Title: Bishop Lamont - The Reformation . . . . Your Album
Post by: Paul on August 04, 2009, 07:43:29 AM
If you could make a 15 track Reformation of all the Bishop songs that have been released so far what would it be
I think there is a good selection of material he has given out for free

Mines -

1. Halleluja Feat Xzibit
2. Send A Nigga Home
3. If You Dont Know The Code Feat 50 Cent
4. Bitches On My Dick
5. First They Love You Feat Indef & Pr1me
6. Grow Up
7. Right
8. One Night
9. City Lights
10. No Stoppin Carson
11. 4 All My Niggaz Feat Planet Asia, Ya Boy & Mistah Fab
12. On Top Now Feat Stat Quo
13. Cant Figure It Out
14. Africa
15. Anyway Feat Mike Ant

I think it has a good balance in it, Near Perfect production and good features and alot of singles material

Just my opinion mind  :)

i'd go for quite a lot of different tracks, in no particular order:

up and down
hallelujah
hood psalm
no stoppin' carson
bitches on my dick (purely because of the production)
africa
donkey kong savage
can't figure it out
all i dream about
music shit
american dreams
grow up
first they love you
the greatest trick (properly mixed)
nothing could be better (without suga free)

4. Don't Come Around Here (ft.50 Cent version if it actually exists...)
5. Oh My God

I respect Dr.Dre just for hooking Bishop up with all these dope producers and allowing him to release all this god damn dope material.   But my gut tells me the really dope sounding shit hasn't even been released yet.

For example, It Hurts leaked and that beat is on another level.  That beat is on some futuristic album shit.  Even the Hallelujah beat sounds weak compared to It Hurts.

I prefer the beat.  The variation from how it highlights the keys to the different drums used in Hurts sound superior than

Hallelujah is the better content.

Whatever, it's like comparing apples and orange.  I love'em both.

'it hurts' wasn't really that impressive to me, not even on my top 15 list. but i agree that bishop's best material has gotta be his unreleased stuff, namely his work with dre. likelyhood is it will remain unreleased forever. we'll never hear those tracks intended for earlier versions of 'the reformation' and that's a real shame because most of my selections are from his older material :'(

Whatever, it's like comparing apples and orange.  I love'em both.
you mean that the part you just described, makes Hallelujah sound simple?
fair enough  ;)
by the way, the whiny sound effect should have been left out from the instrumental of It Hurts, IMO

anyway, to be honest, i was a little shocked by some of the songs that were chosen. i'm not going to disrespect anyone's opinion though ;)
i just think it's a bit sad that there's a demand for (Bishop Lamont's) club songs, but if that's what you want to hear, then so be it!  :)

i might make my own list later, but i have the feeling that i've done this before.
then again, i could be mixing it up with a different topic

nobody else chose 'all i dream about' :-[ easily one of bishop's dopest tracks - production, flow, everything. and for subject matter 'the greatest trick' is really on point, speaking on some real shit.

'if you dont know the code' seems to be popular, but i was more surprised to see that 'exclusive' track mentioned :-\ corny stuff...

Should have included a poll with every Bishop song and everybody can only pick 20 tracks. I remember doing something like that a year ago, but a lots changed since then. If anybody wants I can create a thread with the poll i mentioned, but I know people don't like so many Bishop threads at the same timie.

that track is pretty damn similar to that other new bishop track 'err'day in the streets' and it certainly belongs in the same place (trash can). maybe its the new detox sound?

if slim the mobster actually puts an album out on aftermath i won't know what to say :-\

i just find it comical based on bishop not being able to release his album.

I've actually been meaning to make a thread like this for awhile but could never quite lock down the songs I would put on it myself, but here goes..

1. It's Bishop [Prod. J. Wells]  I know it's old as hell but it's still one of the only songs where everything works for Bishop. J. Wells Provides a banging beat, Bishops flow is aggresive and the lyrics work.  It's a good introduction to Bishop.

2.My Inheritance [Prod. Focus?]  Another old track but it's a personal favourite, Lays out the state of music on the west coast and states Bishops intention to bring it back.

3.Goatit Ft. Phat Kat & Elzhi  [Prod. Black Milk]  From a technical Standpoint the tightest verse Bishop's ever done (IMO). He goes nuts and to leave this of would be a shame.

4.All I Dream About Ft. Pooh Bear [Prod. Scott Storch] An underrated Bishop song, One of a few Bishop Songs I can dance to and it's not corny, I love Pooh Bear on the hook.

5. Inconvenient Truth Ft. Black Milk [Prod. DJ Khalil] Bishop and Black Milk speaking the truth about the state of hip-hop what's not to like.

6. N*gger [Prod. Diverse]  Goes from complaining about hip-hop to speaking on racism in our day and age, this could be replaced with american dreaming, but i like the verse on this one better and i like how he points out the hypocrisies of using the word.

7.Greatest Trick [Prod. D Porter]  Another track of Bishop speaking on the ills of society. Mr Porter provides a great Instrument and bishops lyrics hit home.  As would others i'd loved this mixed properly.

8.Street Theology [Prod. Mark Batson] How you could have a performer's name like Bishop Lamont and not have a song on your CD that tackles the Church.  Instrumental is a little weak and the subject matter may not be for everyone but i still like it.

9.Hallelujah Ft. Xzibit [Prod. Dr Dre] Continues with the Church feeling from the previous song.

10. Grow Up [Prod. Dr. Dre] Great summertime beat and track.

11. Milf Ft. Wendy Vaughn [Prod. Diverse]  This little known (At least little discussed) song that has long been a personal favourite of mine.  It's his funniest track with some great storytelling and punchlines. Plus Bishop isn't that great at making club dance songs so why not go with something a little different?

12.Everyday [Prod. Diverse] Possibly one of Bishop's most inspiring and sentimental tracks, this song just works.

13.I Allways Knew [Prod. Cool and Dre ] Another Uplifting track. Bishop gets introspective.

14. On Top Now Ft. Black Milk & Stat Quo [Prod. DJ Khalil] braggadocio and tight verses from all three plus the beat bangs.

15. No Stoppin Carson [Prod. Dr. Dre] Ends on a high energy note with a simplistic yet effective Dre beat.

Bonus Tracks.

16. Friends [Prod Hi Tek]

17. It Hurts [Prod. Dready Beats] Love the Keys on the instrumental, Bishop is Meh.

18. I'm a Soldier [Prod. Da Riffs?] Another old favourite track.

I tried to make a cohesive thematic flow for the LP rather than just a collection of songs. I didn't really know where to put milf but it's a personal favourite so it had to go on.  A mix of older and newer songs but i think it works.

Here's the one i made after "the confessional" dropped :

1) It's bishop
2) Street theology
3) Grow up
4) No stoppin
5) Feel on it
6) Send a nigga home
7) On top now
8) Fuck your couch
9) First they love you
10) Posted (with glasses)
11) Up and down (was the first official street single about 10 years ago)
12) Hood psalm
13) Caltroit
14) Go at it
15) Inconvenient truth
16) It hurts
17) Gorilla pimpin (DOPE verse from BL)
18) All i ask you (last verse is insane)

Now i would add "Hallelujah" of course.
There are about 10 other tracks which i think are dope album cuts (afrika, cant figure it out, nothing could be better...)

Keep up the good work Bishop, i hope he'll really get that BIG spot on the Detox album to get major exposure. He deserves it.

PS : is the "no country for oldmen" project over ?

Good list! Looks like a real hip-hop selection, most of the corny tracks have been avoided. Plus you chose 'All I Dream About' - easily one of the best album calibre Bishop joints.

Even the Hallelujah beat sounds weak compared to It Hurts.
not really, if you ask me

he has a point though...Bishop needs to drop ''It Hurts'' mastered, or just even the instrumental is enough for me...it could be my favorite beat ever...it's just on some 2030 shit  8)

OK I got a question

Does anyone have If You Don't Know the Code the full song?
Title: Re: Bishop Lamont - The Reformation . . . . Your Album

If you don't know the code - should be on the Reformation, with a verse from 50 at least thats the plan
All on my dick - the confessional
Bitches on my Dick - Pr1me Presents Stylafornia, was a Reformation track at on point may still be but likely a leftover
Ain't no Other nigga - Young and Reckless Mixtape Presented By Drama Beats, It's not out yet, no idea when it drops
Nothing could be better - not sure but i think it's a Reformation Track
Up & Down - old street single, not on any projects
Friends - DJ Warrior and Peter Parker Presents Loud Vol.1 Sounds like a Reformation Leftover to me (no confirmation of this)
Don't come around here - same song as if you don't know the code i thought.
We aint' gangsta's - no idea although i think there is a longer version with another rapper on it, I just have the bishop verse.
Missile Testing - not on a project although maybe Team America based on his Kim Jung Scrill impersonation at the end.(just my speculation), I think it's just a standalone diss track

The Example Id use would be Hallelujah, I know the whole album won't be bangers like that but after hearing that joint i have faith the albums going to be crazy, production wise that is.  I just hope bishop doesn't simplify his flow or lyrics to try to be more mainstream.

As per my review I love the It hurts Intrumental too though, The mixing of synth and piano, crazy,

i dunno its all opinions, but i feel like my list is closest to an actual hip-hop album rather than the next g-unit cd, even though there's still a few corny tracks on there.
like this one:

http://www.youtube.com/v/UILQhtR8f5g

?

haha  like my girl is the game with her titties out...

that track is pretty damn similar to that other new bishop track 'err'day in the streets' and it certainly belongs in the same place (trash can). maybe its the new detox sound?

if slim the mobster actually puts an album out on aftermath i won't know what to say :-\
yeah i mean, good for slim that he got signed, but he's in, while Bishop's out?
slim even mocked Bishop  :P

reup

LOL at you asking for a re-up after some of the statements you've made about Bishop. So, now what - you checking for him?

smh @ Dre not liking Grow Up but actually liking and releasing "We Made You" as the first single... disgusting

As previously said Grow Up beat > any beat on Relapse

We Made You beat is actually heat, and Grow Up was a weak track

the fact that Bishop leaked sht himself will be the reason he never drops on Aftermath

Commenting about Bishop is pointless.  You're always in opposition.

it may only seem that way because he's been an utter disappointment, otherwise I have no issue with him

he's just an incredibly average rapper who somehow got linked up with Dre

much thanks bro!! props to you!!

I have a couple question:

1) do you know who produced Too Much Godfather?  (i knew it but i forgot)

2) btw, ive noticed that, although it is tagged, it is pretty well mixed...did you really get it from that Whoo Kid version of The Confessional or did someone else (like Octo) hook you up??

3) I know ''It Hurts'' isn't out there untagged and properly mixed, but do you perhaps have it in a better quality (like Too Much Godfather) ??

thanks in advance ;)

the size on some tracks are bigger because they're aiff-audio files (better than mp3, CDQ) ripped from DJ Whoo Kid's CD version of The Confessional.

I don't have an untagged copy of 'It Hurts' which should include a Dr. Dre verse.

LOL @ Bishop seeing Snoop on any level except wackness, the only track that I ever thought was decent was Grow Up, and that turned out to be the ultimate irony of a song as he trued to start some fake beef with Game to help no buzz having ass

Have you heard Hallelujah feat. Xzibit (produced by Dre) ? Bishop has a lot of tracks with weak delivery but this track is great from Bishop, to Dre beat to X's hook.

bishop is a very universal artist, if you don't 'get' or dig him, you seriously don't give a fuck about what REAL hip-hop is all about. get that H8ter shit off this board. if we wanted to know more about those kinds of opinions we'd already be talking to all you bitchez out there, but we ain't, so that why y'all haterz out there have to resort to trolling & trashing our threads cuz they can't get up off their sorry asses to go and make better more exceeding music that their complaining out there being a lack thereof.  like Lloyd Banks says N!664'z iz trash!

I'm suprised Send a Nigga Home is not up there.  8)

A bit of trivia for y'all... Haliluja was meant to directly follow RAIN in terms of sequencing for The Reformation. That's why in the beggining of Haliluja, you hear Dre soaked as if he just got drenched in holy water. It's like the rain from RAIN was a baptism.

01 - American Dreams
02 -
03 - Ghetto Song
04 - Let's Go
05 -
06 - On Top Now
07 - I Just Want The Money
08 - Bitchez On My Dick
09 - Movie Star
10 - Bad Girl
11 - Change Is Gonna Come
12 - GoAtIt!
13 -
14 - Yeah Pimp
15 - Anyway
** - Be Cool
** - Land Of The Free

I'm sorry but I HAD TO add those last two, it wouldn't be right without them on there.  I wanted them in this particular order [i dont even know if they would all fit tho lol] but I haven't heard them in this sequence so I'm not 1000% sure how it would sound together (but from my memory, and youtube I have an idea).

OK I am gonna try this now that the recent mixtape has dropped.  I will put them in order as well because I personally think that how an album runs from start to finish is important:

1. Intro (possibly a new one or the one from The Confessional when Bishop is in the confession box).
2. Hallelujah
3. City Lights
4. Donkey Kong Savage
5. Blow Your Mind
6. I'll Still Kill
7. Change is Gonna Come
8. So Sad
9. Grow Up
10. Get Inspired (Bishop's best track on the recent drop, certainly album material).

** Bonus material = Africa and Oh My God!

This is clearly the best list, not overly long, all dope tracks with a general theme.  8)

I had to do it.. tried it a couple times before but it's too difficult   :P
When I think about it, it's not even fair to make just 1 album, with all his material I could easily make 5 albums.

Anyway, my list would probably change every day, even every hour.
It's based on my favorites/picks right now, so it doesn't necessarily make it the best overall album or the closest thing to The Reformation.
I only picked solo songs, no songs from other artists albums.

Less than 20 is impossible for me, so fuck that.  :D

1. Welcome To Havoc
2. It's Bishop
3. Let's Go
4. The Truth (Ft. Stacee Adamz)
5. Grow Up
6. Don't Kill Me
7. First They Love You (Ft. Prime & Indef)
8. Toe Tag
9. Bitches On My Dick
10. Hallelujah (Ft. Xzibit)
11. The Greatest Trick
12. Everyday
13. Can't Figure It Out
14. So Cold (Ft. Mike Anthony)
15. U Ain't Fresh (Ft. Dave NY, Diverse & Deejay Gemini)
16. Niggas (with Indef)
17. Caltroit (with Black Milk, Ft. Indef & Chevy Jones)
18. No Stoppin Carson
19. Send A Nigga Home (Ft. Denaun Porter)
20. Home (Ft. Dave Green)
