Title: 2pac Was Not Paranoid: Rappers Bit his Pre-Death Row Songs
Post by: MOBNigga06 on March 24, 2014, 09:34:48 AM
Been bumping a long playlist I compiled of Pac's music before he signed to Death Row, most of it being unreleased or released posthumously. I realized that Pac was not crazy or paranoid for accusing Biggie, Snoop, and DPG of biting him. The accusation seems crazy when you only look at his released songs, but that is because he scrapped the songs that were bitten.

A few observations:

Thugs Get Lonely Too - same sample as Dog Collar.
Time to Get my Drink On - same sample as Big Poppa.
Definition of a Thug Nigga - can't put my finger on it, but this seems like it was heavily bitten by Death Row rappers.
Lie 2 Kick It - same sample as Gz and Hustlaz

Pac said Biggie switched up his style from Party & Bullshit to doing songs like Pac.

Only Fear of Death - bitten HARD by Biggie and by Snoop
Pain - bitten by Biggie all over Ready 2 Die
Hellrazor - bitten on Ready 2 Die
Po Nigga Blues - bitten on Ready 2 Die (think of Everyday Struggle)

Pac and Stretch recorded a lot of songs together about that have the gloomy sound you hear on Ready 2 Die: think of Pain, Hellrazor, God Bless the Dead, It Hurtz the Most. This might explain why Pac hated Stretch so much and accused him of "infiltrating" his team and working for Bad Boy. Stretch might have been sharing this music with Biggie, who then copied its themes and sounds on his album.

Pac was paranoid and wrong about a lot of things, but he mighta been right about people biting his unreleased music from 92-94.

Biggie definitely took some of Pac's style which is common knowledge and goes without saying but the rest sounds like a stretch (no pun intended)

I'd say "I'm Getting Money" was also bitten hard by Biggie and other rappers.

Don't get mad at me for these theories...they originate with Pac himself, who obviously knew more than we do. All we can hope to do is to figure out what lied behind Pac's reasoning. Pac was a smart dude...

But the problem is all artists think they are originators and that isn't always the case. Rocking the same sample is a huge stretch to me in a lot of cases, especially with your "Definition of A Thug Nigga" example as it was produced by Warren G, who came up with The Dogg Pound, was involved with the label, and grew up with both Dre as a step brother and Snoop/Nate as friends. If you roll with certain people, your style is certainly going to be influenced by that. Pac and Biggie were close during that 1994 period so I'm not surprised by it that much.

Andre Nickatina had "The Ave" and "Lips" before Biggie had "Juicy" and "Big Poppa"

I've been saying this for a while. When the Pac bootlegs dropped in 98 the entire rap scene took chunks out of his catalog be they hooks, beats, concepts, lines, whatever. But when you look through the earlier stuff that was discarded, peep the time frame it was recorded in and see what else was dropped then you've got a match.

Hip hop is based on sampling, we know that, two peeps can independently come up with the same beat/hook etc.. but when you hear Pac drop a hot line on something unreleased that later was blow up by DPG and you've got interviews saying as much then what more proof do you need?

Let's not forget that after 96 almost everybody started rocking bald heads, tatts and bad attitudes. Even Diddly.

People constantly complain about this in the threads on Tupac, DJ Quik, Kurupt, etc., but fuck it: why should we talk about new shit if its wacker than old shit? Pac made enough dope music for it to be discussed and analyzed for decades. Let's stop the hating on people for discussing the music they want to discuss. If people want to keep talking about Tupac songs recorded two decades ago, that's probably because they're way doper than the songs being recorded today.

News Reporter:
Good Evening, I'm reporting live from Sunset Boulevard
Where many excited fans have gathered with candles
(Tupac!, Tupac!, Tupac!)

Which, raises the question, where are these threads coming from?
It's interesting how, the message in these songs
Is still relevant today
Even in his death, he's touching people with his lyrics
I can feel the energy in the air, as they count down to midnight
When the theads will officially be released
Oh, hold on, I, think they're starting to countdown now

Crowd:
5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

Old shit? Nigga it's a different century than it was when this stuff came out. How many times can the same thread be made about the same guy? About the same shit too lol.

TDE, Dom Kennedy, Nipsey, plenty of good West Coast Hip Hop.

So we're really going to compare guys who've only been around for the last 3-4 years to the likes of 2PAC?! Lol

I'm just saying if Nate Dogg gets his own section then Pac deserves his own. Atleast a 2Pac section would be active.

It's funny though because when Ice Cube's inevitable average to trash album comes out somehow this forum will ride or die for it.

No they don't, they need to find a sound that suits them.

YG's shit sounds like Hyphy leftovers but it works for him.

Cube just needs to stay the fuck away from trap beats, find something more simplistic and suitable for what message he's trying to deliver in his lyrics.
