Title: Chelsea vs Barcelona
Post by: $anchez on April 27, 2009, 12:15:28 PM
Although both Chelsea and Barcelona have been on great form lately, some are keen to see Messi give Hiddink's men a run in.  As a Chelsea supporter I wish that Ashley Cole hadn't been suspended but the suspension may give Chelsea a better game and a harder task to deal with.

What are your thoughts?

Barca for me. I really wish Cashley was playing though, as Messi would tear him a new arsehole.

Can Chelsea be moved to Serie A next year ? ... I know their style of play has always been this one and is efficient but a team with talented players with a such boring game (or should I say which refuses to play)  is ... pathetic
Title: Re: Chelsea vs Barcelona

Barca had 70% possession :o

...but still couldn't score. Guus had a plan in mind here and that to avoid conceding via a disciplined defensive performance.

Interesting to see how the 2nd leg shapes up and if Chelsea "park the bus" in front of goal again - but if Guus Hiddink comes up with another masterplan and gets them through to the final, I can only respect his gangsta lol.

I already wrote that weeks ago. ManU won't win the title this year, and  Arsenal is Arsenal (= they have the potential, but are not clever enough)

Chelsea= Champions_League winner 2008/09  :-X

Messi best player in world ? LMAO .. he couldnt even do shit against a player playing Left back for the first time in his career. Ronaldo gets heavily criticised for being a big game flop but Messi is on par if not worse then Ronny when it comes to big game floppage. Thats another big knockout later stage game he has flopped in.

CL vs man u last season(twice)
WC quater final vs Germany 2006
Copa America final vs brazil 2007

he can do Maradona runs and goals against shit teams but to even consider comparing him to Maradona he has to turn it on in the big games.

^^ u cant judge messi on that 1 game last nite. he's probabley been part of 50 great moments this year in terms of his brilliance, every player has a dissapointing game now and again and dont play to there potential. i think chelsea deserve alot of credit tho for swarming him whenever he had the ball, also inesta is fantastic, i probabley only get to see the odd game of his i.e. champisons league and for spain national etc but what a player he is.

lol u dont think Chelsea will score ?

everyone was saying the same thing about Barca last season, how they would steamroll Man UTd. Yet Man Utd bearly had to break sweat to beat them.

Yes Barca put 6 past Real, but Real is only on the level of a top 5-8 prem team and is known for sacrificing defensive reliability in pursuit of attacking football and goals. Chelsea and the prem top 4  are far superior defensively then any team in la liga physically and tactically that Barca have to face week in week out.

Also Barcelona defence is much poorer then Chelsea's. u got a Man Utd reject and a 5ft 10 centre back who relies purely on pace and strength and is ver poor positionally. Then u got a natural winger playing at RB and a 30 something french CB playing at LB.

I've seen all the incidents in slow-motion, and there's only 1 clear penalty for Chelsea.. and that's the Anelka/Pique situation..

Drogba is a known cheater, and neither of the times he fell was a penalty..
Eto'o's alleged handball at the end is not a handball, he's hit right between the back of his shoulder and where the arm begins.. part of the body.

5 game ban for Drogba would be appropriate for being a moron at the end.

Title: Re: Chelsea vs Barcelona
Post by: Furor Teutonicus on May 06, 2009, 02:07:42 PM
Wow the ref was really weak.

I think 2 were clear penalties, but Chelsea have to blame themselves. Anelka with his cheap dive was one of the reasons, I bet without the red card Chelsea would've gotten atleast one penalty. He had a good position to score, but he prefered to cheat. So I say it was poetic justice. Besides that, Chelski had enough opportunities to finish Barca, Barca was weakened and had only 10 players.

the referee was man of the match

runner up was Iniesta. Iniesta for me is the real superstar. He needs to be better marketed by the people around him, so that he is better perceived. Perception is the most important thing in life if u wanna get somewhere.

First all he needs to find himself a spanish legend to call himself after so that he can be called "new (name of legend)" the way france and argentina call every new kid the new/next Zidane/Maradona.

Secondly he needs to get a few pundits saying he's the best player in the world. Fans and kids hear this and repeat it 1000 times.

damn why didnt i get a job in marketing/public relations  ???

Guus Hiddink admitted he could understand why his players had cried 'conspiracy' after a string of controversial refereeing decisions denied Chelsea a place in the Champions League final.

Andres Iniesta's stoppage-time equaliser earned Barcelona a scarcely-deserved 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening and sent the Catalans into a final meeting with Manchester United on the away goals rule.

Hiddink admitted his side, who had performed with superb discipline in the goalless first leg and gone ahead in the tie through a stunning Michael Essien strike, had contributed to their own downfall by failing to take the chances they had to kill the match.

But that did not stop him from branding the performance of Norwegian official Tom Henning Ovrebo - who turned down a string of strong penalty appeals by Chelsea - as the worst he had seen in his long coaching career.

"Of course, players make many mistakes, coaches make many mistakes and referees can make mistakes. Okay, so it happens. It's all in the game. But when you see two, three or four situations waved away, then, yes, it is the worst I have seen."

The Dutchman acknowledged Chelsea should have capitalised on the extent to which they dominated Wednesday's match, with Iniesta's late, late strike the first shot the visitors had got on target all night.

"It is quite a disappointment that we did not finish it," Hiddink said. "We can be critical of that. But it was the overall feeling of being robbed, of an injustice. That it why it was so hot and angry in the dressing room. I could fully understand the feeling of the players."

Chelsea might have had as many as four penalties and some of the players were quick to link the referee's performance to a belief that UEFA did not want another all-English final in the wake of last year's dull stalemate between the Londoners and Manchester United.

Hiddink however distanced himself from such theories. "Conspiracy is a very tough word and, if there is, you have to prove it," he said.

"Obviously there is a lot written and said prior to this game. I can only mention what I see. I cannot say whether UEFA wouldn't like another English final."

Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola acknowledged Chelsea may have had grounds for complaint but claimed the Londoners also contributed to their own downfall by attempting to sit on their lead.

"I can understand that Chelsea can be disappointed about the performance of the referee," Guardiola said. "I did not see the penalties they say there were but it is possible that there were.

"You have to give us credit though. We tried to win the game, we tried to take the ball and create chances. We did not create so much but I expected Chelsea to create a little bit more pressure."

Barcelona looked dead and buried when Eric Abidal was sent off (another mistake by the referee) with almost 25 minutes left, but Guardiola never lost faith.

"We kept going and we were persistent to the end," he said. "Don't forget we played 25 minutes ten against 11 and Chelsea stayed back. It was difficult enough 11 against 11 so we are so happy to have scored."

Despite Guardiola's positive spin, Barca did little in either leg of the semi-final to suggest they are capable of preventing Manchester United from becoming the first side to retain the European Cup since the introduction of the Champions League format.

Chelsea thoroughly deserved the lead they established with a goal that breathtakingly demonstrated that the Catalans do not enjoy a monopoly on technical excellence.

Frank Lampard's attempted chip was deflected by Yaya Toure into Essien's path and, from just beyond the arc on the edge of the penalty area, the Ghanaian midfielder unleashed a left-foot volley that rattled into the net off the underside of the bar.

Barcelona, in contrast, failed to muster a shot on target until Iniesta's late strike and Chelsea might have won at a canter with a different official.

Daniel Alves was fortunate not to concede a first-half penalty in a wrestling match with Florent Malouda that started outside but continued into the area.

Abidal's tug on Didier Drogba's shirt might have earned a spot-kick soon afterwards and handballs by Gerard Pique and Samuel Eto'o also went unpunished after the break.

But it was also true that Drogba twice failed to find the net when he had only Victor Valdes to beat and Hiddink acknowledged that Chelsea had to look at themselves with the same scrutiny they applied to the referee.

"Outside of the penalties we had two or three chances in open play which we should have taken," Hiddink said. "Then we would not have had all this fuss about the penalties."

If you watch the Malouda incident a couple of times, you will see that Alves pulls his shirt/drags his arm OUTSIDE of the penalty box, and then when Malouda is forced out of balance, he falls inside the penalty area because he leans towards Alves.. Furthermore, the referee can pull an incident out of the box if he believes it's not a foul worthy of penalty, even if it happens inside the box.. there's no way Malouda would have a goal-scoring opportunity there facing the wrong way.

Toure and Drogba were equally good, Drogba grabbed Toure equally as much.. and this happened outside of the penalty box, the tackle inside the box was clean.
50/50-situation, maybe Toure grabbed him a little more..

i'm happy for barca, but there were at least 2 penalties for chelsea

I've seen all the incidents in slow-motion, and there's only 1 clear penalty for Chelsea.. and that's the Anelka/Pique situation..
how bout the foul on Malouda, he was clearly in the box, or Toure grabbing Drogba...but Chelsea had enough chances to score 2nd goal, so it's also their own fault

it wasn't even a real fault,c'mon
