Biography
No more than three producers (Dr. Dre, RZA, and Prince Paul) can test DJ Premier's status as the most important trackmaster of the '90s, and no style is more distinctive. Aggressive and raw, a Premier track was an instantly recognizable soundclash of battling loops and heavy scratching — all of them perfectly timed — that evoked the sound of Brooklyn better than anyone. Besides helming tracks for his main concern, Gang Starr, since their 1989 debut, Premier's productions appeared on many of the East Coast's most important records: Nas' Illmatic, the Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die, Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt, Jeru the Damaja's The Sun Rises in the East, and Mos Def's Black on Both Sides.
Premier, born Chris Martin, spent time in Brooklyn and Houston while growing up, and studied computer science at Prairie View A&M outside Houston. Known as Waxmaster C, he'd already learned to play a variety of instruments and also managed a record store. After moving back to Brooklyn, around 1987-1988 he came into contact with Guru, a Boston native. Guru had already formed a group named Gang Starr two years earlier (and recorded with the 45 King), but his former partner, Mike Dee, had returned to Boston. DJ Premier and Guru signed to Wild Pitch and released a debut single ("Manifest") and album (No More Mr. Nice Guy). Gang Starr's interest in melding hip-hop with jazz informed the record, and they were invited to add to the soundtrack for Spike Lee's 1990 film Mo' Better Blues. Their subsequent work was much more mature and unified, with a pair of instant East Coast classics (1991's Step in the Arena and 1992's Daily Operation) arriving in short order.
DJ Premier had been working with other vocalists for years, and his productions for the 1990 landmark Funky Technician by Lord Finesse and DJ Mike Smooth cemented his status as one of the best producers around. He soon began recording exclusively at D&D Studios, a spot soon to become a shrine for hip-hop fans (thanks in large part to his own work). The year 1994 was a huge one for Premier, probably the best year for any rap producer ever; in addition to dropping another Gang Starr classic, Hard to Earn, his productions appeared on five-star, all-time classics by Nas (Illmatic), the Notorious B.I.G. (Ready to Die), and Jeru the Damaja (The Sun Rises in the East), as well as Big Daddy Kane and Branford Marsalis' Buckshot LeFonque project. Though his workload dropped off considerably during the late '90s, he still managed to place tracks on three of the first four Jay-Z albums, and returned in force with the new millennium, including shots with Common, D.I.T.C., D'Angelo, Jadakiss, and Snoop Dogg.

I'm finding a lot of problems with this list.
1.I haven't heard it but I'm guessing that "A Million More Questions" and "Royce is Like" are just freestyles over A Million And One Questions by Jay-Z and Nas Is Like by Nas.
2."Bring It Back" by Planet Asia is produced by Eclipse 427. It just samples Bumpy Knuckles's verse from "M.U.G." off of O.C.'s album Jewelz which is produced by DJ Premier. 3."Living It Up" by Pharoahe Moch is produced by Baby Paul of the Beatminerz. I have no idea how someone thought DJ Premier produced it.
4."Down The Line" by Nice & Smooth is produced by Nice & Smooth. The song features Guru and has scratches by DJ Premier.
5."Whirlwind Thru Citys" is produced by DJ Roach. Premier just does scratches and executive produced the single.
6."Frustrated Nigga" & "Invasion" are on the album "Wrath Of The Math" by Jeru The Damaja so there is no need to list them separately.
7."Hand It Down" is on this list twice. Once as Jay-Z and once as Memphis Bleek. I understand that it's actually Bleek who is rhyming on Jay'Z song, but it should be put one way or the other.
8."Up Against The Wall" by Group Home is on their their album so there is no need to list is separately.
9."Kaught In The Act" by Das Efx is produced by Solid Scheme. This should be listed as "Kaught In The Act (Remix)"

I'm finding a lot of problems with this list.
1.I haven't heard it but I'm guessing that "A Million More Questions" and "Royce is Like" are just freestyles over A Million And One Questions by Jay-Z and Nas Is Like by Nas.
2."Bring It Back" by Planet Asia is produced by Eclipse 427. It just samples Bumpy Knuckles's verse from "M.U.G." off of O.C.'s album Jewelz which is produced by DJ Premier. 3."Living It Up" by Pharoahe Moch is produced by Baby Paul of the Beatminerz. I have no idea how someone thought DJ Premier produced it.
4."Down The Line" by Nice & Smooth is produced by Nice & Smooth. The song features Guru and has scratches by DJ Premier.
5."Whirlwind Thru Citys" is produced by DJ Roach. Premier just does scratches and executive produced the single.
6."Frustrated Nigga" & "Invasion" are on the album "Wrath Of The Math" by Jeru The Damaja so there is no need to list them separately.

After years of waiting the collabo between DJ Premier & Slaughterhouse is finally going to happen, yay. A new story at Shady Records’ official website offers details on Slaughterhouse’s to be titled third full-length album. The group’s label site confirmed that Just Blaze will be executive producer of the album, which is currently being recorded in New York City. Just, who worked extensively with Joe Budden on the emcee’s Def Jam Records debut a decade ago, produced on Joell Ortiz’s last solo album, Free Agent, as well. It is also confirmed that J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and AraabMuzik are also involved.

I’m actually surprised of how many DJ Premier productions are on the planning, here’s a quick list made by me:
- Saigon has 3 tracks produced by DJ Premier and a featuring with Big Daddy Kane in his pocket! It will appear on “The Greatest Story Never Told Chapter 3: The Playbook” and to take Saigon’s words: “The feature I been waiting my whole life for. This is bigger than the Jay-Z feature to me personally.” Hopefully 12″ single with video! #Hyped
- Diabolic has a track produced by DJ Premier to be featured on his upcoming album “Fightin’ Words” coming next year!
- Immortel Technique has a Premo track for his upcoming album “The Middle Passage”, the only problem is, we already waiting on this since November 2010, are we going to hear it in 2014, who knows?
- Busta Rhymes!! In the beginning of 2011 Busta recorded 2 track with DJ Premier for his upcoming album on Cash Money. The one was an intro and the second one is called “Return Of The Boom Bap ’12″, they will both feature on “E.L.E.2 (Extinction Level Event 2)”. There was even a short clip leaked on the internet with Busta & Premo in the studio where you could hear the track in the background, but I can’t seem to find it again. Btw, I’ve already heard the track at one of Premo’s soundcheck, and it was HARD. An absolute banger coming in 2014!
- Macklemore and DJ Premier have contacted each other for a collabo, but it’s unknown if the track is already recorded. But Macklemore did stay in New York for quit some time… Let’s see!
- Blaq Poet and DJ Premier have contacted each other for a new track, no more details available.
- Joey Bada$$ does not only has the “Unorthodox” beat in his pockets, but there is a second track between the 2 for his official debut album “B4.Da.$$” coming in 2014!
- Dilated Peoples received a DJ Premier beat on Guru’s B Day for their upcoming album “Directors of Photography”, to be released in 2014. #Hyped
- Jadakiss contacted DJ Premier to record again for his upcoming album “Top 5, Dead Or Alive”.
- In the summer of this year DJ Premier recorded a track with Slaughterhouse for their upcoming album. This will shake the hip hop world up in 2014!
- DJ Premier has a beat ready for Masta Ace, but they didn’t record the vocals yet. Very unsure if it will happen in 2014.
- DJ Premier x Serato Limited Double Vinyl Release
- Scarface! Yeah, Scarface will have a DJ Premier beat on his upcoming album “Rooted”. Scarface told the world he’s been waiting on this beat since 1998 when they recorded “Betrayal” for Gang Starr.
- Wale did a studio session with DJ Premier in April, but the Premo track wasn’t released on the album it was supposed to be featured on. No more details available. Probably the track never got finished.
- DJ Premier will be producing the lead single “Nothin’ Alike” for Ea$y Money‘s upcoming album.
- Snowgoons confirmed this legendary remix coming in 2014! Featuring Termanology, Lil Fame, Sean P, Ruste Juxx, Justin Time & H. Stax. Papoose and Reks are added specially for this remix by DJ Premier.
- M.O.P. was talking about releasing two projects this year, one earlier 2014 with 1 Premo production on it, the second will be a collabo album with DJ Premier releasing at the end of 2014.
- And at least we have the many on hold full projects for the long run: Jakk Frost, KRS-One, Pete Rock, Teflon, NYGz, Lady of Rage, MC Eiht & Heather B…
And me? I’m just going to do a lot of parties/festivals like recent years and travel a lot, and trying to cover all these beats plus working on the DJ Premier Trackology! Pzzz

“It’s gonna come out before the Summer ends,” MC Eiht says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX at the G-Funk Fest in Santa Ana, CA. “Me and DJ Premier are finally finishing it up. We finally got all the paperwork ready and all the music together. We just did a cut with Bumpy Knuckles last night. It’s gonna be a fun project, and a lotta people thinking it’s gonna be like a total East Coast sound cause of Premier, but it’s a real diverse album as far as what’s expected from Eiht and DJ Premier. It’s gonna be a classic in that form with just some real underground Hip Hop. Premier is in Switzerland right now, but he’s got Pro Tools with him. Like I said, we did a cut with Bumpy Knuckles last night and he’s mixing it, so we gonna get [The Lady of] Rage on the record and then we got Xzibit and Maylay and we should be good.”

Original Gang Starr Foundation memeber Big Shug is coming with a new album next month since “I.M. 4-EVA” released three years ago. With three DJ Premier productions!! Snippets below.
After trailblazing around the globe numerous times with Gang Starr as a core member of the Gang Starr Foundation, Big Shug, who has appeared on Gang Starr’s classics such as 1994’s Hard To Earn “F.A.L.A.,” 1998’s Moment Of Truth “The Militia” and 2003’s Gold-certified The Ownerz “Capture” (Militia Pt.3), follows up his last street savvy endeavor, I.M. 4-EVA (2012), with his new project, Triple OGZus, which will be released on 3/17/15.
While MoSS, Reel Drama and Kidd Called Quest contribute production, staying true to the Gang Starr Foundation formula, Big Shug recreates his indelible bond with DJ Premier on the albums two singles and videos, “Off Rip,” which also features Termanology and Singapore Kane, and “I Bleed For This”. Preemo produces three tracks in total on Triple Ogzus and as Shug states, the bond the two have fostered over the years only continues to grow “Premier is my brother, and with all the technology, and changing faces, we are still the same. We are on the same page when we make songs, we still bug out. We represent the Gang Starr legacy. And we are serious about that!”
Big Shug explains “Triple OGzus represents me as a street veteran, underground icon and original gangster who is always wise to the game. I love the fans and will always represent authentic hip-hop music with my soul.”

Aaah finally!! There’s some history behind this track, back in 2k14 Premo worked with Miguel on some tracks for his new album. The song they’ve created was called “Damned”… When the next album of Miguel dropped in 2k15 we were looking for that track… But nowhere to be found, until the song appeared on the Deluxe Version of the album. Alright alright… but when I bought it… no… it wasn’t a Premier beat. Very sad, almost depressed, I thought I would never hear the song. Well people, 3 years later, it’s here! Going to be released on February 21, 2k17 under the title “2 Lovin’ U” but basically it’s just the original version of “Damned” as you will hear. Already leaked a week ago but now it can go officially.
