i think WA just got hip that people aren't going to buy a 50$ Box Set of material that they've already heard before (most of it). The public interest for DeathRow wasn't what they expected it to be (dr. dre, snoop DOGGY dogg, now this). i knew once the sales of The Chronic came in they had needed to call an audible fast. instead of hard copies go all digital. the mastering on most tracks is probably almost identical to the Reels and making cd's is like people buying tapes. that's the best thing they can do. put a digital lock on the material like Napster does (with they're Free Trial thing they do so people can't steal it so eazy) and distribute it thru the main site. no need to keep on with some false sense of hope that the old Cult that used to be behind DeathRow Records still exist as strong as it was 15 years ago, let alone 5 years ago. best wishes to Lara and them but go smart not hard.

That's how mine is but I figured that was part of the remix, sounds like a DJ screw remix.
I think it was an error on their part, all you have to do is speed it up, but it would have been nice if it was normal on the cd.

Danny Boy's song produced by DJ Quik (So In Love) is the best song on the whole fucking thing as far as im concerned. And I can't believe they took the OG Next Episode beat and put Crooked I on it.... that was kinda stupid. They need to put out that entire Danny Boy album that DJ Quik produced. Im sure that would be nothing short of amazing.

Im glad there are some tracks to add to my collection but maybe we should see about what they have in store as far as a completely unreleased album like 2pac's. Or Danny Boy's. Or The LBC Crew. Or The Lady Of Rage. Or DR DRE. So far its been a mix of released and unreleased. But the unreleased isn't as great as id like it to be. There's plenty of good stuff that hasnt gotten to our ears yet if only 10% of all of Deathrows material has been officially released.

Couple other notes, To Live and Die in LA on Disc 1 is different from the Makaveli version. Intro is gone and the beat was altered a bit. Same with 187, a little different fromt the version I had. Another nice surprise is Squeak Ru is featured on the Petey Pablo song, forgot he was signed to DR toward the end of their run.

That Swoop G tribute song is fucking sick with so many others in this box set.
I know a lot people will nit-pick with what they don't like about anything but I'm fucking SUPER happy with this release. Snoop (because of mixing) and Dre Re-lit not so much.
I am very impressed with this box set and can't wait for all of their future releases. Excellent job WideAWAKE. :cheers:

OK, finally got a copy...had to go to a best buy way out in the middle of nowhere. They only had 1, so i had to buy it over the phone, but at least i got it. It's not in best buy's computers at all, i guess each store only got like 1 copy. That's all this store said they got.
Oh well, it's a great boxset, with the exception of no new Soopafly songs, but the Like It Or Not video is on there, so that's cool.
Is someone going to post up the sped up version of NBK with Sam Sneed? Or can someone pm it to me. I'm loving that song, but i'm not so sure about the slowed down version. I can't tell if that was intentional or not. The chorus, when the guy talks, sounds normal, so maybe that's the way the song is supposed to be.

I picked mines up at FYE in southern california and they had at least 5 of them that they kept over the counter. I'm guessing they got a good distro deal to get so many copies.

But it will sound as though it was altered because we are so used to hearing the released version. I remember when "Don't Stop" with 2pac was released on Dogg Pound 2002, everybody was bitching because they thought Death Row slowed it down. What they didn't all realize was that the bootleg rip that had leaked previous to that, was a tape rip or something that was unintentionally sped up. When you dub tapes at high speeds this was a very common thing that would happen. With NBK, the situation is a little different, but the same premise: we're so used to hearing the other version that the new version sounds wrong if it's at a different speed.
Also, love him or hate him, I don't think anybody can deny that the presentation and packaging looks pretty damn good. At least from what I see in these photos.

Dre has his normal vocals, there are 2 Sneed verses, and there is still some ice cube mixed in, like at the end of the song cube's vocals are there. Beat and intro are the same from what I can tell. The part right after Dre's 1st verse is different.

Yeah, it did have that classic late 90's No Limit Feel to it. And I noticed that Em line too, seemed totally forced.
I have another, longer version of it, with what seems to be someone different on the hook, and the singer has a longer extended outro... Lemme see if I can find it

Now that I really listened to the alternate version, it seems like it got way more post production that the Deathrow Box Set version. Although I like the Box Set version better... the alternate version sounds so exaggerated, the box set version is a lot more subtle.

I remember reading back when Doobie was first on Death Row that he was inspired by No Limit. I also agree with Caught Up In the Game having that No limit kind of sound and I also liked the track but I liked it for the Danny Boy hook.

Great question, I have no clue. Downloaded this from deathrowtapes.blogspot, they had some "unreleased DeathRow" zip floating around and this along with the old copy of Nigga Named Dave that was floating around a few years ago, Hoe Hopper, Rat-A-Tat, next Episode, all in shitty Q. The one gem of the compilation was Kurupts "I Don't Bang No more" it's one of the few non CDQ songs on my iphone.
Now that's a song I'd love to see released from the vault

The Danny Boy tracks are the shiznit 8). I was surprised to find Top Dogg's Cindefella video abit different from the one I saw on MTV and Youtube though.

I had a double disc album, and another album of his. All 3 discs had tracks of re-cycled Death Row verses. Kurt Kobane & Sean Barney Rubble. I only uploaded one disc though if I remember right, because I couldn't find the rest. I did have an old CD-R of DR material that also had a track of his on there, but can't for the life of me remember the title. I never really liked Doobie too much. He was too southern - No Limit-like for my liking

I might do the same. Got the box set for Christmas.
I've only been able to check out Disc #3 so far but there's some pretty good shit on there though it seems to have the same mixing problems on some of the unreleased stuff as "Lost Sessions". They either couldn't clear a sample or the artist on the chorus for that first Crooked I track. The slowed-down "Natural Born Killaz" with Sam Sneed isn't too bad though. Does anyone else think the slowed-down Dre vocals make him sound like Scarface a little bit? I've said this before but I don't think Wideawake should be promoting a track where Crook spits over a Dre beat as being "produced by Dr. Dre" but I guess that's just one man's opinion. All in all, it was ideal as a Christmas gift. It was something I really wanted to cop but between the $35 price tag and the fact that I couldn't seem to find it anywhere, I probably wouldn't have scooped up for awhile if I didn't get as a present.
