I listened to two tracks on youtube and it sounds better than I thought it would, Good production and good lyrics, though Lil Bs flow sounds a bit off

Flow aint that good, and stumbles a lot, plus he lacks/needs passion in his delivery, which conflicts with the albums song titles, but despite all that, the album is actually quite good musically overall. Good selection of beats, and solid enough (I think) to listen to for a good few weeks, possibly longer. Might grow on me, but another rapper could rip those beats better than lil B

Never thought I'd see the day that dubcnn would be raving over an album titled "I'm gay".

I'm hurt. This just may be time for me to retire my jersey.

Regardless. Call it judging a book by its cover because that's exactly what I'm doing but I'm not going to support nonsense

His album is called "I'm gay". I heard his joe budden diss track and dude was calling himself a "pretty bitch", he made like 200 myspace pages for attention. I'm not supporting nonsense.

You take the current definition of words very serious, he doesn't.  That's the main message with the album title.  Words change throughout history depending on the context each generation uses it.  There's no way you can call Lil B's nonsense if he dedicates an entire album into promoting positivity and being open minded.

The ppl who claims this is good music are the ones who judge music by it's beats and really don't pay attention to lyrics.

I think some of you are overrating the hell out of this album. There are definitely some dope beats, and while Lil B doesn't ruin the songs, he certainly doesn't add much to them. His lyrics range from decent to wack, and his flow is ass. There are a few good verses but that's all. Honestly, I'm not a fan of this guy but I've been giving him a chance to improve because he has potential to be much better than he is.

BTW, what a weak ass name for an album.

I would appreciate it if you didn't assume that about me.  I'm not going to sit here and type up a list of some of my favorite all time lyricists, because frankly I don't need to prove that I do pay attention to lyrics.  And anyway, this is a West Coast forum, lyrics isn't what the West is famous for lol.

Let me give you a different perspective on people that believe it's good music.  I feel that Lil B's music can't simply be categorized as just rap.  So I view him as an artist that is simply just being himself and not caring what people think of him.  If you don't like Lil B, cool but it's not fair to categorize all Lil B fans in this one little box.

Like I said, I see him as an artist that's good beyond just the simple rap categories.  No person can actually have a case and say that the Im Gay album is just Lil B talking nonsense.  He's one of the few artists out there that has a very post-modern approach to some of his songs, and the Im Gay album is full of these post-modern songs.  He's a true independent artist that is making music he wants to make and being very creative while promoting positivity and asking for people to be open-minded on everything.  It's refreshing to see artists in any genre have this approach.

Basically NIK is trying to make a push for him to be switched from the worst rapper ever to the second worst.

As for the album, shockingly pretty tight.

I heard somewhere that he randomly leaked it because he heard that Kanye & Jay-Z announced "Watch The Throne" is coming out in like two days & they wanted to drop that album with no promotion just to prove that they could sell without any single or promotion for it. & I think Lil' B beat them to the punch lol.

Now my turn to ask...how ashamed do you feel that people here freely masturbate to pictures of your gorgeous mother? Now enough.

This is Lil' B's album's thread, there will be no more negativity from this point on.

Where you can just literally have your own album, without being forced to have some shitty ass single to market.  Why?  Because you're already marketing yourself.

It's refreshing to see artists in any genre have this approach.

he's not talented...how much simpler can i make it? i dont give a fuck what he's talkin about cuz he sucks behind a mic. he's not an artist, andy milinokis ripped him on his own track.. i see lil black kids like this walk into roccys studio daily, and they think this shit goes hard as fuck and they try imitating this unimpressive style. shit like this is why our youth is goin nowhere as far hip-hop is concerned. sad stuff.

You asked why I think he's good, I gave you my reason and you come around and say "how much simpler can I make it?"  This isn't about you.  This is about my taste in music, you have no say in that.  Alright, you feel that Lil B is what's wrong with the youth in hip hop, yet if you take a look at his youtube video stats most of videos are seen by the age groups of 18-24, 25-34, 35-44.  So eh, don't really see a problem.  If anything this is going to help hip hop, we're going to start seeing more and more DIY rappers with true independence. Where you can just literally have your own album, without being forced to have some shitty ass single to market.  Why?  Because you're already marketing yourself.

...now if only good rappers could start doin that.

The ppl who claims this is good music are the ones who judge music by it's beats and really don't pay attention to lyrics.

BTW, y'all completely fell for it. The title and everything. That's exactly the point of this album.

I find it upsetting that people actually don't realize that Lil B is (and will be for a looong time coming) the king of hip-hop.  Makaveli status in my book. And, for the record, I'm no teeny bopper that jumps on bandwagons. I grew up on mid 90's, golden era hip-hop and bleed for this shit. I know something special when I hear and witness it. The people who hate haven't given him a chance and it saddens me because Lil B is a voice that needs to be heard right now.  I hope, one day, people will finally realize that this man is the truth, not only in music, but in the philosophical way humans should live they're lives

Album had some nice production but it's completely wasted on lil b.

Basically listening to lil b " rap" is like going to an emo poetry night listening to people do spoken word.

He can't rap. Period. He sounds like he's just reading off a paper. He's got no flow, no swag no talent. I can't even consider him a rapper.

1st time listening to anything from this guy and I must say this is a classic example in hip hop of it's not what you say but how you say it. Content wise, B is touching on alot of important topics but the way he raps turns alot of people off. Very unorthodox style and it took me a couple listens to vibe with it. A little work on his flow would be cool but a minor flaw for me.

If I close my eyes and listen to this, at times it sounds like a Kurupt or Prodigy song when those guys had shit for flow and cadence. Only difference here is content wise for the most part B is rapping about life instead of throwing a bunch of big words together. I dig it, production is sound throughout.

And the title did exactly what B wanted it to do, draw attention to the project and himself.

I never said B has a nice flow. And trust me I can pull up at least 10 more Kurupt songs where his flow is shit.

All I am saying is that some of even my favorite MCs have had bad songs flow wise. Hopefully flow is something B works on because a entire body of work or a catalog flowing like this? nah

But you can't find a single song lil b has a nice flow on. Not one. And he isn't a new rapper he's been around for a few years now. You can't make the comparison because kurupt has a whole catalogue of songs where his flow is untouchable.

listened to this album today. ppl should take the "shockingly good/surprising"-comments wit a grain of salt.
its "shockingly good" by Lil B-standards, but that doesnt necessarily solidify the album as "shockingly good" generally or "per say",,
basicaly - Lil B  just stepped up the ladder, n expanded himself musicaly wit beats & in subject matter/flow
((--- "Hate myself" is my favorite song tho..

but honestly, i like the ig'nant side of lil B more. the "troll"-dude.. he is funny.

i mean, this side of him shows that there is more to it, than "swag", swag, swag", but really doe..
fuck i look like takin preachin life-advice from a kid.. just embarrasin, id rather go c a shrink or preacher.
"u gotta live ur life, live ur life, live ur life, life ur life" yea yea, i hear u hear u, shutup already

not bad, but not my cup of tea either.. this isnt what stood out about him as a performer in the first place IMO, n what i liked about him & his niché as this trolling "character"..
