A downtown Toronto pizzeria popular with university and high school students has been shut down after a police search uncovered $1 million of marijuana and other drugs on the premises.

Police allege Salvatore Crimi, 57, sold marijuana at Pizza Gigi at 189 Harbord Street, near Bathurst Street. The pizzeria is close to Central Technical School and the downtown campus of the University of Toronto.

"Officers made observations where people were actually going in and then leaving emtpy-handed, without any food," said Const. Tony Vella. A police raid early Monday turned up marijuana, Oxycontin, Oxycocet, ecstasy, a small amount of crack cocaine and $8,000 in cash, police said in a release.

"When officers arrived on scene — and they conducted the search warrant — they located the marijuana in plastic packages, in the store. But there was also marijuana located right behind the counter," said Vella.

Crimi faces one marijuana trafficking charge and 14 other drug possession charges.
