i swear every time you feel like your stressing and need a cig... chew a piece of gum and work out or run or swim or do a hobbie get your mind off of it
if you can do it for two weeks atleast you will never need a cig again
especially once your done with them you will go back to thinking how gross they are

well mate good luck to you. I quit last year and will have quite smoking for a year this april. if you need any advice just ask because ive went through it all. to be fair it took me about 5 attempts to quit until i finally achieved it. it can be done but it is hard, if anything the hardest thing is the whole habbit thing i.e. when i went round a friends house id always have a cigerette when i got there or when i went out to the pub id light a cigerette when i got my first drink, overocming them things is the biggest hurdle not the actual nicotine.
and just to let you know i still crave cigerettes now and that craving will probabley be with me for the rest of my life, its something youve got to overcome mentally and to overcome that? only you can do that, no patches, no tablets, no substitutes...nothing!!! But once youve achieved it mate then you'l be proud of what you have done. The health benifits far outweight the preceived feel good benefits you get from smoking, THEY ARE NOT REAL. also dont be put off if after a week you have a sly half on, its not then end of he world! dont stat up again just use that set back as extra motiviation.

I just quit myself. I've was on and off since I was 16 and two-three years ago I became a full time smoker. This Thursday will be three weeks without a cig. It's funny the first 5 days were easy and then I got withdrawls for a few days pretty bad but they subsided and have been minor up until yesterday. The past couple of days I've been stressed and fiending for one but I'll get through it. I went too far to go back. I'm not going lie I miss them a lot but it's nice not waking up and not having the feeling my lungs are filled with sludge. I don't have to force myself to workout. I'm saving 50-60 bucks a week. It just sucks b/c I haven't hung out in 2 an a half weeks b/c all my friends smoke and I'm not ready to be around that yet lol. But good luck with quitting man.

Yeah I've never smoked but I've seen people go through ups and downs.they can be real jerks when their quitting!ha ha.

I'm also tryiing.. I quit for over a year but then I started again and its so much harder now. On my most recent attempt, I quit for 10 days, then i bought a pack, then 7 and bought a pack, then another 7 and bought a pack. i'm currently on day 3 of my fourth try...
The thing that helped me alot was having something to drink when I want a cig.. Weird but it worked...
I want those herbal cigarettes the actors use that don't have tobacco or additives in them lol, would make it alot easier...

Both my parents smoke and I still started smoking. Strange. Of course, I started with Newports because they got me higher after I smoked a blunt. Then I started coughing up blood from the fiberglass in the filter and quit that with the quickness. Now I'm on American Spirit ultra lights until I can kick the habit.

Been smoking bout 10 years now, since I was 15 and it's a battle I'll tell ya. I think my longest run without a stoge was 6 months and I really though I was going to make it all the way. One night drinking it all went down the drain. Good luck to ya!

Good work. I made it about a week, them my friend came over with his $2 a pack smokes from Wisconsin and it was over. If I didn't have to deal with idiots all day long at my job, I'd for sure be able to quit.

23 days w/o a bogie. I played cards last night and everyone else was smoking and I didn't have one. I came close to bumming one a couple of times but I got over it. And truth be told after a while all the smoke started to bother me. I'm not going lie though, I still miss them.

I can't speak for everyone but I started because studies show smoking may fight off the effects of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. OK the real reason is when I was younger life sucked and ciggs took the edge off the stress. You say to yourself I won't get hooked but everyone does. I can't speak for everyone but with myself I wasn't looking to get hooked. You know how addictive they are but when you're young and dumb you think you are stronger than that.

Same can be said for any sort of drug abuse. I highly doubt that there's a lot of people trying to start using or smoking so they can develop an addiction, but it just happens. I've heard a lot of folks say they don't have an addictive personality and they will be fine, but it's just not that easy.

Having an addictive personality doesn't play that big of a factor though. I used to do a few different drugs back in high school, but I was able to quit those no problem. Cigs are the only thing I have ever truly been addicted to. It's more psychological than anything, like smoking after a meal, or driving. Nicotine itself only stays in your system for a couple of days, it's getting over the triggers that cause cravings that is the tough part.

Yeah I get that, it's just natural for people to get a work break and smoke a cig, etc.. I was shooting down the addictive personality thing, I think a lot of people just use that as an excuse. People don't have the foresight or understanding to realize how much they will become attached to them. But those triggers are a big problem, it becomes habit to light one up.

Imagine if you were told gummy bears took away your stress, so you started eating them, but the gummy bear people put a chemical in the gummy bears that made it INCREDIBLY stressfull anytime you tried to stop eating them. Mad props to everybody getting off them jank ass cigs. I went years w/o any tobacco whatsoever, but I'm still guilty of bummin smokes when I'm out drinkin and shit. I'm not physically addicted and it would be nothing for me to never have one again. However, maybe I am a bit addicted in some way because if I'm out of green and can't get any for a couple days I will have a cig.

I quit in january '08 and havent had 1 cig since then..had been smokin for 14 years too. and i quit cold turkey. no self help bullshit, no gums, no nothing. everything is will power.

5 months now and did it cold turkey. I won't lie a day doesn't go by where I don't miss them. Sometimes it will be for a split second sometimes it will be for a minute or two. Still the best move i ever made.

The fucked up shit is one of my closest friends is giving me shit about not fuckin with it anymore. Like he wants me to keep doin that shit so he'll feel better about himself doin it. Pretty fuckin wack in my opinion...but anyway if any of your homies are trying to dissuede you from quitting just know that you're doin the right thing. Peace
