portion of music consumption. if he did he wold sell more record like them, which he is in to do. So that's not a good thing to keep it "street" only. Wanna keep it strictly street stay out there. Wanna sell record attract as many fans as you can to make you sell, especially females. They don't wanna hear an album full of fake mafia stuff.

Jeezy is in the top 30 best rappers ever... i dont care wat none of ya'll say... dude has more swagger and sick punch lines than most of tha East Coast rappers to ever come out (none the less Westside niggaz too).  Ro$$, thats my nigga, even if he was a C.O., CO's always been gettin' that drug money- ask them niggaz up Central or Hagerstown.  but as far as his skills go, dude is sick too- he's like the Southern version of Biggie, and he's done a nice job putting himself in his own spotlight (instead of relying on other rappers).

But wats wrong wit' niggaz makin trax 4 da bitches... ya'll niggaz must not be gettin' no azz.  fuck it if a nigga sound soft, if the youngin(s) i'm wit' at the time vibin' to it, then I'm all good.  Radio & TV is 4 promo, not showcasin' skills... get wit' da new shit.

Preach. You're comparing a gold artist to artists with multiple platinum albums. Biggie and Pac mad tracks for chicks, and you can't even put "Candy Shop" in the same category as "Lollipop" or "Whatever You Like", 50 raps, them other cats is singing

I don't have to respect them for that. Their quality of music is still ass for the most part. Jeezy has a couple cool features on songs with good rappers but officer rawwsss, nah.

Jeezy has gone platinum twice and gold once. I would say he blew up. He's been one of the most consistently selling artists of the last 5 years. Ross first album went platinum, second gold. I would say that's pretty well as well.

There's nothing wrong with it, lol at talkin' 'bout how much pussy I get over the internet ::)  I ain't got a problem with "girl" tracks, but its the shit that "Lollipop" and "Whatever You Like" that I got a problem with - there not made to be girl appreciation tracks, there made because the artists know the cheesy tracks like that guarantee a plaque. I respect Ross/Jeezy for not doin that.

jeezy is one of the most popular rappers out today. he's in commercials and has endorsements. what is your definition of blowing up?

Yeah i agree i fucken hated "whatever you like" but "lollipop" was the shit (the TV version anyways... the electric guitar in the hook made it thump amillion times harder).  i aint mad at ppl's opinion but alotta times ppl just hate and never actually lissen to tha song, they hear it once or they lissen to tha first 30 seconds and IMMEDIATLY call it garbage.  now personally i know alotta ya'll dont agree but "lollipop" was the "how do u want it" of 2008, not nearly as classic but not nearly as shitty as the bloggers seem to claim.

Jeezy actually brought some nice songs on his new album, before that there were maybe 3 songs from him I liked (Crazy, Dreamin, err make that 2 songs). Ross on the other hand has always been weak to me. His constant yelling of Boss is annoying, and he bit both Freeway and Biggies styles. Hustlin was a good tune but Jay needed to hop n the remix to make it hot. Here I Am was alright cause of the hook and beat but other than that his musics either average or plain horrible aka Money makes me cum. smh

then not even knock his skill but how much he sells? ::)

so basically what your saying is Wayne is the best rapper, because his concerts get sold out first week the tix are on sale & because he is 3X platinum?

numbers have nothing to do with it, Kanye sold almost as much & that wasnt even Hip Hop lol.

people on here are saying they can name 30 better rappers than Jeezy, but there being nice. i know people can name 130 rappers better than Jeezy lol.

like i said, his first album was dope imo & i bumped it a lot. but his style got old quick & then since his first album, his music has been sounding identical (almost every song) & its boring.

Now if they get to 5, 6 albums like their southern counterparts TI and Ludacris and they are consistently selling and making hits then that will really say something. Besides I want to see Officer Ricky survive this onslaught 50 is about to put on him.

The saying they the last real dudes alive don't really bother me. Hell TI said he was the king of the south on his 1st album and now look at him. lol. The question is can or will you make music that last the test of time. When you make a brick of a album, can you bounce back and do the damn thing again like you did before. Show me something musically that makes me think you are not a gimmick. Everyone was complaining about Soulja Boy's stuff and look at his album now. Jeezy and Ross can only sell soooo much crack until that gets tiresome. So yeah it will be interesting to see how their careers end up.

Jeezys first and 3rd albums were dope, and "I Love It" is a personal classic to me, I've never had time for Ross...

But on success level, yeah they're both huge in the States, but elsewhere? Nah homie. I've never heard or seen a Ross or Jeezy video on commercial radio or tv over here in New Zealand, and the only reason alotta my mates know who they are is cos I put them onto Jeezy. And I'm only 21, their music aint getting play in clubs over here. 50, Wayne, Em, Jay, Nas is, that's the difference between real rap superstars, worldwide appeal, compared to just blowing up in their own country...
Title: Re: Something You Have To Respect Rick Ross & Young Jeezy for...

TI, Wayne, 50 have SOME appeal to women

Rick Ross and Jeezy aren't doing it because they are not women friendly

trust me, they'd do what those other guys do if they could
Wayne is one ugly mother fucker lol. Women will think ANY RAPPER is hot if they make a song about women which they like.

no shit he looks like a psycho, but compare Weezy to Ross making a love song and there is your answer

Ross would play it up as much as possible if it were a main reason to sell records

but he has that trash drug rap to front to the younger generation, while looking ridiculous to anyone with common sense in the process

yea we know everything every rapper says isn't always true, but he's just a joke for the kids, it's interesting when grown men cop it though

Ross won't last that long. His whole image is one style, people get bored of hearing him saying Boss every record. Tbh most of the southern rappers haven't broken into the UK market since maybe last year. Wayne got a bit of success with the Carter III but that was mainly cause of the hype he had in America. TI had two hits but one was cause of Rihanna and the other he was singing, so he kind of sold out to break into the UK.

Before that only Luda had a consistent string of hits in the UK. Ross and Jeezy haven't really had a big impact... 50 choose a good rapper to take on in Ross cause I could see people getting bored of him quick.

...They don't release bullshit female friendly singles in order to blow up.

Well they don't make female friendly songs but they do release bullshit. Whereas Lil Wayne & T.I. attract teen girls with club/dance songs, Rick and Jeezy cater teenage boys with bling bling songs full of gangsta cliches. Jeezy and Rick are corporate dicksuck rappers just like 50, Wayne and T.I. are , so I don't see a reason why they should get any props.

...Now you see this is the dumb and ignorant shit I'm talking about! grouping all southern artists as being the same because they are from the same region. LMAO at TIP "aint going nowhere" when he is SIX ALBUMS DEEP already and has sold over 8 million records already in the USA alone.
