Title: GOOD NEWS: Lil Wayne promises to retire after Tha Carter V
Post by: The_Ripper on November 23, 2012, 12:50:44 AM
Wayne’s not exactly been a slouch in recent months, knocking out the Dedication 4 mixtape and prepping his I Am Not A Human Being 2 disc (recently pushed back to February 19). Still, it looks like he might be running out of puff. Speaking to MTV, Wayne revealed plans to cease recording activities after the release of the Tha Carter V.

In Wayne’s words, “I know y’all want me around for a little bit, [but] Tha Carter V is my last album. I’ve been rapping since I was 8 years old; I’m 30 now. That’s a long time, and I like to do so many more things, and when I like to do something, I end up loving to do it real quick. And if I love to do something, I’m fully focused on it and it only – and music sometimes is not that ‘it.’”

It doesn’t, of course, take Wallander to realise that this sort of heavy promise is lightly thrown by big league hip-hop artists. That said, Wayne’s rapping seems to have been something of a chore in recent years, and he’s increasingly sounded like a man who’d rather be on a skateboard. Following his recent seizure(s), Wayne revealed he is also currently on medication. The Tha Carter series has been running since 2004, with the commercial and critical high watermark being 2008′s Tha Carter III.

he should retired after Carter I, but Thank Lord if he does it - someone needs to make sure he'll never come back tho.

I just hope the rest of this wack ass gay so-called "rappers" will follow his example and also hang up the mic forever - that includes the whole Cash Money, Maybach Music and rest if this trash.

Sounds to good to be true.  Is there any rapper that ever truly retired?

I remember Em was supposed to retire after Encore, he promised after the success of The Eminem Show that if he ever couldn't top his last effort he would hang up the mic.  Encore clearly didn't top the quality of his previous releases, and Proof had said Em planned to retire but it never happened.

He needs to get off parole and ditch sobriety because it ain't working for him. I say, put his ass in a studio with 4 pints of drank, an ounce of blue dream and like 40 hard ass Toomp beats. Then I'll be checking for Wayne again.

I Don't remember hearing shit about eminem after Encore. Hell he wasn't even on most peoples minds for the next few years. So I Figured he did retire, but IMO he should of stayed retired as much as I like Relapse, recovery was crap, they weren't anything as near impressive as his first three. Course I can't complain when an artist keeps making music because they do make songs that I Like  every once and awhile so my collection keeps growing.  8)

Em's retirement was never something official but it was clear that he had kind off lost interest with his music after "8-Mile". The creative focus wasn't much there.

Jay's retirement, I believe, had a lot to do with behind-the-scenes politics with him and Dame over Roc-A-Fella. There was definitely some major changes going on there.

The Game deal was total hype. Never once was it anything beyond some bullshit he said in an interview to grab attention. He wasn't transitioning into a different role or taking a creative hiatus, he was just doing something to create controversy. I don't feel like there was ever one moment where he believed he was going to stop making music.
