That sounds dumb and it just sounds like a BIASED HATER (who views things in favor of only Dre Groupie) -- "Fake 2pac" -- no, he's a guy that has a whole CATALOG of hits blessed by the GREATEST Executive Producer of all time -- Suge Knight -- "Want From Me", "Takin Pictures in the Cemetary," "Gotta Luv Gangstas," "Murder Murder", "Slow Down," "My Summertime Fling", "Way Too Real," "Hotel Talk [Everything Is Everything]", "Made This Way," "Drunk Drivin In My Glasshouse," "Waiting For Jesus To Come," "Life's Good," and on and on and on -- youre a clown if you EVER say ANYTHING negative about Death Row's Great Dynasty and the Greatness like Tha Realest, Soopafly, Young Doobie, YGD The Top Dogg, Crooked I, Hutch aka Cold 187um, Daz Dillinger, and the best spitter Eastwood and all the GREAT Hitmakers!

Great read, however the irony of two clones making a song called They Wanna Be Like Us was just on another level, I always anticipated a studio demo called We Wanna Be Like Them  ;D

Top Dogg ripped that Cindafella sample much better than Snoop though.

I always thought Top Dogg was underrated.  If anything, I thought he sounded more like Silkk The Shocker than Snoop Dogg.  Kind of stinks these guys got saddled with the gimmicks.  I'm sure Suge's intention was getting sound-alikes, but I'm sure any of you would have done the same thing.  If you were a struggling artist and were offered a contract to sign with Death Row and you had to change your name to Top Dogg, I'm sure you would have done it too.  I would.  He sounded like the 92-93 snoop, but by the time he came out in 1999, he didn't sound anything like the 1999 Snoop to me.

I never really cared if they sounded like Snoop or 2Pac or not.  Some of their songs were tight.  We Don't Love Em by Top Dogg is an awesome song.  I've been a fan since the early 90's, so to me, I could easily differentiate them from 2Pac and Snoop.  No confusion from me.

I never got into the gimmicks though

Good read.  I had actually forgotten about the whole releasing Top Dogg Cindafella thing.  That was hilarious.  Also, I remember when they did that Snoop Dogg album challenge on the Death Row website, they posted the "Dead Man Walkin" album in Real Audio format, but posted his entire No Limit album in MP3, before it was even in stores. Lol. Suge was the king of low blows.  It's just a shame that he didn't put nearly that much effort into promoting the artists that were on his label at that time.  There was talent on the label then, it's just that it all seemed to take a back seat to Suge's petty grudges.

You gotta be kidding me -- they had next to ZERO promotion when they lost Interscope and then lost Priority -- When they had Interscope, Top Dogg was allover MTV with his hit "All About U" -- then when they had Priority, "Top Dogg Cindafella" was on BET and The Box -- Tha Realest did Great on "The Chronic 2000" and had "Easy To Be A Soldier" single and "Gotta Luv Gangstas" with Scarface was a nice look along with his DPG tracks -- If they had the Interscope machine, Tha Realest's career would have been completely different -- Crooked I's promotion was a "radio tour" -- it's ALL ABOUT Promotion -- And yes, that's Death Row's fault for not promoting their shit -- but to say there was no talent is a joke -- when Irv Gotti promoted Tha Row artists Crooked I got video play with Ashanti on BET -- Irv Gotti got Eastwood looks on Murder Inc too

Death Row had established artists like Kurupt and Petey Pablo -- Suge had a shitty distributor (Koch) and he never promoted shit other than his Live Interviews name-dropping and his "radio tours" -- there was no ground promotion after Priority and yet they still sold records

"All About U" was a 2Pac song and that's why it was a hit, not because of Top Dogg.

IMO he sounded like a cross between CPO and Too Short. When I listened to him, I never thought "damn, this guy sounds identical to Snoop".

Did any of them chart on Billboard? Get massive radio play? Get any radio play? Get any recognition at all outside of internet message boards?

No. He hasn't had a hit record. Ever. The part about Tha Realest is 100% accurate when you listen to his DR material and see that he's doing his best 2pac impersonation and with some songs, he might have even used pre-written 2pac lyrics.

oh lets act like dr never existed that's why c2k was a fail lol
facts top doggs only buzz he ever had was going back to cali due to people thinking it was snoop dissing biggie
at this point dr was dead no one had interest due to pac dying 3 years prior people have already moved on
Crooked I was and still is a nobody lets blame promotion all these years not
tha fakest was an embarrassment to dr and shows how low suge would go
people still don't know The Chronic 2000 even existed and would get easily confused with The Chronic 2001
also made Scarface look like a money hungry traitor
Tha Realest career  was never going anywhere suge knew what he was doing and never had plans to push tha fakest
no one gave a shit bout Kurupt and Petey Pablo
Ja Rule was washed up already by 2003 putting no name artist sure didnt help him
c2k has always been a recipe for disaster

Not counting Dre and Snoop, the facts are the only person involved with Death Row back then still making moves is Crooked I. Yes, he might not be selling a lot of records, but he constantly earns new fans, collaborates with other great artists, drops projects, keeps being featured on TONS of stuff, had a TV show, runs his COB movement which has expanded overseas and so on and so on.

Who else is eating nowadays ? Daz? Top Dogg? Tha Realist? Petey Pablo? Eastwood? Not even Kurupt is doing anything major.

I like Realest, but I have to agree, dude even got the same tattoos as Pac.  And I even think Death Row toned him down a bit, if you listen to some of the unreleased songs from the Inside Out Compilation, he's saying "thug life" and stuff like that.  I don't think he's doing that on any of his released songs.  Doesn't change the fact that he's got some good songs out there, but when comparing him to Top Dogg, I don't really think Top Dogg went out of his way to look like snoop or really imitate snoop that much.  He can't help his voice sounds similar, but he had a totally different flow than the 1999 version of snoop.

Top Dogg wasn't a "copy cat" artist other than he had "Dogg" in his name but then again so did Nate "Dogg" -- doesn't mean he was a copy cat -- and "All About U" was serviced on MTV to promote Top Dogg -- MTV hosts would even say "Here's 'All About U' featuring Top Dogg'" as Interscope was setting up to push him, then they decided to drop Tha Row before the "Cindafella" single came out, which ended up getting play on BET & The Box via Priority Records

You guys that say Tha Realest is a "copy cat" artist then why did all these acts stamp him as official by doing records with him? Daz did records with him, Outlawz did records with him, Kurupt did records with him, Scarface did records with him, Richie Rich, Yukmouth, Mac Shawn, Swoop G, etc.
