At first I was happy to see this was going to get on MTV and MTV2, but I just previewed the song, and the song is cliche' and it's trash.  You know I'm tired of hearing about how these dudes were supposed to blow up, and that the record labels have failed them.  Maybe they've failed themselves, because Royce hasn't been tight since 2001, Budden and Crooked were never tight, and Dre dropped Joel Ortiz for a reason.

I never got into Budden, even though I really tried, and Crooked was too repetitive for me. I liked Royce a lot more on guest appearances and mix tapes than on his own albums, and I never even knew who Ortiz was until this group was announced. I do find it silly and stupid that they are getting into a beef with Wu Tang. So I guess I agree with you hear. The track One isn't anything special to me either.

It's certainly not this great posse cut

-Royce is still tight - peep the new EP
Crooked & Joe Budden aren't tight? Are you crazy? Crooked is probably the best MC out right now - and Raekwon from the Wu would pretty much co-sign that. Unless you are only familiar with the "Pump it Up" Joe Budden, because he has been INSANE on the Mic since then ("Padded Room" is a great album)

Dre dropped Joell for a reason? Same reason he dropped Rakim, King Tee and Raekwon? Is that because there bad MC's or they don't have money making mainstream potential? Just because Dre dropped him doesn't mean he ain't tight...Dr. Dre has one thing on his agenda and that is to make money.

I'm feeling the beat...but damn Crooked I's verse sounds like a generic Em verse from Relapse. I guess even Slaughterhouse needs a song where they rap about bitches. Hope this is the only song like this on the album.

Your right, and so far they have disappointed me.  I thought they represented some hope for hip-hop.  The idea sounded good, Khalil producin beats, and 4 supposedly "under-rated" emcee's hookin up.  Then because I'm an old school West Coast fan I give some respect to Crooked, and Joel Ortiz was once wit Dre, so I was given him a chance to.

I guess now I understand why Death Row never released a Crooked I album and why Dre dropped Joel Ortiz.  As for Royce, he's one of my all time favorite rappers, but from 99-2001 every song he put out was fire... and now maybe 1 out of 20 songs he releases is dope.

I'm just really turned off by the direction they are going in with the first single.  It's like some Smut Peddlars type shit is what it reminds me of.  I wish they would of came more like Wu-Tang but instead they are beefin wit them.

...and btw, I forgot to mention Joe Budden, I've still yet to hear anything from him I felt was worth more than one listen.

I find myself getting into a lot of early 90s alternative rap lately. Specfically the harder stuff like EPMD, Onyx, Pharcyde, but even the softer stuff like Brand Nubian.

Getting into rap as a west coast fan I ignored most that other stuff for years.

and wasnt this the same group-of rappers that said they are doin this for the fans of hip-hop?

Word.  Maybe the label liked the song, and when they recorded it they all told each other "yeah it's dope" just because they didn't want to bruise anybody's fragile ego, and have him start crying like that do on all their records ("ohh my shit is so dope, I'm so under-rated, blah blah blah).  But after this I'm startin to think these guys aren't under-rated and getting what they deserve.  This was their big chance, and they are finally getting the promotion they "deserve" and now they are showing they were un-deserving all along.

I'm not one of those people that complains about mainstream singles.  I like a lot of mainstream rap singles that got hated on over the years.  Examples are tracks like "My Name Is" or "Real Slim Shady".   Maybe I am too nostalgic and can't help but compare this music to what was done in the 90's; but it's not because I expected them to come hardcore with the first single.  In fact, I thought "Rock City" was a great single back in the day and my favorite song on Royce's first album.  I would put that song up there with his hard core joints from bootlegs that came out around 2000/2001.

I really think these guys have an ego problem, and the four of them get in a room and anything that comes out they tell each other that it is hott.. and then they blame the record labels or pop fans when other people don't like it.  Maybe Royce was better in his earlier days cause he didn't have that ego.

Let's be real... Is there anyway to come more cliche, more un-origional, and more played out then the chorus to your first single repeating "Drugs, Sex, Dirty Money"!!!?

The only thing I worse I could think of would be to say.. "Bling bling, I'm a G, Got my bitches, High on X and weed!!"

RAKIM HASNT PUT OUT BOMB VERSES SINCE AFTERMATH!?  You gotta dig my dude.  They're some gems out there..

JOELL IS BETTER THAN ANYONE ON AFTERMATH RIGHT NOW (aside form Em)

Go listen to the chorus of Rock City, try and tell me that ain't lame?  But it works cuz it's a jam...

Choruses are supposed to be simple-minded..

Joell was smart to leave Aftermath. He didn't get overly hyped up by working with Dre - was realistic about the long term prospects of getting an album out over there. He wasn't dropped to my understanding either, they mutually agreed that he could leave and they cut a cheque for his services so far. He'd have been an idiot to stick around and be waiting forever for a release. He obviously understood about the corny label politics over there.

As it stands he's now part of one of the most exciting projects for years and getting way more buzz and exposure for his solo music.

While I understand why they would go with the beat and hook to appeal to the mainstream (I thought it was catchy), they could've done a lot better with the lyrics. Shit its not like kids listening to MTV care about lyrics anyways so they could've at least blessed the real fans with some heat instead of trying to emulate Eminem.

no doubt.

Joell honestly, wouldn't sound that much better over a Dre beat.

a guy like 50 Cent needs Dre beats to sound dope on bangers & such.

Joell makes deeper music, where the beats i hear him spit over are more than enough; he is a lyricist, straight up. he doesn't need a "Dre banger" to carry him along; he can carry himself with his lyrics over any beat.

smart move & now he is going to go places farther than he ever would have been givin' the opprotunity to go, if he was still on Aftermath.

I wish we could go back to the days of "Nuttin But A G Thang" where the video hoe ends up get sprayed with beer.  It was clear that Dre and Snoop were the stars of the video and that no video hoe was going to show them up.  But I promise the biggest star of the Slaughterhouse video will be the video hoe.   Royce, Crooked, Budden and Ortiz are just the supporting cast; the main characters are the video hoes.

Why can't the music speak for itself?  To me it means you are wack, when you got to get a video hoe to try and make your song hott.

This song is nothing like we made you.Doing drugs and having sex with celebrities?Really eminem is the only rapper to rap about that?Really?

I wish we could go back to the days of "Nuttin But A G Thang" where the video hoe ends up get sprayed with beer.  It was clear that Dre and Snoop were the stars of the video and that no video hoe was going to show them up.  But I promise the biggest star of the Slaughterhouse video will be the video hoe.   Royce, Crooked, Budden and Ortiz are just the supporting cast; the main characters are the video hoes.

Why can't the music speak for itself?  To me it means you are wack, when you got to get a video hoe to try and make your song hott.

Even in 92 the video hoe thing was stupid and juvenile. The difference is that back in 92 we were stupid and juvenile too.

The single is wack.  Still like most of the material.   I know I'm not going to feel everything an artist does.  That's life.

^But I think your taking it a bit far and it comes off as hating. Especially when you said "no wonder Dre dropped Joell" like Dre ain't dropped people like Raekwon, King Tee & Rakim in the past.

how do we know what those cats were coming up with in the studio?  I mean, look what they've done since Dre dropped them?  Have Rakim, Raekwon, or King Tee done anything groundbreaking since Dre dropped them?  Hell no.

I think "Thy Kingdom Come" was a very solid album.  And while it may not have been as innovative as "The Slim Shady LP" was at the time, I don't think it's reasonable to say that it was dropped from being released because it was a lackluster album.  I'm a huge Dr. Dre fan, but I'm not willing to defend him to the point of saying that everyone who was dropped from Aftermath Records, was dropped because they couldn't turn out good material.  I don't think Dre would have even wasted his time producing for those artists, if he thought the material they recorded was going to be sub-par.

If nothing else, I hope this at least sparks something different in hip-hop because it needs it. Rap music is missing the diversity. If you look at the 90's and I know it's a cliche to point to the era as some kind of defining time but I'm using it here as more of a comparison. You had artists who might not have been multi-platinum crossover artists but they sold enough records to be relevant. It wasn't like they were playing DJ Quik videos on MTV every hour but the stations and publications still gave him coverage. Today, it's like you either have a song that gets played in the club or you're not even mentioned. I'm not against club hip-hop but it needs to be more than the same nine or ten artists dominatig the airwaves on every radio station every year. Especially when it all appeals to the same demographic. I miss the days when you could have Busta Rhymes, Ice Cube, Nas, Bone Thugs, Wu-Tang, Biggie, Tupac, Snoop, Outkast, and all these different artists from different regions coming out. There might be Cool J doing some R&B-type shit but you always had something like Mobb Deep to fall back on if you weren't feeling the other shit. I'm not saying we can't have Lil Wayne, T.I., Rick Ross, 50 Cent, whoever but the game would be more interesting if they mixed in a little Crooked I, Tech N9ne, Saigon, Termanology, Jayo Felony, and the rest of these rappers who have their own styles and shit. And the buck don't stop with the radio stations, it's the rappers picking guest spots too. They all gotta have the same name features on their albums so now, everyone's shit sounds the fucking same. Do none of these artists have a favorite rapper that they wanna put on their album just because he's fucking dope and not because he sells 90,000 records?

The thing I like with the "Slaughterhouse" idea is it takes fans who might only buy one of these artists' albums and exposes them to these other artists who they might not necessarily check for.

"Thy Kingdom Come" was actually pretty dope.  I don't think Dre could have hoped for much more than that when he signed King Tee.  So I'd have to agree with you that I don't think it would of tarnished Dre's standards to go ahead and release that album back in Summer of 98' when it was supposed to drop.

I was just trying to make a point that I was tired of hearing Slaughterhouse complain about how labels had fucked them because they didn't understand "real hip-hop" and then they put out some trash like "The One" that basically justifies the underachievement they've experienced throughout their careers.

Well, I'll agree that "The One" isn't that great of a track.  At least not by the standards of what I expect from Slaughterhouse.  But like it or not, it does have that pop song kind of feel like a lot of songs that end up being hits on the radio.
You made the argument that the standards of what merits a good single seem to have dropped, over the years.  You may have a point.  It seems like rap music in general has embraced a mentality where they have to release at least one semi-inoffensive track that can be cleaned up for radio and "make the girls wanna dance."  But this mentality hasn't at all, seemed to yield better music.  This is why I gave up on the radio a long time ago (And MTV, for that matter).
The main point I was trying to make though, with regards to Slaughterhouse, is that I don't believe the track "The One" will be typical of what's on the rest of the album.  Of course, no one knows for sure, since that's the only confirmed album cut that's been released.  But if you look at the tracks they released early on (Onslaught, Move On Remix, Slaughterhouse Remix) and the track they just released on Royce's e.p. (Warriors), I think this is more like what will be on the album.
As far as the whining, I can see how that could get tired.  But I haven't really noticed Slaughterhouse whining any more than what I hear most other rappers doing.  If there's anything that's wearing thin with me and this group, it's the wait to hear the material.  I'm still holding out hope that the August release date will stick.  But being that things have already shifted with the release dates of the other solo projects (which were originally all supposed to drop prior to the Slaughterhouse album) I'm a little worried the group album will follow suit.
I guess the best attitude to take with all of this is "wait-and-see."  If the album drops, and then you still think it's sub-par, I guess we can debate it more then.
