Title: ''How High'' Method Man & Redman... 3 versions??!
Post by: Prof@ssor on May 03, 2010, 08:57:22 AM
I just realized there are 3 versions of this song, 4 in total with Part II. It's hella confusing (because the remix and original have the same video). Can someone help me out?

First version: from Blackout album,  (some label it as the remix, or blackout remix) http://www.amazon.com/Blackout-Method-Man-Redman/dp/B00001QGPS/ref=pd_sim_m_5

Second version: from How High soundtrack, also from The Show OST (remix??) http://www.amazon.com/How-High-Various-Artists/dp/B00005RGPI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1272901076&sr=1-1 isnt this the original?

Third version: most different version, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiuE3rZ5qFU&feature=related can somebody upload it? it has the same beat as Triumph from Wu-Tang

Are there 2 different version of the video, or is the second video the same as the first one but with the remix ?

I don't think that "Triumph" remix is real though. Always tought it's fan made.

No you're wrong:

JohnnyWarbux  from youtube about the longer version (4:40):

This version came off a sountrack called "The Show" - It had ONYX, 2Pac, Slick Rick, BIG, Dr. Dre, Treach, Snoop, Cool J, Tribe, Jayo Felony, The SCC, Warren G, Bone Thugs N' Harmony and this joint on it. It's a classic mix tape - One of the best 'soundtrack' cd's ever made. It was put out on Def Jam in 1995. The 'Blackout!' dropped 1999 with a [remix] using the 'Fly Robin Fly' & 'I am Woman' samples. "How High" the Movie and Soundtrack were released in 2001. This version is the original.

Now that is hella fucking confusing...i bet everyone , even here, calls the remix original and vice versa hahaha

The version of this song off the "How High" Soundtrack uses Wu-Tang Clan's "Triumph" off there second disc of there second LP 'Wu-Tang Forever'. There Pt. II version uses a sample from her Secrets hit "You're Making me High" which was released in 1996, a year after the original song off "The Show" dropped.  1

Even more confusing

Where did you hear that from? I'm 99% sure that' it's a fanmade mix. There's the original version and then there's the Erick Sermon remix, that's it. Erick's remix was on "Blackout" and the "How High" OST.

no the video version is the remix. the remix version was originally released on the cd single or maxie cassette version of how high off the show soundtraclk . i notice it when i owned the show soundtrack &  the hook was a little different on the video version when it first came out back in 1995.

I dunno if this version is listed or not but my favorite one is the one produced by RZA and it's a really hard ass beat. It took me forever to find... I don't know where its from

Word.   The Show soundtrack came out around late 95/early 96.   That was the origional version.  I bought that soundtrack at the beginning of summer 96, because they tricked me into thinking that Dre and Snoop had tracks on there when really it was just a quote of theirs excerpted from the movie, lol.   I thought I was ripped off, and "How High" was the only track I was really bumpin after I first bought it.

But now I consider it the greatest hip-hop soundtrack of all-time.  It still stays in my rotation even after all these years.

Hahah, actually i also bought the album because i thought those skits were songs. I was suspectin them to be interludes though, cause of those quotation marks in the titles.

Yeah, I wondered if anyone else had made the same mistake.  I didn't really notice the quotations, and I think Def Jam purposely made it that way to confuse buyers.  The album looked great in stores with all those big names on one album, it was sure to catch any hip-hop fans attention.  Then you get home and find out that several of those tracks were just quotes and not actual songs.

I did the same thing when I got it.  I thought there were Dre and Snoop songs on it.  Bastids.
