Can this even be argued?
-
pete rock & cl smooth - "mecca & the soul brother" >>>>>>>>>>>>> nwa "Efil4zaggin"
-
as far as production goes, niggaz4life is the greatest hip hop album of all time. agree 100%. pete rock is my dude, but come oooonnnnnnnnnnnnn.................
-
i think the chronic is more revolutionary than efil4zaggin productionwise but i love the production though.
-
naaa man that 80's style uptempo breakbeat sample and drum machine shit was what it was until niggaz4life came out

nah cause the d.o.c.'s album had great production as well. that dropped in 89.

The Bomb Squad & Prince Paul's production (two totally different styles) around the same era were a lot more REVOLUTIONARY. Whether you prefer Efil4zaggin, De La Soul Is Dead or It Takes A Nation... more is entirely a matter of taste though. I love them all.

I just like how they talked about beating women and killing hoes that cheat on them and how they tie up women and pistol whip them, i mean, really crazy stuff. Much more than just the pimp shit slapping hoes, they were downright violent to hoes. I was listening to this just the other day and i was amazed at how far they went with some of the lyrics. That kind of stuff would never fly today. That was why i feel it was so revolutionary right there. I don't know how they got away with it back in 91.

I been sayen this for years that this is DR DRE best produced album ... niggaz4life beats is way better than the chronic beats and if u listen to 1 LESS BITCH in yo system shits on any beat bangin today.. I been bangin this cd since 91... and she swallowd it beat BANGIN..
-
I think over all the lp.was a classic..top 10 easy..dre produced and wrote some of his shit..even though alot of the beats where-cold187s-music..mecca could never out shin this album.

nope, end of story

doc's album was full of that production i described. but it had some mellow shit too. niggaz4life took it to another level.

Dre's sonic jump in production from Straight Outta Compton/100 Miles And Running to Niggaz4life was light years ahead.
The blueprint for The Chronic.

not sure about the most, but it was ahead of it's time
-
Niggaz4life was dope, but it was still just layered samples, mostly loops, except mixed huge...
That's why the Chronic is held in higher regard and considered the revolutionary one, because it was the first to
really go all the way with having so much of the stuff replayed, so it could be mixed with more clarity.
That was a technique that hadn't really be explored that much before then.
The other albums normally named as the big leaps in production are things like -
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation (loads of little samples)
De La Soul - 3 Feet High (loads of samples from different genres)
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (loooads of samples)
Ultramagnetic MCs (pioneered chopping, etc.)
A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory (whole album jazz style, incredible clarity, influenced Dre)
Pete Rock and CL Smooth - Mecca & the Soul Brother (lots of samples, subtle drum programming)

not sure about the most, but it was ahead of it's time
indeed. i'm just sayin the chronic about two or more notches higher production wise.

I think the production on Niggaz4life is better than the Chronic.. It's crisper and cleaner, something like a Michael Jackson album... It sounds more expensive.
