It was recorded for Dogg Food but later scrapped. That's the best quality available - CDQ is still unleaked..

It was originally for Dre & Cube's Helter Skelter album the song (You Can't See Me) was intended to be the lead single. due to problems getting the album out it was given to Tha Dogg Pound. Suge didn't want any Dre productions on Dogg Food so the song was finally fiven to 2pac

Yeah perhaps I forgot but that whole situation with Dre supposedly not being able to produce any tracks on Dogg Food is still a little hazy to me.
I mean he mixed the whole thing, and certainly sounds like he had a lot to do with the production on a lot of the songs.

i agree, the song is dope. i'm just saying it was a huge let down because of the quality it was released in.
Yeah the quality was inexcusably atrocious. Granted, even some of the best in the game couldn't have done the mixing work Dre does; and we know WideAwake has approximately no money to spend on post production for these releases, but still--I could have done a better job mixing that in CoolEdit when I was 18. It was just laughable.
I've spent some time reading up on Dre's recording/mixing process and up until just recently he (interestingly) mixed everything down to DAT and then did all his tweaking from there. Doing that would certainly add a thick, fatness to the music which would require more EQ work (and probably de-essing) then modern day engineers and wannabe studio mixing engineers are accustomed to dealing with. Plus Dre's mixes from that era had a good amount of automation and I don't think joe dickhead, or whoever that jokester was who mixed Lost Sessions has the skills, or the time, to even attempt pulling off a mix like that.
Real shame though. What they should do is release the stems like they did with g-thang and let the fans fix it.

Yeah. They're both in the same horrible quality. The version posted in this thread is from a Cassette tape that came from an old Death Row A&R. The other version came from bootleg DPG Mix CD's sold by an (ex?) board member, DPG Recordz and DPGC2000 site contributor, named Cartoon. I bought the CD's (I think there were 3 or 4 of them) waaaaay back, like 10 years ago. The version of Can't C Me has alternate lyrics and is a noticeably different vocal take. Pretty sure the beat was the same though.
I don't have it on my computer but someone probably does. I know Cartoon does!

Dope ass beat. I like what Dogg Pound did with it but I still feel that Pac took it to a whole other level. I would have loved to hear what Dre and Cube did with this but we all know that will never see the light of day.......
I have a theory.....We should conspire to break into Dre's "Vault" and jack everything that motherfucker has and release that shit to the public. Im talking everything.

As we have a cdq version of the beat (pacs) is it not as simple as tidying up the vocals of the dpg one and putting them over the pac beat ?
Been a while since ive listened to dpg one so not sure if there are differences in the beats.
