Rapper 50 Cent's debut album "Get Rich or Die Trying", which was just released Feb. 6th, is slated to debut on the charts at #1 with 872,000 copies sold. The large success of his singles "Wanksta" and "In The Club", is nothing short of a phenomenon. "Get Rich..." can currently be claimed as "the hottest thing on the streets", however the street life has come back to haunt 50.
The Queens rapper, born Curtis Jackson, was inside Jimmy's restaraunt in Uptown New York this afternoon when he was shot once in the stomach. Fellow rappers Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of Wu-tang Clan, along with Redman and associates were also dining at the restaraunt. According to eye witnesses, 50 Cent got into a shouting match with Ghostface(born Dennis Coles) and Raekwon(born Corey Woods). Apparently, as the argument esculated, 50 punched Raekwon in the face and was then immediately attacked by Ghostface, Redman, and their associates. Members from 50's camp them jumped in, and a melee ensued.
During the scuffle approximately 4 gunshots were fired, and 50 was struck once in the stomach.
50 Cent was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, were he has currently been reported as being in stable condition. The gunman has not yet been identified, and several men have been taken into police custody for questioning, including Redman and the two Clansmen. 50 was shot before 9 times and survived, likening himself to Tupac Shakur. Hopefully the young star will survive this attack as well.
We will update the details of this story as they become available.

GOVERNOR PATAKI SIGNS NEW BULLET PROOF VEST LAW
Cites Criminals' Readiness and Willingness to Commit Violence With a Deadly Weapon
Governor George E. Pataki today announced he has signed legislation to amend the State Penal Law to prohibit the wearing of a bullet proof vest during the commission of a violent crime while possessing a rifle or a shotgun.
"We need clear and aggressive laws to deal with those who would commit criminal acts of violence with any type of gun," Governor Pataki said. "When a criminal is wearing a bullet proof vest it reduces the chances they will surrender to law enforcement authorities without a fight. This new law closes a loophole that allowed criminals who use a shotgun or a rifle to be punished less severely then those who carry another type of firearm."
The new law adds rifles and shotguns to the existing statute that prohibits wearing a body vest while committing a violent felony while possessing a firearm.
Existing law prohibits the wearing of a bullet proof vest while committing a violent crime if the offender possesses a firearm. A firearm is generally defined in the Penal Law as a pistol or revolver or a "sawed-off" rifle or shotgun. Therefore, a person could not be charged under past statute if, instead of possessing a firearm, he or she possessed a standard rifle or shotgun.
By enacting the existing law in 1984, the Legislature recognized the heightened seriousness and increased danger present when a criminal commits an armed violent felony while cloaked in a protective vest. The danger is no less when the criminal has chosen a rifle or shotgun as the weapon, instead of a firearm.
Under existing law, a defendant who wears a vest while committing a violent felony may only be charged with the additional crime of "Unlawful Wearing of a Body Vest" if possessing a firearm. As shotguns and rifles are not considered firearms under the Penal Law, a person committing the same violent crime while possessing a rifle or shotgun could not be charged under this section. This amendment remedies the omission by extending the coverage of the present statute to include both rifles and shotguns.
This law becomes effective on November 1, 2001.
