Post by: Billooh on November 01, 2012, 02:04:51 AM
I think he released a new song up to the election he said on his twitter:

Quote
With the election so close, it's only right to debut my political song #EVERYTHANGS CORRUPT at midnight PST at http://icecube.com  Peep - @IceCube

Here's the link for the new song.. i think you can also hear it at his website:

if 'everythang' is corrupt why did he show so much more footage of republicans and right wing sponsored media. doesn't everything mean 'everythang'? appreciate the sound and sentiment of the record, but i'm not sure cube has his finger on what's really going on in the world. it doesn't take a genius to see both parties are bought and paid for, including obama.

should be renamed 'everythang's currupt but i'm voting democrat'.

Lyrically a lil flat and off beat at times with the flow but that beat bangs!!! As far as political views they are like assholes and you know the rest. These days there is hardly a bipartisan or neutral opinion on politics. You speak your mind about it and take action

Quote
Ice Cube on Mitt Romney: 'It's Astonishing That People Are Buying That'

Rapper gets political on new single, 'Everythang's Corrupt'

"I don't see how anybody could believe what that man says," says the rapper Ice Cube of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

He's not one to mince words. The West Coast hip-hop luminary's new single, "Everythang's Corrupt," is a no-holds-barred, politically charged record that plumbs the seedy, greedy underbelly that stinks up so much of American society. It's also the title track off his next LP, his first since 2010, which the MC hopes to have on shelves by spring 2013.

Romney features prominently in the new video for the single. "He just reminds me of somebody who's trying to sell me a Mercedes Benz," says Cube. "He'll tell me that it looks good on me and this is my color and I can afford it and everything, just to get the sale. It's astonishing that people are buying into that at the rate they are."

A self-described "political head," Ice Cube says the track speaks to the corruption rampant in everything from politics to education to sports, but he notes that he was particularly inspired by the 99-percenters who spearheaded the Occupy movement. "That right there was basically the classes clashing. You were able to see the power of the rich really trying to step on the poor. It was really clear, it was really in your face. Corruption was in the air and everywhere."

After laying down his lyrics, however, Ice Cube recalls playing "Everythang's Corrupt" and thinking the track needed something to kick it up another notch – so he enlisted Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello. Though the two knew each other and had long admired each other's work, they'd never collaborated, and Ice Cube figured this was the perfect chance. He sent Morello the cut without any instructions and let the axe man do his thing. He added crunchy, funky riffs and a screeching solo to close out the song.

The track, of course, comes at a crucial time, with the election right around the corner and political fervor reaching a boiling point. While the song focuses specifically on corruption, Ice Cube hopes it will help people get their "antennas up" about the world around them as a whole.
"When it comes to political hip-hop, it's like beauty – it's in the eye of the beholder," he says. "Whatever you get out of this song is intended."

There's plenty to fuel that perspective, and Ice Cube adds that he's been following this year's presidential race rather closely. The rapper praised President Obama for the work he's been able to accomplish despite "a do-nothing Congress and the Party of No," and he hopes if Obama is re-elected, he'll focus on jobs and ending poverty. "We have to deal with that," he says. "We're never gonna give what we need to give as a country if some of our citizens are lower than Third World."

Ice Cube does note, however, that while Everythang's Corrupt will have its fair share of politically charged moments (like the song "Dominate the Weak"), it's not a wholly political record. For instance, there's "Damn Homie," which Ice Cube says with a laugh, is about "a dude that was the shit in high school, and I see him now and he's fat and looks like Homer Simpson."

Everythang's Corrupt also marks Ice Cube's first studio release since 2010's I Am The West, though the MC says getting back into the studio felt easy and natural. "I try to work in a pure way," he says. "Being independent, to me, it's more of a boutique type of deal – you should not be a trendsetter, you should kinda do your own thing, and people will appreciate you for that."

I like the concept, but clearly after seeing the video and then reading reading that article that The Predator put up, Ice Cube is shill for Obama just like everyone else in Hollywood.  I agree with everything he says about Romney, but Obama is exactly the same thing.

If Cube was a "Political head" like he says, he would be well aware of that.

And once again, he is trying to stir people up into rioting and shit.  Just like w/ NWA, just like his solo career with "We had to tear this motherfucker up" from the predator album to this shit.

Ice Cube was always about Black Power in Solo work in the beginning. Doesn't Amaze me he supports Obama, he had a record turn out of the black vote because before a lot of em didn't vote. Didn't matter to them because either  way Whitey was gonna fuck em over lease in their view. Also The Predator Album was After the Riots, and the entire point of that album was to capture the Rage of Injustice and the venting that happened during the Riots.

I agree with you and with the other poster who said Cube doesn't really know what he's talking about. There's plenty of people like him. They just complain and say shit's corrupt, they have no real argument or rational point they're making, just complaining.

I'd rather hear records like "She Couldn't Make It On Her Own" from Cube...if I want politics I'll watch politics. When I want rap shit, I'll listen to rap.

LOL, to an illiterate poster like you, Ice Cube is probably making a very deep point and presenting evidence in a very compelling manner...

Rappers as social commentators have always been superficial and emotional, not evidence based, just complaining about oppression, racism, etc.

I like the fact that DJ Quik never once in his whole career made a "political" record. He's too smart to do shit like that.

West Coast Rap should be fun, energetic, upbeat, ignorant, with the G-funk and the G-shit. Not pseudo-intellectual political discussion. I'm a real intellectual. I don't need rappers pretending.

Most rappers sound like high school conspiracy theorists when they talk about politics...MC Eiht the dumbest of them all.

Most rappers sound like high school conspiracy theorists when they talk about politics...MC Eiht the dumbest of them all.

there was a quik interview in the last couple of years where he saying about how young people should join the armed forces and there are lots of good opportunities there. it's a sad state i guess, but personally a bit of a face palm. remember others saying the same thing about his comments at the time. but like you mentioned at least he's not trying to talk about that stuff in his music.

the problem with this record is the vagueness of the message. for me we're living in a time where misinformation and denial is peaking for the whole of western society. different to some of the inequality and social issues spoken on by rappers previously. big picture, entire global financial/political system level stuff, deeply embedded corruption. it's not reasonable to expect anyone to have it all figured out, but i would expect something more explicit for 'everything's corrupt' to have any meaning this late in the game. maybe suggesting people don't vote for either major party or don't vote period.

and this isn't hating on cube...the sentiment is there, but the details are lacking. without good, organised information it just leads to helplessness. the silence is deafening from the hip hop community in regards to politics in 2012. or it's off the deep end with conspiracies. this effort is better than nothing, but i can't see how it's particularly helpful. maybe he'll explain his outlook in more detail on the album. i think locksmith has a lot more relevant things to say on a record like this...

yo Matty, how about we leave the social commentary of the United States to it's citizens.  I'll take an Anti-Obama socialist over a Global Conspiracy Theorist anyday.  this undermining of Ice Cube and Obama is some kinda joke right?

I'll listn to the song in the morning time when i can crank it up at the highest volume for the entire world to hear but i know yall arent going to let some European Conspiracy Expert dictate this thread lol, foh.  There's so many holes in their arguements already its hard to say where to start.

Did Cube know what he was talking about when he discussed race relations and social commentary on his first 3 albums? Just asking

not really either, but that doesn't take away anything from the relevance and classic status of these.

if 'everythang' is corrupt why did he show so much more footage of republicans and right wing sponsored media. doesn't everything mean 'everythang'? appreciate the sound and sentiment of the record, but i'm not sure cube has his finger on what's really going on in the world. it doesn't take a genius to see both parties are bought and paid for, including obama.

should be renamed 'everythang's currupt but i'm voting democrat'.

When I want rap shit, I'll listen to rap.

i don't agree with you or Matty,. ice cube knows what he is talking about & has better idea then both you no name broke niggas. just because you don't agree with him does not mae him wrong & you right at alll . instead it makes ice cube right & both of you wrong . ice cube is always been some what of political rapper & that is one of main reasons he is so big of legend . so always expect something political with ice cube or you never were a true ice cube fan ever. ice cube has real argument or rational point but you are too dumb see it .

Eh some acts are political others prefer to be party oriented. Never had a problem because each act was doing it's own style, and it's not like Ice Cube was the Only hypocrite in the game. Almost every act in rap has been hypocritical one point or another for example Cypress Hill while never hypocritical when it came to the subject of weed, used to diss rappers for coming out with Fashion Lines at the same time they Debuted Joker Clothing. They even used to diss rap acts for having pop songs set up as singles for hardcore albums (Heres looking at u Biggie u fat fuck).

Shit Ice Cube stop talking about 8-Ball moment he become a sponsor for St. Ides, He even mentions in his music he did it 4 the money. Dr. Dre did a Anti-Violence PSA because of a Court Order, for beating down the bitch from Pump it Up. 2pac Preached Blacks needing to wake up, yet sold out his political ambitions moment he signed to death row and released a Generic G-Funk album. Eminem talks about hating faggots but supports gay rights. Eazy E Supported 1 officer from the Rodney King Incident.

Take the music for what it is, because when you listen to the artist in a interview, they'll either be Completely different have a different view then what they are on a record usually.

there was a quik interview in the last couple of years where he saying about how young people should join the armed forces and there are lots of good opportunities there. it's a sad state i guess, but personally a bit of a face palm. remember others saying the same thing about his comments at the time. but like you mentioned at least he's not trying to talk about that stuff in his music.

the problem with this record is the vagueness of the message. for me we're living in a time where misinformation and denial is peaking for the whole of western society. different to some of the inequality and social issues spoken on by rappers previously. big picture, entire global financial/political system level stuff, deeply embedded corruption. it's not reasonable to expect anyone to have it all figured out, but i would expect something more explicit for 'everything's corrupt' to have any meaning this late in the game. maybe suggesting people don't vote for either major party or don't vote period.

and this isn't hating on cube...the sentiment is there, but the details are lacking. without good, organised information it just leads to helplessness. the silence is deafening from the hip hop community in regards to politics in 2012. or it's off the deep end with conspiracies. this effort is better than nothing, but i can't see how it's particularly helpful. maybe he'll explain his outlook in more detail on the album. i think locksmith has a lot more relevant things to say on a record like this...

Matyy dont bother this dude is one of the biggest ingnorants on this board ;)

but yeah, we probably should avoid the dialog.  this is Dubcc, what does anybody on here know about Politics?  the best anybody can do is troll and get feelings involved instead of discuss and present evidence.  i dont expect anything more or less from this site from that group

just the one response, sorry guys

cube isn't even giving obama props on this like some people on this board. but the fact he's the 'leader' and not being explicitly critisized makes the message way too ambiguous. the most political potent message any black rapper could make in 2012 is to directly call out obama. the propaganda runs strong indeed. didn't he orginally campaign on stopping lobbying in washington or something?

and about being able to comment on the US...there's the small matter of a globalised financial system and the US$ as reserve currency. if that doesn't directly effect everyone on the planet i don't know that does. most people benefit from it, but thanks to bad management and corruption over several decades it's about to have it's day. definitely past the point of no return now.

if saying that both major US parties and the financial system is corrupt is still a conspiracy theory i don't know what to say. saying that shapeshifting extradimensional lizards are ruling the world is a conspiracy theory, see the difference? the former is a conspiracy fact. i could point to recent events like MF Global, the LIBOR scandal, but that probably wouldn't mean anything. there's always been systemic corruption, just that shit has run its path and the rule of law is openly being flouted to stop things from falling apart. these phoney elections where neither candidate talks to the real issues should be insulting to most americans. if you vote for obama and shit all goes south in the next couple of years, you know exactly who to blame. and it's not obama, or george bush.

i genuinely try not to comment on this stuff anymore cause it's futile on a lot of levels. but to see a rapper like cube go in the right direction and latch onto all the discontent while not really saying anything of subtance, is a bit frustrating.

And as far as Cube with his previous albums regarding social commentary: Death Certificate was the prophecy, The Predator was the street report AFTER the prophecy was fullfilled. The topic: race relations in America as it pertains to South Central Los Angeles.

because if a white rapper said it, people would probably use their race to rationalise an opposing opinion against obama. exactly the kind of dumb thinking you come to expect from people. if cube doesn't feel strongly about obama being a bad president, then he has his head in the clouds. time will tell as he'll almost definitely be getting a second term. we'll see if this big recovery materializes ;)

I think "if" and the big word there is if, Cube is going the direction of more political on this album, he definitely is not going to give his entire thought process on one song. Over the years that is one knock I've had on Cube because I for one believe he could be an incredible orator on social commentary in America. Underrated storyteller. As for Obama/Romney to me it's pick your poison.

All good, I seen a couple comments from others and responded. I know Cube is capable of it because I felt it in his first 3 albums and seen it first hand (riots and race wars). Being he is probably my favorite artist of all time. it's frustrating when you get some poppy BS from him lol.

yup, but the direction has to be changed first, not just buying time. obama hasn't changed the overall direction in any meaningful way at all. there's gonna be a big fall before any chance to do so now. the thing that worries me is what history shows about governments and empires when they become overstretched and the 'big fall' happens. the solutions aren't generally very productive, people will listen to anything.

i wish people would stop acting like the fate of US politics is a US only problem. the US$ is THE valuation mechanism for the entire world. the 'arab springs' were a direct result of inflation being exported. but it'll come home to roost. funny thing is where i am (UK) is in it knee deep, london is a global hub of financial fraud and our economy will crumble when finance cracks. we have ongoing money printing too...

yup this should go without saying. we're living in crazy times. i think the events of this decade will be the big ones in my generations lifetime, if we make it to the other side. most people are way behind the curve of what's going to hatch out in the next few years. the sooner the better really.

And u shoulda stopped right here instead of trying to look "nuetral".

Economist have already said that and if u actually look at it nuetrally and take EVERYTHING into account then u'd clearly understand that.  This whole notion that Obama and Romney are the same ppl and r fighting for the same cause is ridiculous and its why i half-heartedly support a litmus test in 2014 and beyond when it comes to Voting for Elected Officials.

There's a gang of reasons why we need to re-elect Obama (like the Supreme Court for 1) and there's a ton of reasons as to exactly why we shouldnt elect Romney (like his Lack of Leadership among quite a few other reasons).  Its not a matter of "pick your poison", do u want Change or more of the Same?  there's a stark contrast of what's up for grabs in this Election and there's a clear view on how much alot of ppl dont know whats going on who use Candidate Speeches and News Reporter talking points to "articulate" their "views" on Democracy.

There's ppl who would agree with what Obama has done and can clearly see that we're better off than we were 4 years ago but wont vote for him becuz he's Black.   Those kinds of ppl are up on the issues and they have proof of it but they wont vote for him becuz of who he is on the outside.

"pick your poison", No.  Pick the Change for a better direction, Yes

Ehh in the state this country is in, it will take 2-3 presidents to change this in a better direction

Those kinds of ppl are up on the issues and they have proof of it but they wont vote for him becuz of who he is on the outside.

but like i said, i dont expect this place to get it when the only time they keep up with current events and who's who is during Presidential Election Season.

Not looking neutral. I voted for Obama, twice

And so are Independents, Green Party people, The Rent Is Too Damn High people, and so and so on.  Look, we dont live in this kalidiscope world where everybody is equal and everybody is corrupt.  There's alot of people who r and theres alot of ppl who arent.

At the end of the day do u want sumbody who actually gives a fuck about "you" and has something to prove or do u want sumbody who's only concern is the status quo and his constichuants?  And that extends beyond Presidential Elections, it goes to Local Elections too (the races most ppl, literally dont care about).

Im not about looking neutral for the sake of making ppl comfortable with me, im about Facts.  its either Or for me with little in between

People are supposed to vote on FACTS and Character, not fear which is what the Republicans have been betting on what people will do.

Its easy to defend Obama when u know what he's done and what he's about.  Fuck this "im nuetral" shit, what do you KNOW and what are you ABOUT

^^ lmao @ u and that song

i know yall arent actually going to let Matty punk yall on this 1 lol smh.  he's not even from North America, let alone the US.  In fact, his only connection to North America is from this site smh.

yo Matty, how about we leave the social commentary of the United States to it's citizens.

There's so many holes in their arguements already its hard to say where to start.

just the one response, sorry guys

cube isn't even giving obama props on this like some people on this board. but the fact he's the 'leader' and not being explicitly critisized makes the message way too ambiguous. the most political potent message any black rapper could make in 2012 is to directly call out obama. the propaganda runs strong indeed. didn't he orginally campaign on stopping lobbying in washington or something?

and about being able to comment on the US...there's the small matter of a globalised financial system and the US$ as reserve currency. if that doesn't directly effect everyone on the planet i don't know that does. most people benefit from it, but thanks to bad management and corruption over several decades it's about to have it's day. definitely past the point of no return now.

if saying that both major US parties and the financial system is corrupt is still a conspiracy theory i don't know what to say. saying that shapeshifting extradimensional lizards are ruling the world is a conspiracy theory, see the difference? the former is a conspiracy fact. i could point to recent events like MF Global, the LIBOR scandal, but that probably wouldn't mean anything. there's always been systemic corruption, just that shit has run its path and the rule of law is openly being flouted to stop things from falling apart. these phoney elections where neither candidate talks to the real issues should be insulting to most americans. if you vote for obama and shit all goes south in the next couple of years, you know exactly who to blame. and it's not obama, or george bush.

i genuinely try not to comment on this stuff anymore cause it's futile on a lot of levels. but to see a rapper like cube go in the right direction and latch onto all the discontent while not really saying anything of subtance, is a bit frustrating.

rant over :pirate:

Just curious, why does it have to be a black rapper calling out Obama? If Cube does not feel that way about him then that becomes more a perference or an opinion. Lupe Fiasco "spoke" out against Obama, called him a terrorist but hey thats his opinion.

because if a white rapper said it, people would probably use their race to rationalise an opposing opinion against obama. exactly the kind of dumb thinking you come to expect from people. if cube doesn't feel strongly about obama being a bad president, then he has his head in the clouds. time will tell as he'll almost definitely be getting a second term. we'll see if this big recovery materializes ;)

I think "if" and the big word there is if, Cube is going the direction of more political on this album, he definitely is not going to give his entire thought process on one song. Over the years that is one knock I've had on Cube because I for one believe he could be an incredible orator on social commentary in America. Underrated storyteller. As for Obama/Romney to me it's pick your poison.

money, again

The Entire Political System went to shit when the system became a two party system essentially (Republican and Democrat). Yes I know their are others, but they rarely have the founding, nor the legacy as these two longingly established social parties. Hell they've even Switched grounds when it came to the racial demographic, and the whole Social aspect (Read the History and then look at it today). But the problem with the Two party system is that it's essentially a insanity test. Regardless of which party wins, they are still showcasing the same ideals under the guise of a fresh look. Some completely self-destruct under the position (Bush for example) but the reality is it really all depends on Congress. Congress Creates the laws, and is generally have greater effect on the institution that is America. Who ever controls the Majority in Congress controls the Country. Any Law the President Rejects congress can be portrayed as a incompetent leader and be impeached. But the issue with Congress is the Two Party System.

The President is more or less a lightning rod position. Taking Hits from the American Pubic, Responsibility for the failure of the other branches of government, and taking the good that comes with it. You wanna change America, You gotta change out Congress, Look at how many times Congress has shown incompetence, failure, yet these people still hold positions because their seats have no Term Limit, The President has 4 Years minimum, a maximum of 8. But a member of Congress can just get elected again and again and again, and the Media rarely concentrates on these elections so the same assholes get in because their base has no one challenging them.

And as far as Cube with his previous albums regarding social commentary: Death Certificate was the prophecy, The Predator was the street report AFTER the prophecy was fullfilled. The topic: race relations in America as it pertains to South Central Los Angeles.

small topic compared to the most important issues of today.

Never said that is wasn't. Getting the vibe from people that they forgot the other albums Cube was talking about issues when they say he never covered shit. At that time frame that was a very important issue, I lived it.

yeah i might have been too harsh, i never said he never covered shit though. i agree that death certificate and the predator were precursors and very relevant (i used the word in my previous post i think), but that relevancy came from his angle as a reporter and a primary source, not a commentator. i've always thought he was overrated as a so-called social commentator because his opinions were never that articulate to me and cube has had racist opinions in his lyrics towards koreans among others.

Very good point. And hundreds of well-meaning lobbyists help the congress-men with their decisions, for the good of the people.

Let's hope he's gonna put all the songs he's already released in the bin.
It's not too late to have some common sense, but can Ice Cube admit all that recent material is whack and not up to his standards ?
I'd rather wait another year if it means the album will be good.

It may be wishful thinking but the NWA movie might kick start a revival of the old sound. Even just for a minute

It would be great if this movie incited Cube and Dr Dre to finally make that joint album that they were supposed to do in 1994 and 2003. It's not too late yet for that project to happen.

At this point I don't want to hear Cube over those boring ass Dre beats - he working A LOT with E-A-Ski lately and I hope he would produce a majority of that CD, they got good chemistry together.
