Dope record.  Dope album.  Dope production; transitions sweetly between each track.  Great usage of features.

Dope opening track,
Quote
I don't run rap no more, I run the map

Some minor issues with his vocals on some tracks but his flow is on point.

I'm not sure I like the placement of Thank You.   From What We Talking About to  Thank You is fine but going from Thank You to DOA feels slightly awkward.  Maybe, it's DOA because it's got such a harder edge to it compared to the other tracks.

Empire State of Mind is hella hot.  Jesus!  That beat is niiiiiiiiiiccceeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!  Too bad Nas didn't get to rip on it.  Alicia was hot.

Real As It Gets feels more like a Jeezy track and less like a Jay track.

On To The Next One is dope.  Swiss delivered.  Kind of reminds me of Swagger Like Us.

Off That is dope as well.

A Star Is Born is nice, I though he dissed 50 for a moment.  It's dope to see him give props to fellow rappers when so much hating ass rappers be in the game.  Like the introduction of J. Cole on the end of track.

CuDi was aight on the chorus for Already Home.  Hate is a dope beat by Ye.

So Ambitiuous is

Fuck what ya'll say.  Jay never fell off; since his come back Kingdom Come everything has been consistently dope.  Shit's dope.

No, American Gangster is a dope album.  People just sleep on it.

I only liked 6 tracks on it.

No Hook
Roc Boyz
Say Hello
Success
Fallin'
Blue Magic

That makes the album very average to me.

Just skimmed trough it real quick. Some odd beat choices (that would fit Kanye more than Jay) and a lot of experiment with the flow. I was most impressed with the J.Cole joint and the last track. Gonna put it on my mp3 player and go for a run and I'll get a clearer picture.

Ok after hearing the leaked tracks I was scared about that album but after the first listen its actually quite good.
Overall the album is homogeneous except for a couple records like the Swizz assisted or "Hate" with Kanye which are the wort ones to me
Jay-Z still can rap but on half of the songs he sounds annoying... never thought Jeezy would outshine someone on a song but it happened here..
"What We Talkin' About" is THE great record of the album imo

Not impressed on first listen, but Jay-Z albums tend to grow on me.

Empire State Of Mind and So Ambitious sound good so far...I'll give it a week before I know which tracks I really like.

btw, how the fuck does Swizz Beatz have a career?? I've never heard a decent beat from him.

Listened to track 1-9 on my running route (keep in mind you tend to get distracted every now and then) and I enjoyed all the tracks except Thank You which I found boring. There's also a question of unnecessary Jeezy cameo and Swizz Beatz chorus (the beat is quite banging).

My favorite track from this pack is definitely Everyday A Star Is Born.

Hahahaaaaa! Swizz Beats is one funny crackhead and it's even funnier that Kanye tried to outshine his wackness with his own horrid beat he provided for to this album but you can't fade the ol' Swizzie.
I expected the album to be a disappointment and that's what it turned out to be. Camel still somewhat does it but the beats are the reason why half of the album is shit. Either the beats are awkwardly cheesy or just plain garbage.

Give it a week, and Dubcc will totally switch on the album, like they did on Relapse..

I'm digging nearly all of it, even the Timbaland tracks sounds better in proper quality, some of the tracks are growers... only downfalls:

* Swizz Beats track, plain weird.. catchy in a way, but should have been left off the album.
* Pharrell track, don't quite like it, but it's not that bad either.. expected the Pharrell/Swizz tracks to be the 2 worst tracks, and I was right.
* Young Jeezy ruined the start of a pretty good track, don't think I will ever like a Jeezy or Wayne verse.

Add "Jockin Jay-Z", "History feat. Tony Williams", and "Brooklyn Go Hard feat. Santogold" as bonus tracks, and you got a banging album, like usual from Jay.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only feeling it.  I agree with some of the critics that it has a more pop, techno influence on the beats but I think it's dope.  I never understand why people want him to spit another reasonable doubt.  I figure it's a lose lose for Jay because if he does spit about the drug game (american gangster) people say he's not being true but when he switches it up and spits what he wants to present as his lifestyle, people hate.  Hov can't do right to some folks.

I agree that Pharrel song didn't feel right but I disagree about the Swizz track though I think his vocals shouldn't have been included.

I agree the Jeezy track hindered the flow of the album.  You didn't dig Jeezy's verse on Amazing?  That Ye track got me into Jeezy.

That's up to you to decide.

Personally, from American Gangster my favorite track is Sweet.  I actually prefer certain tracks from the Marvin Gaye mash-up more ... Sweet happens to be one of them but I blast the og too.    Here's the version from the mash-up, http://sharebee.com/cfd0b9e3

Quote

It's so corrupt
Soak it up
It's a lesson, every fuck up
One day you're up, the next day you're down
As long as you stay the same
It'll come back around

Hov, all right! all right!
It might not be what you cal picture perfect
but it's my life
the life

Damn, I love that song.

Thoughts:

Jay's flow ain't shit anymore.
Lyrically he's cool on some tracks, generic as fuck on some others.
Kanye didn't bring his A-game, but his B-Game is good enough for me.
Timbo didn't bring his A-game, and it hurts the album. Off That is straight with me though, hook is dope.
Pharell's track (and hook) was good - he probably deserved a second beat on this.
Alicia Keys sounds AMAZING on Empire State of Mind... why is Nas not on this?
Swizz track was some garbage. Speaking of Swizz, this track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrB80Y-rAP8) > anything on the album
It's... just alright. Not classic, not close. But not bad. Listenable minus three songs (ugh, thank you...)
AWH!

I actually think the Pharrell joint is the best one on the album (the hook is fly too: I'm so ambitious I might hit 2 sisters...lol). Jay and Neptunes been making some dope joints lately; this one and Blue Magic & I Know of American Gangster.

Anyways my thoughts:

Like Jome said this album is probably a grower (or not we'll see). Right now I'm thinking it's definitely better than American Gangster (boring and nobody wants to hear him rap about drugs again) and Kingdom Come (sounded like a failed, dated experiment compared to this one)

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2009/09/a-first-listen-liveblog-of-jayzs-blueprint-3-.html

For those who have an intravenous Internet hookup, Jay-Z's long-delayed, much-anticipated "Blueprint 3" leaked sometime in the wee hours of yesterday morning and debuts today on Rhapsody's and MTV's websites. We listened to the entirety of Sean Carter's 11th album in one fell swoop -- not even taking a break to sip overpriced Champagne, smoke overpriced cigars or take our Maybach out for a leisurely spin. That's either dedication or... a paying assignment from our editor.

"What We Talkin' About" (ft. Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun)

Jay-Z has enlisted Luke Steele of Australian hairspray techno auteurs Empire of the Sun to sing the hook. For those doing the math at home, that means that the man behind this album has more face-time on a Jay-Z album than longtime collaborators DJ Premier and State Property.

In the course of the cut, Jay-Z claims, "I'm not talking about profit; I'm talking about pain." Within 30 seconds, he's bragging about being bff's with Barack Obama. Apparently, Jay-Z feels the pain of the potential loss of the public option more than we will ever know. Hova also declares "I'm not talking about [rivals] Jimmy [Jones], Game or Dame [Dash]," thus robbing him of any semblance of conflict that might make his music that much more interesting.

"Thank You"

Rather than use the liner notes, Jay-Z decides to write a song thanking the fans for supporting him. He mentions that he has 10 No. 1 albums -- a factual inaccuracy. He has 10 official solo albums released prior to this one, and not all reached No. 1. You'd think that with all of his money, he could at least pay sidekick Memphis Bleek to fact-check for him. He also mentions his predilection for wearing really nice suits and going to the opera.

"D.O.A."

The long-ago leaked first single proves that no matter how cranky and cantankerous Jay-Z sounds, a Janko Nilovic sample can salve all wounds. Moreover, whether you agree or not with his traditionalist stance, Jay at least has a coherent point here.

"Run this Town" (ft. Rihanna & Kanye West)

The second single currently earning heavy urban radio play. You've probably heard it. If not, let me give you a hint about who runs this town -- it rhymes with May-B.

"Empire State of Mind" (ft. Alicia Keys)

Essentially, a list of New York City streets with the titular inspiration seemingly swiped from Nas'  "New York State of Mind." For the 723rd time, Jay-Z compares himself to Frank Sinatra, an analogue that's becoming ill-fitting. There's something timeless about Sinatra's catalog and his choice of collaborators. Something tells me that Mr. Hudson, featured on the last track of "Blueprint 3," is no Antonio Carlos Jobim. Even Alicia Keys can't save this track from foundering.

"Real as it Gets" (ft. Young Jeezy)

This feels like a shameless shill to get Southern rap fans to buy the album, lured by the promise of a Young Jeezy cameo. When used properly, Jeezy's gravelly timbre can produce earthshaking force; but on "Real," the result is both rappers abandoning their gritty street raps for self-worshiping ennui. It's hard to blame them; it's tough to stay hungry when you have a personal chef.

"On to the Next One" (ft. Swizz Beatz)

The  first track yet that doesn't make me want to skip onto the next one. Swizz Beatz is clearly channeling "A Milli," and while he doesn't get the exact same results, he clearly creates one of the album's standout tracks, sounding simultaneously au courant and catchy. Jay-Z continues his recurring obsession with being artistically progressive and moving forward.

"Off That" (ft. Drake)

Timbaland's beat sounds like one of the better castoffs from the last Justin Timberlake album, and Drake's hook is cool and self-assured. But there's something here that reads as stasis: Timbaland continues to envision the future as silver suits and astronaut ice cream, while Jay sounds like he would probably try to lecture the “Say Hey” kid for wearing tight pants.

"A Star is Born" (ft. J. Cole)

Featuring a guest appearance from J. Cole, the fledgling artist whom Jay-Z has signed to Roc Nation. Cole acquits himself fine with a nimble resonant verse about coming from poverty, though his performance lacks the appeal of past Jay proteges Beanie Sigel, Kanye West or Memphis Bleek.

"Venus vs. Mars"

A naked play to entice female listeners, with Timbaland delivering a monstrous beat. Unfortunately, Jay utilizes the lurid leering tone of the rich guy at the bar promising helicopter rides to any nubile female who will look in his direction. In 10 years, "Venus vs. Mars," will go down in history as the first rap song ever inspired by a self-help romance guide intended to illuminate gender differences. I can't wait until Drake releases his prog-rap opus, "He's Just Not That Into You."

"Already Home" (ft. Kid Cudi)

The most organic and hence best song on the album. Kanye fulfills his symphonic "Late Registration"-era aspirations and Jay fills it with regnant "Blueprint" majesty. The decision to pair up with Kid Cudi and Kanye West finally yields some dividends for Jay's experimentation. Granted, it's not exactly the London Muddy Waters Sessions, but it works. Kid Cudi's stoned insularity proves a nice foil to Jay's swagger and the song sounds fun and spontaneous.

"Hate" (ft. Kanye West)

The logical continuation of the "Graduation" dud "Drunk and Hot Girls," "Hate" sounds like the result of staying up all night in the studio mixing various liquors and then letting the tape recorder roll. You're in that deluded state where you think that everything you record is genius and filled with revelations. Then you wake up the next morning to realize that except for three seconds, everything you made was garbage. Except that never happened, and Jay and Kanye decided to put it on the album.

"Reminder"

Where Jay-Z reminds us that he's better than you and me. Presumably, this is supposed to even out the hospitality of "Thank You."

"So Ambitious" (ft. Pharrell)

Apparently, all ambition means these days is making songs that both Pharrell and Jay would've scoffed at during their "Roc La Familia"-era salad days.

"Young Forever" (ft. Mr. Hudson)

Sampling "Forever Young" on the the final track is one of the worst decisions of Jay-Z's legendary career and confirms everyone's deepest fears about the album: that it's a Hail Mary attempt by a veteran artist to stay relevant. There's maturing gracefully and then there's this -- a maudlin cut that sounds like bar mitzvah montage rap. After hearing this, cleanse with "Brooklyn's Finest" on repeat.

Verdict:

Regardless of this lackluster effort, nothing can alter Jay-Z's place as one of the greatest rappers of all time. That said, despite several strong moments, "Blueprint 3" documents an artist who refuses to wallow in the past, but lacks a (ahem) blueprint for the future. As with all Jay-Z albums, it tries to be all things to all people, and occasionally succeeds, but more often than not, it offers a tepid futurism. If Jay-Z is rap's Rolling Stones, this is his "Dirty Work," even if he maintains that he doesn't like his colors too bright.

This album is too poppy for my liking, yet, ironically, I disagree about Forever Young. At first I was like "Jesus, this is corny", but that against my will the track is stuck in my head and it comes with real emotion, I'm probably liking it more than any other track on the album so far.

I actually think the Pharrell joint is the best one on the album (the hook is fly too: I'm so ambitious I might hit 2 sisters...lol). Jay and Neptunes been making some dope joints lately; this one and Blue Magic & I Know of American Gangster.

i got you on this one man. this joint is hot. then it gets ruined with the next track and its forever young sample... what the fuck jay? mr hudson? (kanyes' new lover? c/d? lol)

no really.. WHAT THE FUCK  ;D

Given this some proper rotation today, and the tracks I keep coming back to are:

Thank You

Empire State Of Mind

A Star Is Born

Venus vs Mars

Already Home - probably my favourite

So Ambitious - Neptunes & Jay-Z, most consistent combo in rap? OK, there's Dre & Snoop etc, but I always check first for the Neptunes track on a Jay-Z album and I'm never disappointed.

What We Talkin' About Ft. Luke Steel - 5/5. Perfect Intro. Jigga spits flames and the beat is insane. Dude on the hook is nice too.
Thank You - 3/5 - May grow on me. The beat and concept is hot. Got an issue with Jigga's experimental flow on this though.

D.O.A. - 5/5. Nothin to be said, y'all all heard it and it's real shit.
Run This Town Ft. Kanye West & Rihanna - 4.25/5 - Great mainstream beat and hook. Kanye murders it too.

Empire State of Mind Ft. Alicia Keys - 5/5. Alicia Keys really murders this hook. Beat is flames and Jigga on his shit here.
As Real As It Gets Ft. Young Jeezy - 4/5. Not as bad as I expected. Beat is fire and Jeezy did his damn thing. Better than I expected this to come out.

On To The Next One Ft. Swizz Beats - 4/5 I must say I am impressed with this. I fuckin hate Swizz Beats but this beat is fuckin flames, especially that background element :o Swizz vocals unnecessary though.

Off That Ft. Drake - 3.75/5 - Another good mainstream sounding joint. Timbo did his thing on the beat. Drake sounds good on the hook. Jay-Z flowed well here; more energetic.

A Star Is Born Ft. J. Cole - 5/5 Beat is pretty and hot cool concept to introduce J. Cole. Cole probably spits the best verse on the album :o
Venus Vs. Mars - 4/5 Pretty hot Timbo beat. Jay spits nice on here too; hook is poppy but whatever, still cool.

Already Home Ft. Kid Cudi - 4/5 Beat is fire. Does sound like a Kanye track though. Cudi sounds good over this.
Hate Ft. Kanye West - 2.5/5 Kanye spits hot on this! Jigga sounds good on it too. But it's very weird overall lol.

Reminder - 3.5/5 Beat is ok. Hook is very annoying. Jigga spits hot here though.
So Ambitious Ft. Pharrell - 3/5 Beat is eyy. Sounds like "Blue Magic" remake 2 me but not as good.

Young Forever Ft. Mr. Hudson - 5/5 Epic beat. Hudson sings well on this too. Perfect outro.

Def no classic or anything, tails off a bit at the end and I can see how some can hate the club/single/poppy joints. Also some classic Jigga cuts on here too. Not as good as AG though.

i like DOA, but it's still ironic that a song like this comes from Jay-Z, when you look at all the music he makes: he's not a guardian
by the way, he shouldn't have done the "lalala, heeeyheeyheey", as it's retarded.
i also kept Thank You, but i've deleted the rest of the songs.

after one listen, I can say the album is decent but I probably won't cop it unless it grows on me majorly... great production on some tracks but I just wasn't feeling Jay-Z's flow or even lyrics at times  :-\

my favorite tracks were "What We Talkin' About", "Empire State Of Mind", "A Star Is Born", "Reminder", "So Ambitious", and some others I would include but it was mainly due to the beats and/or feature

IMO American Gangster > this album

1. What We Talkin' About - 4/5; great intro, diggin' the flow & what Jay was rappin' about.
2.Thank You - 3.5/5; alright, nothing great, but not too weak - average.
3. D.O.A. - 4.5/5; one of my favorite songs of the year, let alone the album.
4. Run This Town - 3.75/5; for a mainstream track, really feelin' it. Rihanna killed the hook & Kanye killed his verse.
5. Empire State of Mind - 5/5; personally my favorite song on the album, unreal track. my New York Anthem! 8)
6. Real As It Gets - 3/5; not terrible, but not really feelin' Jeezy or Jay's flow here.
7. On To The Next One - 2.5/5; cannot stand a Swizz Beatz beat. so repetative & annoying, just poor, Jay wasn't on top of his game here either.
8. Off That - 3.75/5; i'm diggin' the track for a mainstream song. Drake's hook is dope, the concept is dope & Jay comes correct in all verses.
9. A Star Is Born - 5/5; great tribute track to most dudes in the industry & J. Cole straight killed his verse; dude is the future!
10. Venus Vs. Mars - 2.75/5; not very high on my list. cool vibe to it, but overall pretty weak.
11. Already Home - 4.5/5; top track off the album, great feel, Jay comes correct & Cudi is dope on the hook.
12. Hate - 3/5; i expected a lot more for a Jay/Kanye collab. song, but whatever. beat was disappointing & i wasn't really feelin' the flows.
13. Reminder - 4/5; good track from start to finish, nothing spectacular, but a real strong track off the album.
14. So Ambitious - 4/5; strong track with a tight hook; Jay came correct & it was a well put together track.
15. Young Forever - 4.5/5; great sample, Jay came awesome here; great way to finish out the album.

solid album. not terrible like some people have been saying & not awesome; just solid with some real bright spots & some real "wtf's?".

overall: 3.85 (when calculated); which is good for me; now i just have to see what kind of replay value it holds for me within the next few weeks.

Best Jay album since his "retirement" imo.

1.)Great tracks
D.O.A., Empire State Of Mind, A Star Is Born, So Ambitious

1.a)Would be great but ruined by weird hooks
Run This Town, Reminder

2.) Enjoyable tracks
Off That, Venus Vs. Mars (awful hook)

3.) Alright joints
What We Talking About (boring beat and hook, Jay was great), Thank You (boring), On To The Next One (not bad but it's all over the place), Already Home (great beat and hook but awful flow), Hate (weird track lol)

4.) Biggest dissapointemnt
Forever Young (such an epic beat and chours build your expectations but Jay raps like he couldn't care less)

No tracks that made me say "this shit sucks". Jay was aiming for a more fresh, experimental and feel good vibe album and I prefer that over that snooze fest of an album called American Gangster.

Edit: Infact, the whole beat sucks.

Off That is with Drake and is produced by Timbaland.  You must mean On To The Next One.

The first couple bars from the first verse summarizes the album,

Quote
Hov on that new shit
Niggas like "how come?"
Niggas want my old shit
buy my old album
Niggas stuck on stupid
I gotta keep it money
Niggas make the same shit
Me? I make the blueprint
Came in the range, hopped out the LExus
Every year since I been on that next shit

Shit is still fresh after a couple more listens. Jay be picking some weird beats that sometimes make me say WTF he gonna do with that. But he makes it work.

I enjoy it quite a bit.  Empire State Of Mind Got such a soulful beat.  It's a pleasure to hear jay rap over it.  After several listens I'm not that big of a fan of the chorus.  Nas should rip it for the fans.

He claims his next album will be experimental.  Please, dear god, no autotune.

I don't care, it's a single, it's supposed to be catchy and that's exactly what that Yeeaaahheaaaheahah is... I usually don't like Rihanna's nasal yelling but I dunno, I like it in this case.

I do agree, however, that with the same chorus but without the "heeyyeaahahahyeaH" part it would be doper lol.

Nasal, that's the fucking word. Everytime I hear her, it's like she's got a sinus problem. That's probably what Chris Brown was trying to fix when he bust up her face.

#1 the beat is very boring, plain and uninspiring
#2 Rhianna is very annoying. I used to be able to tolerate her like on Live your life with T.I. when i heard it, but i think after the 100th time i heard both that song and umbrella and whatever other song she bit from "Tainted Love" i just wanted to Chris Brown her. Hot body though but what an alien looking head the hoe has

In "Thank You" I wonder if Jay-Z is addressing The Game possibly others in a cryptic way (Maybe in reference to how he was "Declaring War" with Game and others before using the concert to make up with Nas instead, and also in reference to Jay-Z's comment to a fan that "We gonna let Game just kill himself")

"I was gonna kill a couple rappers but they did to themselves
I was gonna do it with the flow but they did it with their sales,
I was gonna 911 them but they didn’t need the help
and they did a good job, them boys is talented as hell,
so not only did they brick but they put a building up as well
then ran a plane into that building and when that building fell
ran to the crash site with no mask in hell, toxins deep inside they lungs
until both of em was filled, blew a cloud out to an L, to a Jordan to a smell,
cos they heard the second hand smoke kills.
N-ggas thought they was ill, found out they was eww!
and its like you knew exactly how i wanted you to feel"

yeah as much as people have been hating on this song saying it's no good, makes me think they skipped the track one verse into it.  This is one of my favorites on the album, and I thought this verse was a well-crafted response to JJ and Game.  Sure would be nice to see an all out battle bteween them though like he did with Nas

after one listen, I can say the album is decent but I probably won't cop it unless it grows on me majorly... great production on some tracks but I just wasn't feeling Jay-Z's flow or even lyrics at times  :-\

my favorite tracks were "What We Talkin' About", "Empire State Of Mind", "A Star Is Born", "Reminder", "So Ambitious", and some others I would include but it was mainly due to the beats and/or feature

IMO American Gangster > this album

yes, you have been easily manipulated by timbo's media hype and the expectation that all jay/timbo joints are hot.  In reality though, timbo gave Jay his most boring and safest beats he has produced in years.  They were most likely leftovers

Jay on the other hand brought his usual shallow, self loving, routine lyrics to each of the beats

I am a big Jay-Z fan but unlike some on here I thought American Gangster was fairly lacklustre and so I was really hoping this would be a good album. However after the first listen, I wasn't really feeling much and read the responses saying people would hail this album after a week, but here is the thing, there are five pretty good songs on here Empire State Of Mind, DOA, Young Forever, Run This Town, A Star Is Born.

Songs like Ambitous, Reminder, Hate are so damn underwhelming, in fact the majority of the album in my opinion is just damn boring.

I think overall OB4CL2 is a better album. Better sequencing and it flows front to back just like the 1st one. Blueprint3 is pretty good with standout tracks but as an album, Rae's effort was better. IMO

I listened to the album a little more this week and more of it has grown on me... I dig almost all of it now basically except for "Thank You", "Venus VS Mars", "Hate"... a few other tracks I could fuck with for certain things

OB4CL2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Blueprint3

OB4CL = album of the year (so far)  8)

Blueprint 3 is dope.

I don't see why you compare the two.  Raekwon just rehashed his greatest solo effort (both of which are dope) while Jay-Z, arguably, continues to reinvent himself.  If Jay pulled a Raekown and remade Reasonable Doubt people would criticize him.

In addition  to this Rae's effort was a story telling piece while Jay's didn't attempt that (American Gangster did).

I enjoy both releases just think the comparisons are weak.

Let me add my to cents:
I skimmed through this piece of shit once and then trashed it in my computer's recycle bin.

Lol, i'll keep those 5 songs mentioned and ditch the rest. This is going to fade from memory so quickly (for me anyway)

I think its more the fact that they came out around the same time, and they are both popular artists from New York

Even so thats what people do nowadays is compare, no1 can really just enjoy an album for what it is

I can't even front, many tracks have grown so much more on me after 2 listens today

solid 4/5 tracks for me as of now: "What We Talkin' About", "Empire State of Mind", "Real As It Gets", "On To The Next One", "A Star Is Born", "Already Home", "Reminder", "So Ambitious", "Young Forever"

I still don't fuck with "Hate", "Venus VS Mars" and "Thank You" have dope beats but Jay didn't bring his A game, and the singles are straight but overplayed now, but that's because they were singles  8)

It sounds like Kingdom Come Part 2, American Gangster was a lot better than this and even that to me was lacking. I just feel like he is a pale shadow of his former self and ever since The Black Album it's been downhill.

the best part of this album is the hook by Alicia Keys.
