Title: Bad week for hip hop sales
Post by: King-Suge on November 26, 2002, 12:03:14 PM
Blueprint 2 is looking to sell just about 150,000 copies this week, while Ja Rule is struggling to reach the 200,000 mark in his first week. Hmmm..

That is what happen's when u put out sub-par material as a heavily hyped project.

Ja Rule & Jay-Z ImO
Both of their collections deserved better follow's than their 2002 releases...

Jay Z ended up pushing 170,000 units this week and Ja pushed 225,000.  Jay Z can hold his head up though cos thats still around 700,000 in 2 weeks.  But Ja Rule pushing 225,000?  A lot of people figured Ja's sales would stomp over Jiggas-wow.  ANd yes-very interesting trend of all rap, non-eminem related sales going down.

So you're saying that: Ja Rule sold 225 000 units and Jay-Z sold 170 000 units (85 000 copies) this week
And Jay-Z sold 700,000 units (350 000 copies) in the two weeks.

So unless you worded it wrong Ja came within 125 000 copies of outselling Jay-Z's two week total.

No--Youre all messed up.

Jay Z sold nearly 600,000 last week (over 600,000 according to hitsdailydouble).  That would be the equivalent of 1,200,000 discs-but you count each sale of the double disc as ONE unit.  This week Jay Z sold 170,000 units...340,000 discs.

So yah--Irv and Ja have to be freaking out when you compare their numbers to Jigga..ESPECIALLY when you compare to Em who is just running things.

I'm just saying that when you say he sold 600,000 units, that means he's sells 300,000 copies of his double album.  Every copy of his album counts as 2 units.

For example:All Eyez On Me went 9x platnium selling 4,500,000 copies

RIAA counts it as 2, Soundscan counts it as 1...Jay-z sold 545,000 double albums which the RIAA doubles and counts it as 1.1 million...Soundscan goes by the barcode on the CD which is scanned every time you buy an album from a major retail store...So 545,000 copies were legitamately sold his first week...

Okay, makes sense.  When I hear units for a double I always assume half that is the amount of copies are sold.

So Jigga went platinium in the first week.
